Emma doesn't say anything other than I'll explain later and that's all we get as an audience. If there was really nothing between Emma and Ethan, I would have thought she would have had a bigger reaction to defend herself.

From my understanding, at first she didn't love MC, like him but not love him, when he truly left she probably really understood what she lost, not that she now loved him (maybe yes, maybe no) but at least she recognized that her life without him lost a lot of colour (Since she restarted drinking and smoking a lot like when her first love left) I honestly don't think she ever cheated on him during their relationship, she's at least not that type of woman, and on the day he accepted to really break up i think she didn't do anything with Ethan either. For how Ethan was in her house, well it was obviously for MC to see by Ethan, i don't think she was in a relationship with him yet and was probably serious about wanting MC back in her life and being more serious with him. But it seems the return home made her understand, seeing the watch and Ethan in her house just like that when MC came, she knew she had no chance anymore. As for what happened with Ethan after that, i don't know, from her character, either she'll throw a huge fit and throw that garbage out of her life(Since she matured toward the end) or she'll completly lose herself and go out with Ethan. to make this easier to understand this story is all about one important thing a "BET". MC was used as a pawn for Emma , Ethan, and there friends little game. It at this point at the end MC realize that all there doing was to see if MC would go back like a dog to Emma (Ex-GF). MC knew at the end that thing can't go back as it used to be. From Beginning, Mid, & End they were talking about these Bet like it was all a game if MC would go back to Emma being a (simp) and etc. good thing MC learn his lesson and just quit being in a relationship w/ Emma and having to deal w/ Ethan or her group of friends.

So, he didn't want to treat them as enemy. As for faking the relationship, Emma's mother has a heart condition, and she is kind to him. He wasn't doing that for Emma but for her mother's sake. Also, he is a simp from the beginning but gave up once he knew about Ethan's returning because he knew that he won't be able to compete with him. Lastly, unlike the other stories here, this one tried to be different which is the MC has some lingering feeling for the FL and wanted to see if there is a possibility of a 2nd chance after seeing Emma's changed behavior but once he saw Ethan at Emma's house, that door shuts completely.
The mom bit was because he had no beef with her. You can hate one person but still care for people in their family. Also since she had a weak heart you know mc (or anyone decent) would hold it against themselves if ANYTHING bad happened to them.

I feel like there was a whole part of the story missing here. Ethan suddenly was the bad guy at the end and it was basically hand waved away, not to mention the friends who were making bets about stuff never showed up either. It feels like a whole conflict was just ignored.
I mean Ethan wasnt really a bad guy per say he was Just being a jerk & not wanting to lose the bet he had in going, now as for the friends Doenst really matter we knew that Emma friends makes bet on all the time on Justin coming back to Emma no matter what so them beating again isn't surprising, now the real issue here is Emma should've put things straight with Ethan if she indeed wanted to get back with Justin having him in the appartment when his the main reason of the break up isn't a smart move, assuming if she didn't know Ethan was their which would'nt matter if we think about if Ethan is inside cooking it means he has the key to the appartment regardless so that still an issue, honestly I think she lowkey might had a shot at getting back with Justin by the end if Ethan wasn't in the appartment it brought back the reason why Justin move away from Emma, so at the end if Emma had just kept Ethan away until she found away to succed on getting Justin back it wouldnt end up this bad of course assuming she wasnt on the betting as well which I don't think she was, so at the end her having a bit of feelings for Ethan and how she treated Justin ruined her chance at a possible comeback, i'm intrigue on how she handle things though did she move on from Ethan cause he was part of the problem after that lesson or she was just faking it that part is what i think is missing to have a proper conclusion to the story.

She knew when her mother was going to visit so extended the bet from 3 months to 6 to coincide it with her mothers visit. And by luck Justin managed to hurt himself which let Emma try to get him back without Ethan interfering since Ethan was the only one who bet against it. Ethan just used the chance to switch the bet on his side or maybe that was even part of bet which is why Emma couldn't say anything and only said 'will tell you later' aka after she won the bet.
