      Rhythmic motion; counting as you write.
      Like a metronome in music.

    Awesome, man! Really nice letterforms and great spacing. It's so inspiring to see you sharing business penmanship!
    Have you experimented with different variations of your hold? I wonder if you might enjoy pronating your hand inward and releasing the first digit on your index finger?
    This was four months ago. Are you still practicing? How long have you been pursuing movement writing?
    It's great to see your stuff again, my friend!

      Thank you!! I do practice almost daily, but I’m sure I make a lot of mistakes. I have the original Palmer book and Champion, but no one around in Europe to see in person.. Hopefully we can arrange bringing you here finally one day!
      I practice since a few years along with many other styles, but I have a lot of bad habits from graffiti and design concept sketching (dynamic, expressive character).. Working on it :)
      I admire your precision and quality. Best wishes from Berlin!

      Besides
      It's a bit strange to use a pen, why not use a pencil?
      it's a bit strange to use a fountain pen, why not use a pen?
      It's a bit strange to use a fine stub nib to write calligraphy, why not try a 1.9mm stub?
      It's a bit strange to use your favorite 18k nib 180° from its intended use, why not just write normally with the nib?
      It's a bit strange you use your pilot parallel exactly as intended by the manufacturer, why not use your pilot parallel exactly as intended by the manufacturer❤?

    Having just barely begun the Palmer method, I get the impression that the final result of practicing the system will enable a person to write beautifully as you do, but perhaps quite a bit faster. Any comments about this?

    • @Jose_Guzman_
      @Jose_Guzman_ 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hope this comment helps, my thoughts are that you focus on the movement of the arm pivoting on the fleshy part touching the table as stated in the palmer manuals, beautiful non the less, but I agree that business penmanship is focused on writing as a utility as much as its aesthetics

    • @Jose_Guzman_
      @Jose_Guzman_ 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the focus should be on the exercises followed by actual writing. , I don't think ill ever stop improving. Ive made a metronome playlist, titled with which letters that correspond to the beats per minute, to help with a short daily warmup before writing from a record of writings/deep insights I run across.It can seem daunting and tedious but I've picked this as a daily ritual/meditation of sorts, cheers.

      @@Jose_Guzman_ Since you practice with a metronome, do you think this writing is at the speed that Palmer tries to inculcate into practioners of his method? This is beautiful writing, no question about that! I do notice that this writer uses a technique I have seen by other people who practice caligraphy, which is speeding up and slowing down the writing for different letters, or parts of letters. I presume that is to maintain better control over the shape of the letters.

      No, Palmers method will give you a much faster speed. Although I’m mostly sure Palmer’s intention was to make writing be second nature just as much as aesthetically pleasing ,its main purpose ,I’d say, is to be a utility nonetheless. Theosone, as I think he mentions, is coming from caligraphy which uses the fingers, and in my opinion is intended to be more of an art than a tool. When I write I don’t think about how am I writing , I’m thinking about what am I writing about. I’ve been doing this for 6 years or so now and I’ve sort of crafted a 5 minute warmup using Palmer’s method which in turn I’m sure has created a division on the approach I take. When I’m warming up my mindset is, what needs improvement , when I’m doing my main writing, I’m sorting out my thoughts and getting them in line with what I’m writing. When I notice my arm, it should always be moving towards and away, in straight and circular motions, like the exercises take us to, creating an unbroken and constant motion from letter to letter . In my experience palmer’s method is more in line with a natural speed, each letter taking no more than it should based on it shape. I’ve placed in the wall in front of my desk the manual pictures of the form and some main exercises that I found myself constantly looking for. In conclusion, my take has always been to keep the technique true to its original intent and to pay more mind to the actual writing event than to the final result, its a hobby/a meditation / a way to sort out thoughts 👌

      I've started talking, so I feel I must share. Knowing what I know now, i must mention, that for the most part , the whole act of writing, especially when doing this slanted, business penmanship, is greatly affected by the fountain pen you use. I went through a few lamy safari's , almost giving up on the whole thing. the nibs are not strong enough, didn't last. I do reckon after my technique improved , I placed less pressure on the nib. Pivoting around the arm and with the pinky and ring finger taking some of the weight , keeping the pen nib light. I'm mosty pleased with the Lamy 2000 extra fine (150$) but its unreasonably priced for my budget. After two years, daily use, the nib has worn out. If money wasn't an issue, id be happy with this pen for the rest of my life. Im now experimenting with the Twsbi 580 ALR medium(70$) , and think this just might be it. It has a completely different feeling but we'll see how it goes. As far as paper goes, I just make sure the paper is thick enough, at least 80gsm, preferably 100 or more. Good luck! cheers

    is your palm planted on the paper? ive been trying to improve my handwriting, and i see many people advising to lift your palm/hand off the paper and pivot your strokes on the elbow area. But it is so difficult!
