I have found a new rabbit hole to wander around in, I tried to watch these back when they first aired, caught them when I could. I worked nights for almost all of my culinary career. Now I can watch them at my leisure, thank you for this gift. 😊
i thought i noticed an odd cut, at about seven minutes 6 or 7 seconds.. struggling to continue though, i'm finding his script a bit off putting.. trying to be funny? ..and just feels a bit sloppy to me.
@@davidevans3227 I think it's his style and remember, this is like early 1980's where humor was different. And yes the odd cut seems to be removing the church's response to all that was happening during the Reformation and Burke probably belittled the Church (I feel he is agnostic, certainly not religious) and the content provider edited out the 'embarrassing' bit. I saw this series in the 90's and was entranced by Burke (check out his original Connections series c.1978) so it is alarming to be reminded that anyone who posts original materials are now the editors and can tailor the message to suit their purposes.
They have a liturgy ,loosely based on the new testament. With a bunch of magical mystical stuff added, when you tell these stories in a big gaudy building, told by a man dressed up gaudy, with magical words and gestures, beautiful music and the only place in the area that doesn't smell like shit and purification.
Is it not their book to begin with? Surely, there were several later retranslations, but the differences are de minimis. How can one not attribute the Bible to the Catholic Church? It's their book.

ruined by censorship
What was censored?
@@CliffSedge-nu5fv In several places the sound is muted while James Burke is obviously talking.
Thanks for uploading this! Never missed the original airings. Wonderful series. Should be required watching!
Love James Burke!
Thanks for this but what possible reason could anyone have to censor it?
TH-cam copyright. Sorry.
Edited from the original cutting out religious points Burke made - very disappointing
Which points? And what additional arguments make them worthwhile?
Go away, troll.@@CliffSedge-nu5fv

The human mind is amazing...
The 1st mistake many people make is to connect the catholic church to the bible.

"So glad" that someone having difficulty keeping up with this video has also weighed in on religion in a different comment thread here.
