In all fairness I imagine it's more they are steadily learning how much they can influence the world. There's always a turning point in really good groups when players begin to actually believe in the world that they are in and start to behave according to it's rules. Nice to see.

That moment, in the intro, when he put the tiny pawn next to the giant queen and said it was the chain. I think they may face more challenges than we realize.

Just finished catching up. I think the chain needs a warmaster. Needs to be hiring new men and training them for city warfare. They need as many units of shield spearmen 3 to 1 crossbowmen also equipped with spear and shield. Shield walls across the city streets. Try to have every unit with a spell casters just for counter spell and artillery. They should purchase all surrounding shops of the sausage shop and renovate them internally will underground works so troops can move unseen in the area. Training and HQ Fake should be somewhere else not the Words territory or even the library should be another area. That 60,000 gold should be 0. The jobs pay for the army. Chain was 10,000 men and now they are under a 100. This is a problem. They should be making moves to be able to play the great game.
It is easy to point out a bunch of other cool stuff, but bravo to Phil for potentially linking a beginning of game cutscene to an NPC WAY later in the game.

It would be really cool if Ajax had his men scrying on the chain and when they do so, the Ajax mini is behind Matt. When they don’t the mini isn’t there.
Slims new bracers are a MASSIVE upgrade over the crystal even though they add less damage on average. With combat usually only lasting 2-3 rounds spending an action to activate the crystal gives less chances to catch a natural 20 and lop off heads, not to mention the extra 2 attacks more than makes up for the lower average damage.

This is a clear attempt at a powergrab, and we the chain of acheron, knights of the prince, shall not stand for it. We give the order of 12 dragons 24 hours to vacate the pellet and it's library. It's so great to see you guys back again. This is selfish but I have a suggestion if you really are going to skip a bunch of weeks in future; do a special event marathon D&D session first. Make it like 9-10 hours long, with a 15 minute break per 4 hours of gameplay and an hour lunch in the middle, then just power through at the end until you're finished whatever encounter you're fighting or event you are RP'ing. I know this is just a dream and it won't happen, but having an epic session to cap it off would make it a lot easier to wait through a month of downtime for The Chain to return! My secret hope is though that you guys will just continue to make content :)
In my opinion, individual initiatives each round of combat is more exciting, realistic and you never know who gets to react first. But I am old school AD&D DM and never liked the same ole loop of combat order. Based on what I have seen in 5th, it's doable I should think. Great show Matt & Chain. Big fan!
That fighter assessment ability is like something I used to (mostly) house rule. I was glad they got it into 5e officially. When I do it, I use adjectives like "Double," "Half-Again," or "Slightly" to give the players a decent ballpark to work with. Course, I always let ANY character do that type of assessment. Fighters would get more physical info, while a mage might pick up on "arcane energies" or some such. I've seen some DMs only give out 1 answer to cover all of it. Like, "The enemy is much more powerful than you." Way too vague BS for me. In this case, I'd probably say something along the lines of, "This once feminine figure strides with the certainty of many battles. You can feel the familiar tickle on the nape of your neck. This one wields powerful magics. The undeath is palpable. She will not be easy to fell." That's off the top of my head, then I'd let them ask a question or 2 for clarity. Like, "How many HP?" or "What's the AC?" Heck, reading that back, now, I think that'd be how I might introduce her.
These players don't need to play Diplomacy. They need to play Vampire: The Masquerade. Everything I learned about negotiation was learned from that game...and I've been doing sales for 21 years now and I've never been unemployed. Knowing how to manipulate perceptions, communication, and how to make a veiled threat is 100% the domain of VtM. It gives you a great sense of knowing when to go from negotiations to "the stab" (as Matt said).
If we're talking about the spy network as a whole I think it'd be funny to name them the "Straps" because it's another tool to hold things down like the chains their merc group is named for and Boots is the leader of the spy group so they'd be "Boot's Straps".
Wish you knew this beforehand, but you can find the campaign dairies on this channel: th-cam.com/users/mcolvillevideos The reason they are on a separate channel is a whole thing.
I know I'm late commenting but the Chain should unite the Prince's guards then push for a Republic with the looming threat of Ajax. I think they know a civil war would be a disaster with such a powerful enemy looming.

Like, "How many HP?" or "What's the AC?"
Heck, reading that back, now, I think that'd be how I might introduce her.
Judge just throwing out one of the best lines out of the show, what a conclusion
Damn, I miss this
Going next level for the intro!
Best intro yet in my personal opinion
These players don't need to play Diplomacy. They need to play Vampire: The Masquerade. Everything I learned about negotiation was learned from that game...and I've been doing sales for 21 years now and I've never been unemployed. Knowing how to manipulate perceptions, communication, and how to make a veiled threat is 100% the domain of VtM. It gives you a great sense of knowing when to go from negotiations to "the stab" (as Matt said).
Gotta say, the way Judge's first combat as Commander ended was so fittingly awesome.
I vote that they name their special ops team "the Charlies".... Like Angel's Charlies
If we're talking about the spy network as a whole I think it'd be funny to name them the "Straps" because it's another tool to hold things down like the chains their merc group is named for and Boots is the leader of the spy group so they'd be "Boot's Straps".
The special assignment crew should have been called The Plumbers, I think.
AWESOME introduction!
"I doubted not... for I have seent it! With my own tweyes..."
I hope they come back soon, even if it is through fantasy grounds.
I'm all caught up! PLEASE PLEASE do campaign diaries. It was pretty exhausting watching these videos. They're so long!
Wish you knew this beforehand, but you can find the campaign dairies on this channel:
th-cam.com/users/mcolvillevideos
The reason they are on a separate channel is a whole thing.
I know I'm late commenting but the Chain should unite the Prince's guards then push for a Republic with the looming threat of Ajax. I think they know a civil war would be a disaster with such a powerful enemy looming.
Duke Verona is totally playing Diplomacy with that map. :D
"I know me man." Matt watched the Blade Runner making of.
He's basically Dan Backslide. "A runabout, I'LL STEAL IT, NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW"
I would love to see Judge become Prince and Lead an army against Ajax. Glowy angelic human of subjugation against the devilish Prince... Seems poetic
Slim is Devastating! Great show!
Amazing content! Always learn some new, steal something for my game!
I really would love a Diplomacy game somehow either streamed or video content campaign diary style maybe?
