This is hands down one of my favourite movies of all time, I love the work of H.P.Lovecraft and Jeffrey Combs is just perfect as Herbert West, he sold me on his performance so much that he is the one I think about while reading the original work of Lovecraft; "Herbert West-Reanimator".
sure .... yeah, he never knew about it ahead of time ... yep, we "really" believe that story ... .... some things guys knew already from talking together and that was the only reason to go - because it might get you in the girl's pants later.
@@rugratz2222 He probably wasn't kidding; back when it was released in the theaters, it had a 'no rating' release, that means no X, or R. Jeffrey Combes absolutely shines in this film and collaborated with Director Stuart Gordon a lot. This film is brilliant great acting and plot, and is always considered one of my top horror movies.
I noticed both Reanimator and From Beyond, the "lead protagonist" causes the most damage in their respective films. In Reanimator the poor choices Dan Cain makes ends up destroying the lives of everyone around him. His constant refusal to take responsibility for his actions by taking the "easy alternative" ends up causing unspeakable horrors and his fiance dying. The same can be said for Dr. Katherine McMichaels' obsession with "curing" schizophrenia at the expense of others' lives and sanity.
Jeffrey Combs is a really good actor. I first saw him pop up in Star Trek, he's in a bunch of different episodes as different characters, sometimes in the same series.
Jeffrey Combs was also in a series called 4400. Used to be on Netflix. Don't know if it still is. It lasted around 4 seasons. About 12 episodes maybe per season. It's been a while since I've seen it . He looks sooo young here because he was. Remember renting the VHS video back in the day.
Its funny, everyone loves Jeffery Combs in his bad guy/mad scientist roles, and he's good in them, to be sure, but I've always also enjoyed him in his good guy roles, like Doctor Mordrid, most of the movie Faust, his Babylon 5 episode was nice, and of course, The Question on Justice League. And lets not forget his role on Enterprise, that of a full on hard-ass Andorian.
That`s a great movie, everyone always loved Re-Animator, generally.. How could you not, it`s one of those eighties gems that has so much style and a tone of originality about it, least I thought so. Kind of like Return of the Living Dead, it`s a real party horror movie! Oh he just brings the body back to life also as part of his twisted experiment to see if it still has a connection to the head, surely! (it does!)
It's interesting that all 4 flicks i recall seeing her in, we get to see her lovely breasts--Body Double (considerably more than her boobs), Reanimator, From Beyond and Castle Freak . . . .
I love Barbara Crampton. She is also in "From Beyond," which is directed by Stuart Gordon as well. The S&M scenes with her are awesome. She wears a leather garter and.... yea... Anyway, boyhood crush because of her "performance" in both movies :) If you haven't seen either of the movies, check them out. Two thumbs and one other thing up on both these '80's classic horror flicks!
Well, if it makes you feel a little better there are still some parts that I left out so if you ever do decide to check it out you'll still get some surprises. Glad you enjoyed it. Perhaps I'll through a spoilers tag in the notes from now on. Thanks for the sub!
First off, thanks for watching. Secondly, yes it is a recap as well as a review. The word review inherently brings in more views and since youtube only gives so much space to put a name on the video, I go with review. The first part of the episode I talk about the movie and make a few jokes. The last half I talk about the production and add my personal thoughts as to why I like the movie.
I love horror comedy and this is one of the best, right up there with Evil Dead. West has such a dry, sarcastic humor and Dr. Hill is like a campy version of Hannibal Lector! The gore is extreme for the time and there is a very perverse sexuality to the film, especially when Hill is holding his own head and the head is about to go down on that chick! I prefer horror films that poke fun at insanity and this certainly does! Some of the effects are very fake looking but others are disturbingly realistic. That scene where West puts the bone saw through the guys back and out through his chest, it made me cringe!
Interesting that both Jeffrey and Barbara are now known to audiences for their roles in recent weird, creepy cult hits like "Would You Rather" and "You're Next"
I used to have a bootlegged VHS tape with Return Of The Living Dead and Re-Animator on it. They are still two of my faves that came out at about the same time.
turns 35 today! Still one of my favorite horror movies from HP Lovecraft and director Stuart Gordon Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton were quite the collaborators when it came to these movies in the 80s I love how funny and gory the filmmakers go to the extremes of exploring the unknown of bringing the dead back to life and seeing its utter consequences Apparently though Lovecraft supposedly hated his original novel even though the movie is loved by critics and fans There are pacing issues but the special effects are state of the art with a wicked sense of humor involved It's amazing it works on a very low budget I'm very happy this movie became a cult classic over time
GoodBadFlicks keep them coming as much as you can. Love the amount of research you put in. You and James on Dead Meat make some of the best videos of horror movies like this
Trachenburg: You Sir, are phenomenal. I honestly enjoy viewing your movie reviews. Hollywood should just can all the other movie critics and hire you full time, profanity and all. One movie I would love to see you pick-a-part, if you have not done so already, is "Kiss Meets The Phantom Of The Park". As for that, keep up the awesome reviews.
GoodBadFlicks Yepp, same here. After 25 minutes I had gathered enough information to allow myself to cease watching. On a side note, have you seen Babadook? Would love to see a video of you diving into that!
YES! Glad this movie made the cut (pun intended). Just be careful in your search that you don't stumble upon the porn parody version (yes, I do own it. No, I haven't disgraced myself to it. Just find it a very interesting cultural artifact).
After seeing the movie I started reading Lovecraft. You are right, this is more silly while Lovecraft's stuff is atmospheric and ominous. I even have a bunch of Lovecraft inspired board games like Mansions of Madness. I do need to read more of his stuff though, I liked it a lot I just don't have as much time to read as I would like.
@chuckholcomb All of the movies on the show are movies I enjoy, so the reviews are all positive. I use the word review because it shows up more in searches. Towards the end of each video I usually go more in depth about my feelings about the movies, like what went right or wrong. I’m guessing your ADD kicked in and you didn’t make it to the end of the episode. That’s fine though, you probably would have been in trouble if your parents caught you using the computer.
GoodBadFlicks New to your channel and I love it. You're very knowledgeable and well-spoken. Your by the numbers narrative of the film along with your own thoughts/input and the "behind the scenes" tidbits at the end work seamlessly I would love to recommend the first Childs Play film. Cheers from San Diego, CA.
I watched this on Netflix, after your review. Jesus, glad I didn't watch this when I was little or I'd probably have had nightmares for years -and still disturbing as an adult I have to say. Great film!

You'll never get credit for my discoveries. Who's gonna believe a talking head? Get a job in a Side Show.
Love that line.
Very clever
Idk if it was intentional or not but Jeffrey’s delivery of that line makes Herbert sound like he’s trying to hide his nervousness with confidence
What's even funnier is that earlier above Dan's bed you see a poster for the Talking Heads documentary Stop Making Sense!

"Who's going to believe a talking head. Get a job in a side show" Classic. I need to buy this
Angerissues84 And in the second movie it turns out be was a sideshow xD
Everyone needs to watch this and the sequel, where there is a side show.

Rowan J Coleman he's always a class act
He deserves more recognition. He was wasted on Gotham.

He did an awesome job voicing Scarecrow in Batman TAS
