I had a summer job that I had to get up at 5 o’clock for. After a few days I was in bed between 8 and 9 every day, and sometimes even before 8. The quality of sleep you get when you’re actually falling asleep as the sun goes down and waking up as the sun comes up is really something else. I would sleep so well that I would sometimes wake up on my own at half past 4 and be able to watch the sunrise until I had to get ready. Right now though, quarantine has fucked my sleep schedule so hard I go to sleep at about 4 ... I gotta fix that

i know exactly how u feel. for the last 6 years ive been going to sleep between 1 and 5 am, even when i had school i struggled to sleep because of my late schedule. however i got a job this january which i have to get up at 6 am before, and very recently (only in the last week) have i been able to start sleeping at around 10pm to 12 am and its really made a difference.

Another tip from my Mental Health advisor! If you can't sleep - perhaps get up and clean, or so something mindless. It gets you out of the stressful situation that is your bed/bedroom. Rolling around and getting frustrated will only make the goal of sleep harder to achieve!

I’ve heard quite the opposite ... that trying to stay relaxed and in bed often is more beneficial because even just resting with your eyes closed takes away tiredness and you‘re more likely to fall asleep after a while than if you got up and walked around/did other stuff with the lights on

3:43 People are nicest when they are fresh and before tons of people have had a chance to piss them off.
Meeting people that are positive and vibrant personalities is also higher and an advantage of waking up early (needless to say due to going to sleep early).

You're probably the healthiest looking person I've ever seen. Also it's incredible that you can fall asleep instantly. I usually lay in bed for at least an hour or two before I can fall asleep. I also agree with your friend. The bluish light from the phones makes me wake up more. When I have a candle lit in my room at night it makes me sleepier.

So i wanted to quickly share that the reason we sometimes still feel tired after a long sleep is because we’ve woken up in the middle of the REM cycle! REM cycles last 1.5 hours so recommended sleep time is usually 7.5 hours or 9 hours exactly because you’re waking up at the end of the cycle. Any longer than that and you’re body feels sluggish. I used to have a lot of struggle with this until I learned about it and applied it!

The (free) app sleepcycle work wonders for me. It basically hears (microphones) or feels (motion sensor) if your are in a deep or light sleep phase. You can set it to a certain time window (e.g. between 7 and 7:30) and it will wake you in this time window in your lightest sleep. It really helps to feel more awake and its quite interesting to see the information like what time you went to bed, how long it took to fall asleep, if you woke up during the night etc.

I used to work in a hotel as a breakfast cook, and work would start at 5, so I would wake up at 10 to 4. That wasn't hard, but going to bed at 8 was a killer. The amount of times I went out partying and then slept for an hour and then went to work 😂. I remember when I went on a first date that was supposed to end at 10, and it streched on till 1 am...the same bus driver that took me home drove me to work a couple of hs later. So worth it, though. 2 years on and we are still together ❤️.

I still do that hour counting thing, as someone who can never get to sleep easily, wakes up multiple times and is fatigued all the time, I always try to get “enough” sleep for the fear of being so tired during the day that I can’t function. So I try to get around 8 hours but sometimes it doesn’t work and I also over sleep a lot, and I hate waking up cuz I feel horrible every morning 😔
Also currently watching this at 1am😩 and not even that tired so it’s gonna take me forever to get to sleep

A lot of people find worrying about not sleeping can stop them from falling asleep so knowing this can really help :)

    • @matyashale6768
      @matyashale6768 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

Hazeydaze22 Medovik and it’s so incredible!! As a hungarian (lived in the UK virtually my whole life though), I recommend some of these: (I apologise this became far longer than we all probably anticipated 😂)
      Meals:
      - Pierogi (or the russian word is Pel’meni) which is dumplings which can either have meat, or vegetarian alternatives being cabbage, cottage cheese, sauerkraut (kapuszta in polish)
      - Goulash (hungarian goulash creams can be found in tubes similar to tomato purée to have that authentic flavour)
      - Stroganoff usually involves sour cream, but I’m sure there’s a dairy free alternative which can be used as a creaming agent... perhaps coconut milk or something?
      - There are tonnes of recipes on making Eastern European style lentil stews
      - There’s a hungarian deep fried garlic bread (I guess you’d call it that) called Lángos, usually served with sour cream, garlic and cheese but sour cream can easily be omitted. I don’t have this a lot though because it can become unhealthy if you eat too many
      - Chicken Kiev’s with garlic and herbs inside served with boiled potato and sauerkraut is very common also
I will stop here, but there are many recipes online. A good channel, although it is an unserious one, is “Life of Boris”, and he has many videos on russian cooking and baking.
      Deserts:
      - I’ve never noticed these in the UK, but pancakes with cinnamon and brown sugar are very common in Hungary
      - Poppy seeds are more seen as a sweet ingredient in Eastern Europe, so the hungarian word for a poppy seed roll is “Mákos Bejgli”, but I’m sure there are Romanian, Polish, Czech, and russian versions too!
      - Krumplis Nudli is a hungarian potato dumpling, served with peach jam and powdered sugar. It is much sweeter than you’d expect!
      - Nuts are generally a desert thing too, so nut filling filled deserts are all really good, especially if you want a savoury option
      - I’m sure Grack has made these before, but cheese prezels, or alternatively chocolate pretzels
      Drinks:
Kubus (the carrot apple banana is the classic, it sounds grim but it’s so lovely!)
Tymbark Cactus juice (which is a mix of apple and aloe vera)
There’s a hungarian brand called Sió, and they do EVERY kind of juice you’d imagine... grapes, lemon&lime, peach, orange, apple, cherry... omg my mouth is watering!
Fusion teas like apple and mint or lavender and camomile. Polish shops do a lot of these types of teas.

I'm sooo jealous of morning people. I think people don't realise how hard it can be when you're a night owl. The whole world is set up for morning people. Sure, some people can work night shifts, but most night owls can't because there aren't as many jobs and it would mean sacrificing what you really want to do/what you're good at. And school is all early in the day. No matter how hard me and my boyfriend try we just cannot switch to being morning people. We have been 'trying to fix our sleep schedules' for over two years now and it just never works. Stick to being a morning person if it works for you!!

When I was about 11 I had this obsession with getting enough sleep! I thought I was weird! But I would come downstairs about 10 times a night to tell my parents to turn their tv down bc I could hear the WAWAWA of people talking through my floor. I was so anxious and mad, I'd cry if I wasn't asleep after Dragnet on Nick at Night was over @ 10:30pm (I'm an 80s baby, lol)....So my grandmother told me for every hour of rest, closed eyes trying to sleep, was equal to 1/2 hr of sleep 😂
But seriously this was a huge part of my childhood bc I kinda raised myself. But I can relate 1000%
But nowadays I only worry of its 2am and I'm awake still...lol

I had the most f***** sleep cycle as a student. Most of the time, I fell asleep at 3-4am, even when I had uni at 8 the next morning. During semester break, I used to go to bed at 6am, when I already heard my parents get up for work. It got so extreme, that it sometimes took me until 8 the next morning during holidays..I really suffered! All I wanted was to be able to sleep at 11pm.
I have been working full-time for over 2 years now. At the moment, I start work at 6:30am, so I get up at 5, and some days I actually go to get at 8, most of the time I fall asleep at 9:30, and I absolutely love it.
While I studied, a sleep in meant Anything between 1 and 3pm. Now, I wake up on a Saturday at 8am and cannot sleep anymore and it feels good! So much sunlight haha.
To everyone struggling: don't give up, it will get better! I even suffered from sleep paralysis and had lost all hope, but my office job saved me :)

I thought I was always going to be a night owl. I always hated getting up early for school, but it wasn’t until I started going to bed earlier for work that I actually began to enjoy starting my day earlier. It is best for your sleep/wake circadian rhythm that you wake up naturally WITHOUT an alarm. And let me tell you people, there were times that I felt totally refreshed and I woke up at 7:30am! So yeah it seems really obvious that I would feel that way after 8-10 hrs... but that’s not the point here. The point is that I used to stay up so late because I didn’t want my “free time” to end and for the next day to begin. Once I got out of that mentality and into a solid routine, it became so much easier to go to bed early. And I would absolutely recommend using a night filter on your phone and limiting the use before bed. When you stay up super late, I highly doubt that you planned to do that... it just sort of happened. But when you wake up in the morning, you feel like you can start your day and actually get things done. Moral of the story: you don’t have to stay a *permanent* night owl; just stop being too lazy to set a routine and stick to it (myself included). I also found an interesting podcast episode on the science behind circadian rhythms if anyone would like to listen to it.

I almost always go to bed at 9pm(fall asleep more at like, 10pm because TH-cam) and get up at 7am. I would get up earlier but I can't really get ready without accidentally waking my family up. I had a period in my life when I went to bed at 9/10pm and woke up at six. It was immaculate.. I loved it. Sadly, like you say, you do miss out on a lot and I was very compulsive about it. I'd get so upset if I couldn't go to bed early. It also really helped my depression since night time is when I get depressed the most. I'm currently trying to push it to 10pm and earlier.

Did you know you wake up feeling better if you sleep throughout a number of hours multiple of 1h30min? Even if you sleep a lot, if it is for instance 9h30 hours, you can wake up tired, as it is not a multiple of 1h30. 1h30 is the time your brain takes to complete a full REM sleep cycle, so if you interrupt it, you might wake up feeling tired.
Therefore, 9 hours is great, or 07h30, or 10h30.
Also, if you follow this, you have to take into account the 20min +/- you take to actually start to sleep.
    I mean, this helped me!
Loved the video! Love from Brazil

Mornings freak me out unless I've stayed up to see them. If I wake up anytime before 9, I get really creeped out because mornings have a different energy than what I'm used to. And waking up early actually worsens my depression, so my sleep schedule naturally settles at 6-7 am to 2-4 pm. I wish I could be a normal person with a healthy sleep schedule

I've done the lie-in-bed-eyes-closed thing. It's.... better than nothing but doesn't really work well. A better solution for me is to do some active relaxation instead, and making sure you're comfortable. Shower, some grooming, make sure the bed clothes are fresh and nice and the room is nice and cool, make sure you're not too hungry, and meditate. It still might not be as good as sleep, but it's better than just lying down eyes closed.

For years, I went to bed at 7:00 pm, and I got up and 3:00 am, because of my work. I was in bed before some people had even eaten dinner. In the summer, my neighbors would just be starting their BBQ and other people would be mowing the law. I fell asleep to the sound of kids playing and the smell of burgers cooking. Crazy. I don't work at that job anymore, but I still (almost) keep the same hours, just because I got so used to it. I'm usually in bed at 8:00 pm, but I read for an hour or so, and I get up at 6:30. My friends and family think I'm nuts.

Despite being a nightowl, I feel like I have an easier time waking up at between 5-8am than any other hours. Especially during this stupid ass virus, it's become almost impossible for me to wake up. I think my best sleep schedule has been when I went to sleep at either 9/10pm and waken up at 7ish for school. In middle school I used to stay up until 2am on school nights and be fine, then something happened where I started going to sleep earlier and would always conk out at midnight if I tried to stay up past 10. Then I started pulling a couple of all nighters and I'm back at the 11pm-2am range of going to sleep. I don't even know if I should start going back to that 9/10pm sleep schedule cause I'm worried that I still won't be able to get up. That's why I just stay up really late so that I can stay awake and not risk feeling this gross body and mind exhaustion when attempting to get up.

Where you are waking up and sometimes tired might be due to the sleep cycle that your body is in because you have several different types of sleep and it's better to wake up in a specific cycle though I can't remember all their names. You can get an app for your phone that monitors your sleep and will actually wake you up with an alarm around a time you set so it can wake you up at the best possible time and you'll feel less tired initially. That said I normally go to bed at 11pm and it's now 00:40 so maybe don't listen to me :D

This is a tip that has changed my life. If you can't fall asleep pick a comfortable position and DO NOT MOVE! If you have an itch, ignore it. Ignore the urge to toss and turn. What helps me is that I think "if it was comfortable for me before, it's comfortable for me now". I also like to imagine that I'm sinking into the mattress. Keep your eyes closed, muscles relaxed, and don't move an inch. Trust me.

Idk what it is, but my body is simply not able to go to sleep before 10-11pm. Just can't. I love being up early, but my body can't slow down early enough for me to do so. 3am is my limit cause I live with my family, but I could keep going through the night.
