    The term you’re looking for is “level”. The coating is self leveling and the brushstrokes go away!

    Hey man you might like this tip or not. When you go to clean out the eyes for the hooks take a piece of wire that is relatively the same size as the hole. I heat it up with a blowtorch and just push it through there and it cleans it out immediately. Thanks for the cool video

    I just recently started making lures and decided to use the alumilight just for the ease of it and I love it. I built a similar box and used the reflective insulation also installed a turner that’s removable for bigger baits that runs down the center of the box. I used 4 60w uv flood lights mounted to one switch for mine but I also have a cardboard box for a lid 😂

    Something you could try from the scale modeling world is pledge revive floor wax, sprayed through you airbrush. You can use it in place of your spray can clear coat. Gives a good smooth surface for decals and is like $6 for a big bottle. You also could try decal solution like micro sol/set. If your lure is textured the solution makes the decal basically melt into the texture perfectly. Great videos, count me as a sub.

    UV coatings are affected by florescent lighting, not much, but enough to harden it if left too long exposed. I found this out during my days as a photographer, taking photos under different lighting. You're so right to keep the resin in a dark jar. Also, I have stored some resins in the refrigerator along with my superglue.

    Harbor Freight sells a dremel tool for around $5. I've been using one for over a year now and it's still going strong. It comes with several bits. I've been using the same bit for over a year and it makes cleaning the hook eyes out very simple. I use to use a xacto knife also and the dremel is the way to go.

    I use something similar for coating 3D printed lures. The term you were searching for is “self leveling”.......I use a lure spinner and I put them on the spinner for a few minutes so it self levels without buildup and drips and the air bubbles have time to pop. Then I turn on the light to cure.

    I ended up making a uv cure bucket. I bought 32feet of 90 watt light strips. I wound them on top of each other around The Whole inside of the bucket up to the top. Works good but it gets a little warmer then I like, but it cures in about 5 minutes. Lol

    I am interested in the Alumi-UV, but I am wondering if it is glossy and clear... I've heard that it can be a matt finish and/or yellow... also the resilience of it... right now I use True Coat a two part epoxy, that does really well! The only downfall is TIME.. it takes over night to harden with a turner. I am really interested in the UV but is it the same quality of finish as the True Coat? Also you mentioned special UV lights that Alumilite has for extra fast curing.. I couldn't find them on their site, can you hook me up with a link to those?

    Quick question. I started using Aluma-UV and purchased a strip of 365NM uv lights. When I take out the lures they seem perfect and hard like a lure bought from a store. However I find that when I fish with them the UV coating and paint comes off. I dip the lures then put them in the UV box to cure for several hours and they look store bought but they just wont hold up to bass fishing for a couple of hours. Any ideas to help out? Thanks

  • @dand7052
    @dand7052 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The term you were looking for re. the brush strokes in the clear coat is 'self-leveling'. Your lighting takes so long because standard black lights are not the correct light so not as effective. The proper UV light lights emit a wave length of 365NM. Always look for this wave length, they do specify when you search for them.

    I have been using True Coat 2 part epoxy and I must say I am not impressed with the durability of the clear coat. I put one coat on, put it on a rotisserie for 12+ hours , add my logo decal and then put on a second coat. I have a lure that I have taken out and used a half dozen times and probably caught 12 Bass and a couple of Pickerel and it already has a couple of chips that go down thru the paint. How is the odor ? The True Coat does not stink up the house too much where as I‘ve heard the KBS. Is pretty toxic smelling. Like you, I don’t want customers to get lures that chip up easily.
