- This video will describe how to build your own proximity sensor using linear Hall effect sensors. This sensor will detect ferrous targets and output a digital signal that can be sent to a microcontroller for processing.
As usual, the first word you start your video with is "OK..." ... Great video
Howdy! Came across you video a week or so back and have watched it a few times. Love the simplicity of the project. My problem is I am trying to build something similiar, but need it to detect a ferous object 3 ft to 6 feet away. How would I megasize this to work.
Thanks!
That could be a challenge. Try looking into GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar)
Ultra cheap metal detector
I'm a Forth guy too. How much effort is required to get Forth running on an Arduino?

What is the smallest-size ferrous object that can be detected with this setup?
For example, could a stainless steel (ferrous) needle be detected?
No ..That would be too small to detect.
I leant something new today. Excellent.
is the more gears the more accurate the rpm measurement using the hall effect sensor?
Super useful circut thanks a lot :)
Great Content! Can this circuit also build up with an NE 5532P (or one of these OPAmps i have: LM324N, LM339N, ULN2003AN, ULN2803APG, LM358P, LM386, LM393, NE555P, UA741CN, JRC4558D, PC817). I am new in electronics so i hope this question is not too silly ;-)
Any general purpose op-amp will work. The NE-5532P will work. Build the circuit and experiment with different magnets as shown in this video:

Ok 1 challenge is how to detect stainless/steel needle? 🤔
Blood has iron, can is detect people?
I used this sensor for detecting when the motor is stopped.useful video
can u please make a inductive proximity sensor

Why an op amp instead of a comparator?
A comparator would be a better choice. They are designed to be used in open loop configuration, fast switching, and rail to rail output. I used an op amp because most people will have one available in their parts bin. If a comparator is available like a LM311 that would be a better part to use. Just remember the output is open collector.
0033mer thanks for the detailed answer. Op amps are still magical to me, but I suspected a comparator would do. What I found most difficult to understand is why a particular op amp was chosen for a given circuit, as most authors do not elaborate on the subject.
Álvaro M. Valdebenito B. Yes , I was wondering that too. That deserves a video.
can i use a3144 instead oh49e?
The circuit was designed for linear hall effect sensors. You can get the same circuit in automotive sensors. th-cam.com/video/_-_XGLkKnCs/w-d-xo.html
WHATS THE NUMBER OF HALL SENSOR
Check the schematic at 2:53
posible only 1 hall sensor?
Yes .. you can build it with one hall sensor.
