I think it is interesting on if you compare the Polo vs Golf's interior - the Polo's is far more refined for human factors and easy to use. While the Golf is just... looking to be different and ends up being hard to use.
The facelift looks amazing with the IQ.Lights but VW has gone mad with the price increases. Here, last years VW Polo highest trim used to cost ~20k. Now the highest trim with 110hp DSG costs 24k, and adding 2-3 extras like keyless entry, backup camera etc. makes it to 26k. For reference, a VW Golf starts from 20k and the Style trim DSG 130 PS is 26k. Sad, because I was excited about this facelift.
I would advise you look into the EU Commission regulation for cars that goes live as of 2022. It means that every single EU 2022 car has to increase safety in construction and hardware in 4-5 different areas. This is what is driving costs up significantly, many things that used to be extra, will now be standard.
Again, VW still hasn't fixed the laggy infotainment unit and still too much piano black plastic. It's good to see that the steering wheel controls are real buttons. Excellent video as always
I guess the piano black on Audi's don't bother u ? Btw the laggy infotainment is laggy only when u use factory gps maps, who does that when u have Apple Carplay otherwise it works perfectly quick so...

I love the look of the new mini, especially the sports variants. Saying that I think the Polo just edges it for me with the interior ect. Also fairly certain the new Polo GTI will be faster than the Cooper S

Yes I’ve just bought this polo for my first car but I do my driving lessons in a mini and it’s a beaut car to drive it has a bmw engine so they’re a lovely drive , I do prefer the look of the polo though aha more my style
I have the last 2020 GTI Polo Reef blue showroom car in the UK and I will never give it up, VW said your car will hold its value more than the next GTI that comes along :D
I have just ordered the R Line 110PS DSG version. Delivery could well be delayed until the end of the year. One of the “joys” of being British post Brexit! I enjoyed the review, by the way.
Nice review - thanks. VW Polo Tsi DSG - best small hatchback - quiet, refined, quality is top notch, performance, looks and parking easy and turning circle great, making this car a pleasure to drive. All boxes ticked. The R-Line model here in South Africa cost a "lot more" than Comfortline just for cosmetic changes - not worth it for R-Line.
Here in SA, our R-Line includes a lot more than just cosmetics, eg. ambient lighting, armrest, dual zone climate control, digital cockpit, 8" infotainment, 6 speakers, etc... Really really makes it feel like a much more grown up car

Two things we loved about the previous polos besides the spaces for tall heights were the choice of three-door body and the cup holder that was high up on the dashboard. Unfortunately, they do not exist in the new one this year either.
I'd definitely get the Polo, especially because of the interior. Ibiza has more hard plastics and nasty materials on the inside compared to the Polo. Exterior aesthetics are a tie to me, both look pretty sleek.
Having owned a Seat, my personal choice would be the Polo. The interior even on the top line Ibiza looks cheap (too much plastic) in comparison. Styling wise is a tie break for me.
I currently have the "previous" Polo, with a 1.6 TDI engine. A bit sad they are no longer providing diesels as they're MPG heroes. A lot is the same as the previous Polo. Only the steering wheel, exterior and seats are different. For the rest I would not upgrade to this actual version.

Match it was looking out dated back lights etc .. i was waiting for the face lift model to come out way way !!!! more upto date look . i have just brought the R-Line i wolud of like to have been able to have moved the angle of the digit dial panle rev counter speed .will VW Car Group make the next polo so the customer can move the angle of the iInstrument Cluster Dial & Gauge Panel .. The new face lift makes Polo Car look way more smart really upto dated : 'vorsprung durch technik'.
Tomas - just curious - is there a situation in which the driver would want to display the navi on both displays at the same time ? I think most people would only care to have it in one place at any given time. I think it is more important to have the navi on the digital cockpit directly in front, and then have other less important info on the touchscreen, like music, etc. You have mentioned this point about the navi in a few reviews, so I'm just curious to know :)
I'm sometimes a passenger in a Polo. The seats are just harsh! I'm surprised it is never mentioned, I myself drive a Peugeot 208. Would say that is a more comfortable car, not necessarily better.

Would it be a problem for me ? 2 - How intuitive / easy to use is the 208's infotainment and iCockpit ? It looks very cool, but I wonder about the ease of use. @@auralstudent2841 1. The height/visibility for a 5ft11 is decent. It is a quiet interesting position to drive. 2. The On board computer system is much better integrated in the VW. Less lag and more intuitive to use. 3. The manual in the Peugeot is nothing special unlike the VAG cars. The steering is completely numb. (Worse than the competition). Also the interior quality is somewhat questionable in some areas. I would go for the Peugeot since it drives better (it is faster), and has much better styling.
Once the 2022 GTI is released please (if possible) review the 2018 and 2022 models back to back and then give the current owners feed back if it is worth the upgrade to 152kw over the previous 147kw. Thank you.
Unfortunately with the combination of VAG group vehicles price hike and due to chip shortages I doubt we will see any Polos FL and new Fabias on the road any time soon.
Nice review congrat!!! From a Polo fan (in my family we still have a 6N and 9N3 in better condition) I don't understand why the doors panels are not updated with better accurancy, the plastics are very cheaper and without a comfor fabric remain very very ugly and uncomfortable. This facelift should be a nice occasion to solve this cheaper detail. Nevertheless the Polo remain a great product in all this variants.
@@Harrythehun no one is "forcing" VW to do anything. VW is just VWing and looking to maximize profit and minimize expense. They've been doing this for a good 20 years.
it cost a third more than the Seat ibiza fr 115hhp. Cabins are almost idently and seat looks better and have 3 driving mods. Seat is the better choice, specially the 20/21 models.
It's ridiculous that the lower-end Polo and A1 models look great but their bigger brothers (Golf and A3) look worse. A bigger version of this face-lift Polo would have made for a cracking looking Golf R-Line.
Surely by now, VW must have had sufficient feedback to know that customers prefer rotary heating/aircon controls,why do they continue to build their cars with capacitive controls?
VW Group remains its own worst enemy. The new Fabia is bigger inside and out, cheaper and looks great. Think I’d rather have one of them. No advantages to the Polo whatsoever
Volkswagen Polo is still the benchmark. Hyundai I20 is waste, because Volkswagen has strong build quality and Volkswagen users long lasting materials inside the car. Meanwhile, Hyundai car owners are in fear of long term ownership, but Volkswagen cars can last long even for 10 years, like Toyota. But Toyotas can stay up to 20 years as well. Even now also you can see 2000 model corolla on roads.
my respect for R line has gone down the drain after this car. R line = all wheel drive with a GTI setup, if you can't get that then don't market it as R line. i am just hating car brands for such marketing gimmick.

The Polo has a great interior, I really like the light bar as well. One of the best cars in its class, I'd probably still choose a MINI though.

Yeah. I have 2020 Polo 1.0tsi and Vw said engine should last at least 200 000km. Not million km motors anymore.

I heard that diesel gate and the enormous cost for new electric car platforms are forcing VW to save all the money they can on every “normal“ car.

Not underpowered at all. Very capable engine. Pulls better then older 1.6 atmospheric engine

Volkswagen Polo is still the benchmark. Hyundai I20 is waste, because Volkswagen has strong build quality and Volkswagen users long lasting materials inside the car. Meanwhile, Hyundai car owners are in fear of long term ownership, but Volkswagen cars can last long even for 10 years, like Toyota. But Toyotas can stay up to 20 years as well. Even now also you can see 2000 model corolla on roads.
my respect for R line has gone down the drain after this car. R line = all wheel drive with a GTI setup, if you can't get that then don't market it as R line. i am just hating car brands for such marketing gimmick.
2021 is better in my opinion
