@@AquascapingCube Thanks for sharing, i watch the full video set up and quite easy. How does the flow control on the big bottle work? If you close it, then CO2 will get out on the end of the flow control unit or it cause leak? And that flow control can be use to control the Co2 going to the tank at night without a risk of explosion on the bottle?
@@gguabes This flow control is more like "just in case" security solution. When you open it - the pressure will drop and entire systems will stop. I guess you can control CO2 production during the night like that, but it will waste a lot of CO2 so I don't recommend this.
And you get free alcohol to drink its a win win
What I always do: before adding the yeast, activate it by dissolving it in a small cup of lukewarm water. Then pour it in the bottle. Add baking soda to prevent drastic PH changes and prolong the life of the mixture. It's more effective and speeds up the process. Thank you for your video!
Which bottle does the baking soda go?
I add 1 mmol of NaOH
@@Orion-ih5xlfirst one
@@Orion-ih5xl second bottle is just water to purify the co2 from the first bottle.
How much baking soda, based on quantities here?

I'm a brewer and I never thought of this... Shame.
Great vid
In theory, you could use a three way valve to divert the CO2 somewhere else at night. There ate many ways you could automate the day/night cycle if you didn’t want to carbonate 24/7. I like those Globe smart wifi outlets for automating on/off cycles.
Should always hydrate your yeast before you pitch into the sugars, you will get a better result.
If you use some sort of malt or grape juice instead of just sugar water with the yeast, you can brew yourself a beer/wine while you carbonate your tank.
😂😂
I mean it would work 😂
yeah poisoning yourself, smart
@@otallono How so? You can make homemade wine by mixing grape juice, sugar and yeast and allowing the mixture to sit for 7-10 days.
Makes perfect sense.
You can use sugar gelatin instead of water and add warm water with yeast on top and it lasts way longer
this is...this.....is HELPFUL
Add Agar.
250g sugar, mixed into 500mL water. Add Agar powder. Boil and reduce it until only half left (250mL).
One bottle of it should be enough for a month.
PS: there's no need to care about bubble per second-BPS.
If you have a good reactor (can be made with PET bottle, kaldness micro, and small pump), even 1 bubble per 5s will have better result compared to diffuser, which literally only _releases_ tiny bubbles into the water, and not truly _diffusing_ the CO² through water vortex.
PS2: only use *baking yeast* , as in what you use to bake a cake. Different yeast will produce different result.
PS3: You can also a tiny bit of baking soda into the yeast mixture. Just a little, not even a half teaspoon. It helps activating the fermentation process faster
I link my home brew beer to aquarium once
Yeast isn't a fan of light, so cover that bottle is a good idea too.
Good suggestion! Thanks!
I try using 1 liter bottle ,500 ml water + 250 gr sugar + 2 gr yeast + 2 gr baking soda , for 1 - 2 weeks and 24 hours on
How big of a tank is 1 bottle for? Also how can I turn it off at night?
could you remove the diffuser at night, and let the c02 dissipate, if you don't have an air stone running to provide oxygen?
may using also for grow room (small) for plants?
Love a good diy!

Very helpful! Where can I buy those bottle cap and valve for bubbles?
Hi. You can get them on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Good-news-Aquarium-Generator-Diffuser/dp/B08DXDQVJP
What do you do at night? Doesn’t it kill fish if you leave it run? Also how to you know if your putting a lot or a little in? Wanna start using it but don’t know that much about it
From what I’ve seen you can get a CO2 top kit which comes with a valve to control flow and you can get a CO2 detector which is this glass thingy with a liquid inside that shows you if there is too much or too little or just right

Thanks :)
Anyone else here trying to make co2 so you can make fry ice?
Where is the other tube connected to
do you have it on 24/7? how do you turn it off, say at night time, without the bottle exploding from all the building pressure? thanks! God bless you!
Hello! I keep it 24h/7 and have strong water surface agitation to keep the fish safe. Switching it off over night could be to risky - exactly like you said. There are separate systems with much stronger cups and bottles in case you want to switch it off during the night.
I'm running 2 sponge filters and the bubbles come out the top near the water, I'm glad I just saw this comment @@AquascapingCube
Also, a quick and in a hurry solution:
Baking soda and vinegar.
I prefer baking soda/citric acid. Or soda and vinegar if I’m really poor.
I'm planning to use soda in my next attempt :)
Soda and vinegar works?
❤❤❤❤
Hey thanks for the video! One question, can I use bubble counter instead 2nd bottle?
Thanks. Haha very interesting idea :) But I think it's just to small. CO2 is very dry and would "absorb" the water very quickly (I think)
@@AquascapingCube thanks for the info!
How would i stop it tho im planning to do it for my future tank could anyone help me by helping me out on how i could stop it but like to keep the co2 in bottle for next day so i wouldn’t lose as much
With this setup - you can't. Pressure will get to big and it would "explode". If you need to stop it, you have to get high pressure system or cheaper option like this one: th-cam.com/video/pEvk9QjpHUE/w-d-xo.html
Can i just pour the solution in water on small doses
Could i do this for a 7.5G with decent surface agitation?
Yes, I think it should work. Just use little less yeast to make the reaction a bit slower.
Do you NEED to use fertilizer in conjunction with co2? I've read you may not get the desired effect if you use co2 without the inclusion of fertilizer. Is this true? I'd rather just use co2 without adding ferts into the mix, since i have a planted turtle tank and dont want to harm the turtle with too many chemicals.
Even with co2, plants still need nutrients to grow (Nitrogen, Potassium, etc). You might not need to fertilize as much tho, since co2 helps plants absorb nutrients more efficiently.
Im using baking soda and citric acid
how to do it with soda and acid there is no yeast?
@@AQUA-GUPIK..baking soda and acid causes a reaction creating C02 gas
@@AQUA-GUPIK.. It's a basic-acid reaction
If i already have a bubbler in the tank, could i just use that as a diffuser? I could just take the tube off the air pump and put it in the second bottle, right?
Then, i could just put the tube back in the air pump if i dont want a 24/7 CO2. Yeh?
No, it will not work. Air stones will produce very big bubbles of CO2 and you will not get very good effect :/
'How dare you'
-Swedish girl who didn't attend school
can vinegar and bakin soda work too
Not in that setup but yes it can. There is even industrial products to use baking soda plus some acid
Can we use air stone ?
No really. Bubbles would be too big and all CO2 will escape very quickly.
Wow i thought that i should add gelatin to it. Thanks for giving another method
My pleasure 😊
How many days does this mixture last?
Between 3-4 weeks.
How do you know whether you will overdose the fish?
I have strong water surface agitation to keep the fish safe. And I'm measuring the CO2 levels with drop checker. Never had any problems :)
what brand which diffuser are you using?
It is no-name cheapest diffuser from Amazon :P
wow amazing.
Thank you! Cheers!
doesn't plastic tend to leech into the water? if so would this really be a good idea?
No, this is a method proven and used for years. Besides a lot of equipment for aquariums is also made from plastic.
How many days or weeks does this much works?
Depends on yeast amount, temperature etc. But usually I can get 4-6 weeks from it.
Nice video. For how long 400 gm sugar will run ?
Thanks! It depends. In my tank 4-5 weeks, 1 bubble/sec.
I will try this DIY is it no turning off? it will last 4 5 weeks?is it safe for fishes?and how would I know sir if it is already need to reapply the yeast and sugar mixing@@AquascapingCube thanks for this video
I tried this and i cant get bubbles from the diffuser. I get one bubble from 2l bottle every 15-20 seconds and none from the diffuser. Must be doing it wrong or got the wrong diffuser
Pressure might be to low. I would try to add little more yeast, and remember not to keep it in very cold place. If this doesn't work - check the system for leaks. Both bottles should be really hard to squeeze (high pressure inside).
Check for air leaks in the bottle with soapy water or submerge it in water. Also, you need strong pressure for the larger diffusers. Nano-diffusers work more easily. I couldn't get air through my diffuser even with an air pump so I made my own with just the air tube and the tip of a chopstick shoved into the tube
@@harlinjenkins got it sorted, my mix was off big time.
You have shown that DIY CO² Working with a diffuser...does it really work at Diffuse? For experience It will never work this diffuse
Yes, it works no problem. Never had any issues with it.
how do i figure out if dis is working, or killing fish
You can and should use drop checker. You can see how it works here: th-cam.com/video/Czix6XwZzc8/w-d-xo.html
How long does this last. A few days?
It strongly depends on the ratio of ingredients and temperature. But usually between 3-6 weeks.
Is this too much or enough for a 5gal tank?
And how long does this last?
It's very good for 5gal. Depending on the amount of yeast it can last between 4-6 weeks.
Please tell me if I give this to my tank 8 hours a day how long this will last ???
this stuff will last for 2 weeks only
How often should it be changed?
When it stops working/producing CO2 bubbles. In my case it's between 5-7 weeks.
How much time it take to start , i followed your video and tried to do it , but how long i have to wait to see co2 is coming
For me it takes between 12-24h, depending on the ratio of ingredients. If your is not working you might have a leak in your system.
@@AquascapingCube 200 ml water with half spoon of yeast
@@ReshavVlogS-li5ib I always go for 1L water, 400g sugar, 10g yeast. Works every time.
Is it okay to clip to hose at Night? Because i dont want it to run 24/7
Not really, the pressure would build up and if the bottle breaks - you might get a small "yeast explosion" :P
@@AquascapingCube what if you use an aliminium water bottle tho? or metal or sum. wouldnt that be stronger?

i hjad those bio reactor running for a long time. They are cheap and easy to build, but comes with some disadvantages:
1. they dont give a constant amount of CO2 over their lifetime. Its too much in the beginning and after a few day its way too less
2. u cant shut them down over night via a magnetic valve, the pressure will grow too high. shure you could let the CO2 flow into the room, but its smelly
3. cleaning it up can be a mess
4. its not producing enough pressure to run a regular diffusor wich leads to low pressure diffusor wich cant produse the fine bubbles you would need.
5. Space. If you want to run them on a big tank you will need a very big Reactor. 5ltr minimum, if you want it to produce enough CO2.
For Nano-tanks they are fine, if they dont overdose, since it will lead to your fish simply die away over night. I would recommend them for small plant-only tanks. But from my experience i can say, that it is more useful to spend the money on a regular CO2-system
Hi. Those are some excellent comments! Agree with almost everything. I overall think that it's a good way to test what CO2 is about. Get some experience. And if it works for you - then you can invest some money into serious system. Just need to be careful to not harm any fish in the process.
@@AquascapingCube i totally agree with the testing usage. I wasnt sure about CO2, then i set up a bio reactor and the results were amazing. Plants growing insanly and looking better than ever before. With that result i bought a professional system knowing it will be worth every cent.
Is it a kind of cstr?
I know this is late, but it's a batch reactor. Kind of... No stirring, and CSTR generally have constant inflow and constant outflow. This has no inflow, only a reaction and outflow.
What kind of yeast
Just generic dried yeast (Dr. Oetker :P)
Why connect the yeast to the water bottle?
It's a filtration system. It prevents dirty "yeast-water" from accessing the tank.

Lmao carbon dioxide through fermentation, definitely a first
has been a thing in the hobby for a looooong while
It's really not.
Might as well make wines and things instead of a straight sugar wash so you get something to drink and co2 for your aquarium 🤣
Is instant yeast ok?
Yes, I always use instant :)
Sorry but worked any for 4 days

Yes, but don't over-do it. It's all about balance.

Carbon dioxide... For the plants
I tried this and ended up with HUGE worms in my bottle
Really?! I have never heard about worms in this kind of system :O Your yeast had to be contaminated or something?
@@AquascapingCube that’s what I was thinking too
you dont need yeast, just fill it with aquarium water. or just use aquarium water+crush fish food.

It is. It’s just mixed with a lot of sugar.
How long ?
You mean how long it can last? 3-5 weeks depending on how much yeast you put inside.

Yes. When you put more yeast it will use the sugar quicker. But the amount of CO2 will be bigger. It is all about balance.
Too complicated. 1-bottle method is easier to maintain and produce the same results ;)
i've had the yeast mixture sucked into the aquarium water after more than 2-3 weeks.
Fake. Not enough pressure to push the co2 gas.
Literally thousands of people use this "fake" method. Including myself...
