Quite happy with my G425 driver. No way I could justify paying and extra £300ish for a new model with a “nicer” sound. Never understood why so much attention given to the sound of a club….the scorecard certainly doesn’t care about it.
I like the g425 lst sound and the fins! I feel like a baseball slugger since it has the sound of the bat’s low metallic crack. Positioning the ball right in the middle of the fins always helped me hit the middle. I always felt it was my “weapon” of a club.
I want to try all the new drivers but I can’t get myself to get rid of the g425. It’s part of my game I don’t have to worry about anymore due to that club. I hit on or at least close to the fairway off the tee more often than not. On my misses it’s still not too bad. The sound I don’t even notice on the course and so many people have them I don’t think anyone even cares. I’m sure I’m giving up a bit of distance compared to other drivers but it’s just so solid. It’ll be in my bag for 2-3 more seasons
I bought the G425 last year and absolutely love it. I don't think in my 40 years of playing golf I've cared about the sound of a club. It's super forgiving, has the distance and looks sharp. I can't see going to the G430 when something's working... especially because of a sound thing. When i hit the 425 it's loud and i love it. Just my opinion.
Yes and yes! I have tested it and am more than likely gonna swap them out. To be fair…I wasn’t too upset by the G425 sound but the G430 does feel so much better. I did also notice the G430 was slightly better than my G425 on off centre strikes too but that could have just been to do with the data set not being large enough. 🤔🧐
Agree on the aesthetics of the clubs. Definitely prefer the g425 over g430 and same goes for irons as well. Performance and price will be main determining factors.
Michael, thank you so much for the reviews. Really like the Ping clubs. G425 Hybrids are butter. Don’t mind the sound of the G425, played for years listening to the loud Titanium drivers. I’m sure there is a difference in the sound between the two, hard to tell the difference on my phone speakers even with my earbuds in. Again Michael, great review.
When you grew up playing the Nike SQ2 driver, the 425 sounds like a finely tuned Viola! Mate, that Nike sounded like you were trying to smash the head off a marble statue with a baking tray!!
When I tested drivers last year i said not the G425, i don’t like the turbulators or the sound. The fitter persuaded me to hit it and it was the best performer. I Love it and it is a go to club for me. I won’t change to G430 because the performance is very similar. Thanks for the Review Michael.
PING™ -----> KLONK™ Kidding aside... The g425 only makes that "pop" when you hit the absolute *dead* center. Its much quieter on missed hits (trust me, I know)
I bought a G425 Max, and finally was hitting consistent today. The only issue I had, now that I'm hitting dead center at 105 head speed, is there is a lot of vibration. My left hand gets stingers only when I'm striking it perfectly.
I will probably get the 430 but I love my 425. And I like the sound also… love to see my competitors faces when they hear the sound and also when they see my drive 20 or 30 yards ahead of them in the fairway
Sound will not be an issue. Actually, I think it will intimidate my opponents when I play. Let them know you put down a hammer. Also, I know you like working in a controlled environment, but would like to see you out on the course more often with your reviews so we can see the product in the conditions of play. Just a thought. Keep up the great work!
I recently tried the G430 Max and it’s easier to hit as well as more forgiving than the G425Max. Needless to say I’m getting the G430Max as soon as it comes out.
I've only seen the 'better' golfers complain about a driver sound being too loud. For those with swing speeds under 100mph I don't think the sound of the G425 is an issue.
Agree the head on the 430 is too busy. And why the yellow color at all I don't know. Just all black and white would have been amazing and get rid of the paint on the top completely.
No a fan of the looks but I've tried loads drivers and because I'm low spin the g430 ended up being my best performing option. Spin consistency was really good for me. Went from 250 carry and 1600 rpm back spin average and 13 launch to 274carry 15 launch and just shy 2000 rpm spin. Ball Speep matched my stealth which has been the fastest option for me @160 average
I game a G410 Plus. It is loud but on the course I don't notice it. Previously I gamed the G30 LST. Same thing. You don't hit that many drives in a round of golf for the sound to be a factor. Ping once said they were not fans of moveable weights on a driver before adding one to theirs. It would not surprise me if they added carbon in a year or two.
I bought the G 425 Max at the discount. I could care less about the sound. A great pick up for under 400 bucks. Some of the reviews I have been seeing also show a hair more distance for the G 430 but the G 425 Max trumps it with better dispersion.
I’ve never understood sound or looks to be a consideration when buying clubs. I would think the only thing that should matter is performance. Nice looking club is fine. That’s cool. The sound? Who cares? In fact, I like the sound of the G425.
I've tried them both, couldn't get on with the 430, too many shots going to the right and it felt unstable. The 425 however is a joy to use, very stable, very predictable and I couldn't care less how any club sounds as long as it performs. I couldn't believe you made such an issue of the sound.
I ordered one of these. First new driver since the razr fit. Should be here in a couple weeks. 430 with xs shaft. Doesn't make my best shot any better but it sure limits the damage on the bad ones.
Looks like Cobra Radspeed. My 2021 Cobra Speedzone will last me a long time. Last driver I bought before the Cobra was a 2005 Mizuno TZoid . I still use it also
Michael, completely unrelated club but please review the new 2023 cobra king tec utility iron. The 2 iron would be especially interesting. Cheers 👍💯💯🙏💪💪
I had some hot melt put into my 425 lst to improve sound, I also think the LST with the 440cc was probably not as offensive as the 460 max. Ping do a good job, and I'm glad they've gone back to the noise of something closer to the G400 LST, which IMO, is best driver of all time. I would easily trade my 425 lst for a 430, but I never sell my 10 degree LST :) its my baby.
Have G425. One thing that annoys me slightly is back weight catches and holds grass on practice swing due to weights slight Y shape. I find grass off putting for my shot as it sticks out of back weight and have to remove it before my shot. Looks like G430 back weight has been redesigned to be straighter which should not catch grass. Small issue but one that I personally found annoying but have not heard anyone else pick up on this issue
They are pretty much dead straight. Many of the reviews looking back on bring that out. As a matter of fact I have seen a number of reviews that favor the G 425 Max in that realm.

Are you serious? A club that is used say, 12-14 times in a round and which would still cost you a couple of hundred pounds to replace by part-exchange just because of the sound?
@@MrGreenEstateAgents hot melt. It's a glue that comes out of a gun. Every tour pro has their drivers hot melted for sound and head weight as they use 60-70 gram shafts and most oem heads are made for 50g shafts. That's why pros driver have that muted thump to them.
I had the G410 LST, and traded it in for the G425 LST, and the G425 sounded like a gun going off. I bloody hated it. Could not get used to that sound and even harmed my game. I thought I was in a minority I tried the 425 and on numbers should have brought it but the sound was awful and wasn’t that keen on the turbulators. Went with a mavrik which I have no regrets buying best driver I’ve had regards forgiveness and accuracy.
Play the 425 max. Compared to some drivers of old I played eg Cleveland Hibore I don't find the sound that bad! Glad to see performance similar I will wait for the next one . The forgiveness of both is just so good.
I tried the 425 and didn’t buy, but I will be buying the 430 if it performs as well as the previous model. How about doing a head to head with the cobra?
I'm a ping driver nut, had the 400, 425 and recently purchased the 430 as the sound of the 425 was disgusting! i was super happy with my 400 so went back to that after 1 round with the 425. the 430 has now made its way into the bag with some great improvements on the forgiveness with the move-ability of the tungsten weights. The 425 was no different in performance, maybe even better but i couldn't get over the weird sound it made and the confidence over the ball was enough to make me remove it from the bag. just my opinion.
The sound of the G430 is so much better. It’s an expensive club though but all the top manufacturers are the same….. costs keep going up and not all club golfers can afford to keep up…. ⛳️👍🏻
Had the 410LST which I loved but then it cracked, fair play to ping they replaced it with the 425 but like others I just don't like the sound, booked in for a fitting for the g430 at ping at the end of Feb.
On these reviews, I can't tell the sound distance through my computer speakers. I wish reviewers would measure the sound (decibel meter?) to highlight the differences.
I have the 425 however considering a shaft fit as it was the first club I’ve brought and I’ve improved a lot since taking up golf. Would you think a shaft can help with curvature? I’d like to try the LST head…
Yah I went up to stiff flex and hit it much straighter. 70g helped me learn to swing. With better form I then dropped to 60g then 55g each time getting more speed.
As much as people love the performance of the 425 but hate the sound, I’m surprised some golf shop hasn’t come up with some type of sound deadening product you can put in or on it.
For me yes , it's too whippy shaft. It does not go as far as mavrik , I do not like these waves on head . My best setting is weight centre at back and plus 1/2 , moving my back foot back as if a draw stance .
Ehhh not worth the "upgrade" from a G425 for almost $600 with the stock shaft. Also, on the course the G425 sound is not nearly as loud. Honestly I don't even notice it. I am possibly interested in the G430 LST head though. Are the G430 heads compatible with the G425 shafts?
425 lst sweet as honey…sound doesn’t bother me at all. Could they market something louder and then come up with something less loud for marketing ‘selling’ purposes?
G425 great club and the selling point to upgrade to a G430 the sound, mmm let’s part with nearly £500 because of the sound, I don’t think so. G425 great Club hopefully I’ll be using it for 10 years.
I had both the g425 and now the g430. I was bombing the g425 until the face cracked. They then sent me a g430. I don’t hit the g430 as far, I don’t know why. I swing about 103mph. I should be hitting the 430 farther.
I'd game a driver that played the Spice Girls if it went 250 down the middle every time. Can't imagine why anyone would care about sound unless they're hitting 100 balls on the range.
Michael do you really believe all that stuff about the yearly dose of new drivers .Every year manufacturer's launch the all singing all dancing golf clubs.Better this, better that club. At the end of the day, they can't make the clubs any bigger or better. They move the weights around every year to different positions, give them a fresh coat of paint and a fancy name or number and charge an arm and a leg to buy them. I bought into all this hype for years, but I guess as I get older I get wiser also. I wonder what wonders will next year's clubs bring us,when do you think we will be able to dial in our shots and let the clubs play themselves.. My comment is in no way aimed at you,but the club manufacturers who try to con us into buying new gear every year.
I don't even have to watch this video. I bet he's 3 yards further on average. Going by the last 4 generations of his driver videos. Let me know if I'm close...
Honestly, who cares about the sound of a driver? It sounds like a driver hitting a golf ball. If it goes straight and long why does that matter? Never understood that, nor do I understand why it matters "how it looks" when you put it behind the ball.
If you are giving a review it’s best to stay neutral. Beginning the video with how do you improve on perfection, doesn’t sound very neutral. Beyond that, the sound of the 430 is atrocious. There’s a bunch of seniors that play golf. I’m afraid with the crack of that thing there’ll be multiple heart attacks. Ugggghh
I'm really happy that Ping came out with the G430 because I just ordered a G425 for under $400!
I plan on doing the same thing.
Me too
just got one for 250! loved the 430 but the worker directed me to the 425

@@MichaelNewtonGolf thank you very much for reply! Always enjoy the reviews 🍻
G425 is an excellent club 👍
I had both the g425 and now the g430. I was bombing the g425 until the face cracked. They then sent me a g430. I don’t hit the g430 as far, I don’t know why. I swing about 103mph. I should be hitting the 430 farther.
The music in your video was the loudest issue I had
I'd game a driver that played the Spice Girls if it went 250 down the middle every time. Can't imagine why anyone would care about sound unless they're hitting 100 balls on the range.
Why sound is an issue, can someone explain it to me ? Its just a sound, its not an issue IMHO
It still blows my mind that some golfers worry about sound. I love golf but im not a golf snob sissy. "Oh its too loud" gimme a break.
My comment is in no way aimed at you,but the club manufacturers who try to con us into buying new gear every year.
why do you swing 109 mph with the ping and 115 with the other drivers
I don't get 115 anymore, more around 111-113 but ping heads are slightly heavier
Aren't you getting 6 yards more with tye 430?
Cool intro music
Hi Michael. Surprised no test with Callaway Paradym. When will that happen? Always enjoy your reviews.
Good video. Sound not a real issue.
i play 425. Couldn't care less about the sound . No apparent performance advantage to g430 unless you need more spin.
hate those turbolaters
May it has something to do with new equipment over $600 plus taxes in Canada turn us off eh?
when you dislike the sound of a driver. hit a callaway ft any version.
7:21 lol
Couldn’t give a monkeys about the sounds, aslong as it flys and hits the fairway
I don't even have to watch this video. I bet he's 3 yards further on average. Going by the last 4 generations of his driver videos. Let me know if I'm close...
Those turbulators🤢 was hoping they got rid of those ugly things.
Is the sound of a driver a game changer? Really?🤷♂️
Is for many
Honestly, who cares about the sound of a driver? It sounds like a driver hitting a golf ball. If it goes straight and long why does that matter? Never understood that, nor do I understand why it matters "how it looks" when you put it behind the ball.
Ping make forgiving clubs, but personally I find their clubheads too heavy and they never win out on ball speed.
Yeah that's actually what I like about ping , the club head feels heavier so I feel like I can find the middle of the ball easier
Ugggghh
