Thanks Doc, interesting video especially the Warrior. Missed you at the Hamvention but I talked to your better half. I would have liked to talked to you about the Tram D201.
@@tramdr Unfortunately no. Wheel cylinder on the truck froze on the way back yesterday and I drove 20 miles with the drivers side break on and my wife has the other truck.
That amplifier is a beast, looking forward for more news on that one. Almost time to hook up your wagon to the horses and head to the HAM-Nation. Safe travels.
In the mid-70's, I had a Phantom and a Warrior at different times. I had the Warrior first. It was a power-monster, and WHEN IT WAS WORKING, it was the badest nastiest and most awesome flame thrower out there. I say "when it was working" because it had a habit of eating finals. I drove it with only about 3 watts because any more than that and it was quite dirty, and made a nasty mess of adjacent channels. Then, out of no where, a final would flash and the fuse would blow. Happened way more often than it should have. I must have replaced finals 5 or 6 times in the year or so that I had it. I sold it, and bought a Phantom. It was the best thing I ever did. Unlike the Warrior, the Phantom was clean, stable and the tubes lasted forever. In my opinion, the Warrior was simply pushing the finals too hard. Do the math... six 6LF6 finals for 500w, or eight 6LF6 finals for 1000w. The math simply doesn't work. I heard rumor that in later years, D&A built a Warrior with 8950's as finals, and maybe that was a better design, I don't know. I never had one of those.
No. I only post stuff here. I only do this as a hobby and to promote the hobby. I don't do repairs and except for some horsetrading sometimes, I'm not really into buying or selling either. I have a 9-5 and I am old and tired.
@tramdr 10 4. I unfortunately don't have anyone reliable or trustworthy near me or within several hours drive. I wish I could find someone truthful, with reliable amps for sale. Becoming harder and harder to find anything these days. Much respect for sharing and continuing to promote this hobby. 👏 have a great day sir.

I was reading your description and of course the Hams think they are above us CBers. 73s Doc
👋🏻🐿 I’ve been a CBer since 1968. I was 12. I enjoy radios and enjoy everything about them. Take care 🐿👋🏻
Yes they do. Been a CB'er since around 1971 when I was 10.

All good except getting ripped off on a Swan Mark I amp.

Yep, saw your after action report. If he is an amateur radio guy, others should be warned before doing any business with him.
One of these days when inflation mellows out I would love to get a Phantom 500. Thank you for the video. @133 OperatorKen.
Sweep tubes are getting harder and harder to find, hence I think the price is going to keep going up.
@@tramdr guess I better get what I want now. Thank you Doc.

Are you gonna fix and get the warrior working if so i cant wait to see the output of it.
Thats the plan. I expect around 1kw out of it.
Do you have a website?

Keep an eye out. I sell from time to time. My rafters are often overflowing and I sell sometimes to make room for more.
@@tramdr I will. I just want something small. Below 1500w 😃
Having hand built a GS35B 1kw + PA for 6m im really struggling to see past LDMOS. Its the way of the future for large scale RF.
I think for medium, but for large amps like 2kw plus, I think it has a way to go.

IMHO the more you get past 2kw, the power supply alone becomes more and more problematic.
@@tramdr server supplies.. plug and play..
I own a phantom 12 tube 3 stage . D&A should have beefed up the chassis. Really not sturdy enough for 3 transformers.🤕
Well then how about the Warrior power supply, same chassis with 4 transformers?
@@tramdr I thought that the Warrior used a separate unit for the transformers.?
It does, but the separate unit is the same case as the Phantom is, so basically 4 transformers (more weight) in the same cabinet as a Phantom.

I really don't think I would change anything on the Warrior since it is so rare ! 👍
I think you are right, already have a couple people interested in it when I get it going.
