I'm medically retired from the Navy and have a decent passive income (about $4k a month). I've only recently regained my ability to do hard, manual labor and have wanted to homestead during my 10+ year recovery. I feel as though I'm in a better place than most to try. I grew up in a farming community raising all sorts of animals and helping neighbors with their harvest. Your videos have given me a lot of confidence that this is possible for me. The initial steps seem to be the most daunting, but I'll be ordering some of your books and seeing where hard work will get me. Thanks for putting all the effort into making things easier for those in my position.
I read your comment and I just wanted to say I am happy for your recovery and I will keep you in my prayers for good health and great success in your decision. I am disabled and just can't physically do a lot each day but you are giving people hope.
Yes, a real and viable income is ALWAYS the problem that has kept me from making this a reality as an almost 60-year-old female.! Still, you provide great insight. Thank you for sharing.
If there’s a will there’s a way. It may not come over night & you may have to work hard & sacrifice some things, but persever, never give up John, you give so much encouragement & knowledge to all of us… even if we can’t do it we can live thru you ‼️👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Just want to say that I've been following your channel for a while and haven't commented yet, but it's one of my favorite sources of homesteading/off-grid inspiration. I'm going a really gradual route to going off-grid myself, and it feels like an impossible idea sometimes. But it's hugely helpful to see someone else doing it solo, since that seems hard to find examples of, and it just gives me back the confidence that it is possible. So thank you! (And your greenhouse is looking great with the plants growing in! I've dug a lot of holes by hand, so I know how much work that is, but it's usually been in a team, so I'm still impressed with that whole build.)
I always thought I’d find “my people” and start an off grid community together. Unfortunately, that’s unrealistic and hasn’t happened. I’m practicing homesteading from my apartment and preparing to live without utilities right here. It’s hard and it helps to watch videos like this to encourage me. Thanks man!
The kind of off grid living that I want is to be COMPLETELY independent without EVER needing to rely on currency for anything. How can I do this? I need to know because I'm sick and I am tired of living in an economy. I want to do everything myself. Build my own shelter, grow my own food, get my own water, everything without needing to pay for nothing.
Love your no-nonsense, honest advice on getting by with little money. Its a breath of fresh air to hear people talking about how to live with less, and what we really "need" these days.
You forgot to mention off-grid near a lake, river, large stream, pond, or whatever near water. One could obtain a fishing license wherever they wish and catch a limit of fish often enough to fill a freezer with fish meat. You have great content and you deserve a much larger following. Thanks bro.
Or you can do what I did 😊 I stopped accounting put my furniture in storage and became a trucker, lived in that truck for 8 months saved every dime, paid cash for my land, then saved and got my home moved onto my property , home, 2 car garage, 10x28 leanto for meat chicks, chicken coup and 10x20 run then got a man cave for hubby and a sheshed for me, paid off everything within 16 years once all paid off I stopped traveling all Lower 48 to enjoy my home . I am not off grid so if you chose to get a shed conversion and work on it as you come home you would be debt free sooner than I did, I just added 150.00 more each month and yeah took me 16 years but had I not been handing $ over to grown kids and not been blowing and going on the $ I was making I would have been debt free in 3 years not 16. It’s all on what you choose and want to do.
you mentioned happiness.... I think you should spend more time chatting about the mental benefits of your lifestyle.... no boss, no clocking in, no worrying about sick days or getting a day off work... the relaxed life has to be abundant with piece of mind that most of do not experience on a daily basis...
only thing free (zero money) would be to hike into a remote corner of the world and start from scratch like in the Amazon, Congo, Siberia, Canadas Boreal Forest. If you do so in city limits even in most rural areas you will be subject to zoning laws and most of the land is privately owned so you would be squatting.

10 years or $20k until I have my land paid off. So far away but at least I'm started and have a plan didn't have a plan a year ago. Can't trust my wife to help me retire there told her me getting a job wouldn't change anything and it didn't. We were broke before when I made $18 an hour, we were broke when she brought in 48k a year on her own the 2 years I was unemployed and now that I make $30k a year to add to that we are still broke and have saved $100 in over 8 weeks and have made 0 progress on any debt so I just gotta leave.

I'm happy to hear you're recovered, and I think you're in a good position to make it happen.

You impress me so much! And u are teaching me a lot as well! Im taking notes bc i want to do it so bad!!! Thank u for giving this old girl hope!!❤
You can do it! May as well try to do what you're passionate about.
Needed this gentle reminder today to not give up and stay steady towards my goals. You're nailing it.
When you're passionate about something, it's way better to fail then to never know what could have been.
@@FrugalOffGrid I love that so much
My uncle staked a mining claim for $65.00 and paid a assay fee of $75.00.

Hello are you in N/e Arizona?
Hi y'all
Do you have any kind of property insurance?
only thing free (zero money) would be to hike into a remote corner of the world and start from scratch like in the Amazon, Congo, Siberia, Canadas Boreal Forest. If you do so in city limits even in most rural areas you will be subject to zoning laws and most of the land is privately owned so you would be squatting.

He has a root cellar. But there is very little chance of a tornado in Arizona
Chat GPT can do your editing just pop it in there and ask it to correct grammer
♥
What county, are you in?
It's insane to me that you can't camp on your own land lol
... you can
@FrugalOffGrid without having to move around I guess is what I meant. Or can you? Anywhere I've looked specifically states "no camping" and rvs and trailers need permits.
@@guerajj77thats only if you dont have a septic installed in most cases
Camping in a tent isn’t homesteading lmao
No? but it is going off grid with no money isn't it? LMAO
Can you legally start building without a septic installed ?
