The old Seagate at around the two minute mark sounded great spinning up and slowing down and accessing data would have been nice to hear. The old HDDs were much more noisy for sure.
Hey, I had one of those Quantum Bigfoot disks in use on my very first pc about 7 years ago. I think its capacity was 2GB. It sounded exactly the same as yours. :)
Have a 250GB one that has bad MBR / Sector 0 / track 0. Does get recognized, but has bad sectors out of nowhere and it slower then these mfm hard drives lol.
I've been dying to know for a while, what is with the noises that some of these hard drives make when performing seek tests? I noticed the Seagate ST-251 has that weird beeping noise, and I have a Maxtor 7120AT that makes a high-pitched beeping noise when performing seek tests, and I've been really curious to what those sounds are.
I have a Seagate ST-4038 full height drive. I have tried low level formatting it, but get a Invalid Media or Track 0 Bad - Disk Unusable error. Anyway to fix this? I read this has a lift lock park feature and wonder if that is engaged? How do you disengage in case that is the problem?
Why so many peopple do this? Remember this: if you open a hard drive you get more bad sectors, less relability, and of course... more peopple in the comments telling you should never done this.
I love the sound of the Bigfoot. My first Compaq computer had one. I wish I hadn't mindlessly disassembled it. such an amazing sound.

I take old trash picked drives (the ones with a clean inside and out) fix them and make custom exterior drives.
