Thanks for the shout, man! Couldn't agree more, the negativity/toxicity in the guitar world surrounding this release has been beyond obnoxious. We got a new amp from a legendary designer, nothing but positive in my eyes.
Damn, fluff mentioned you in the last rate or roast my rig and now you’re here, crazy how you got so popular so fast,I think it’s the positive attitude and being one of the,if not the only metal channel with metal demos in E tuning
The settings you used are exactly how I set up mine and I love the tone! You were spot on about actives going through it, the guitar I have with the bare knuckle pickup in it has a lot more punch
@@tommilitello198 It's the big E, baby
@@jeffe236 Nice! It's a dope amp! Glad you're digging it!
Bro your review of the iconic was great! I'd definitely buy it in the future
I've kinda hit the limit with the negative talk about this amp. I went and tried it out. I tried it how I would use it, I liked it. This amp is on my will be buying list. I like it!
That's exactly the way I do it. I try the gear out with the way I'd use it and then form my own conclusion. If I like it I buy it, if not onto the next thing.
Exactly. Bunch of gear Nancies out there
Over the past week and 1/2 I watched all kinds of videos of people just hating on this amp to the point of it becoming click bait. You're not alone in feeling bummed out about the community response. People were releasing negative videos on the amp before it was even out.
You can't make any changes to a model name so many fanboy over without negativity. I won't be getting one, as I far prefer vox and orange, but I have nothing bad to say.... They have their purpose. Some will have use for them and some won't. People cry too much, like the other 5150 models won't still be available.
@@GearGasms Yup. LOL
Someone send this man an Iconic! I’d love to hear what he does with it!
I’ve already bought one 🙌
@@xanderraymondcharles Ray I can't wait to get mine....because you are right I like the amp and and I don't have time for negativity ya know?
Yes sir!
@@xanderraymondcharles Did you really bud? Awe you lucky.......is it really hot on both channels like Ola Englund demo'd? Congrats Ray man dude that is awesome you deserve the amp that Eddie tried to put into the hands of working men it's kind of a 'right of passage' to own the amplifier in my opinion Eddie is gone it's unreal to believe that is real but, nevertheless this is his Iconic and Ray I'm sure the absolute "burn it down chugging" you are doing with it is just that as well Iconic! I'm soooooo jealous right now 🤟🍾🥂 Happy New Year Ray you are a cool dude man thanks brother for everything Ray Thank You.
I have mastery of a unique skill - I can make a very expensive piece of gear sound like a very cheap piece of gear.
Yeah I have that same skill, cool!
😂😂😂😂
We should form a band ! Lol. I have the same problem!☠️☠️☠️🖖🏻
The Marshall Valvestate was the same way when they came out. When I was 15 I was able to get a complete half stack for 1000 bucks. Everyone I knew at the time turned their nose up about it. But I was in high school and only worked part time so this actually let me play with drummers and have a decent tone. At the end of the day the gear channels, Facebook groups, and forums have amplified guys voices who aren't active musicians and their claim to fame is they made a few videos and they have a ton of amps of varying degrees of quality. Some of the guys I've looked up to are still using the same shit they used 20 years ago. If the iconic gets people playing out then in my opinion it's a success. Gear only gets you so far.
And now everyone says it's a great bedroom or club amp...people are weird.
I still have a Marshall VS8100 head... and after playing tons of different stuff, it is still my main amp.
@@MarcusW87 I wish I would have kept it and the guitar I had at the time. I also really liked the smaller packaged 412 that came with them at the time.
@@clintn6677 I run it through a regular 1960a (JCM800) with V30's, it really makes the amp come alive. It's in the shop now for new capacitors, can't wait to get it back despite the fact that I have a Brunetti XL-R EVO II on loan for the time being. The tone I'm getting from the Valvestate sounds like this:
th-cam.com/video/dBrF-o07Bgs/w-d-xo.html
The Marshall Valvestate was def ass.
Exactly, different tools for different applications. Something that sounds like doo doo in one application may be perfect for another. Really it’s how it’s mixed. Keep Rockin dude!🤘🏼
Hey thanks so much buddy! Yeah it’s just a tool it’s up to artist to create
I think there was a lot of listening with our eyes, and hearing things that we 'expected' because of the hybrid preamp. What it boils down to, I think, and I'm not saying this as a direct shot at anyone, is we guitar players are full of shit. We convince ourselves we hear things that we don't, I guess in order to appear informed. Or maybe it's all just based on preconceptions and what we've heard in the past. In Fluff's video, honestly, the Iconic sounded the best! Then you get to the comments and people are saying "well there's a high end thing, around 4k where it's fizzy" And I'm like "...I just hear a great sounding amp" People get way too wrapped around the axel when it comes to gear. We just need to play the goddamn guitar at the end of the day!
@@NobotyBoi You see something, you think it's going to sound a certain way, your mind tells you it sounds the way you think it should. If that makes any sense at all.
100% dude. Honestly Fluff and Ola could get a good chug out of a toaster!! I swear they are tone masters!! Ola did a Will it Chug video on the Iconic combo amp. It sounded absolutely brutal!! I almost ordered it🤣
buy an amp, get a 31 band equalizer, filter anything u hate, play
@imperium7
Great points !!!
All "tone stack" stuff aside, the gain structure sounds just like the rest of them. You buy any flavor of 5150 it's gonna sound like a 5150. Just like the Rectos.
Congrats on 50K subs man!
Hey thank you so much!
Your “chug “ comment is so right, are we just chugging …I love the iconic very much having so much fun…I have the 100 stealth to hearing them next to each other .,there’s differences but not extreme …good work man as always
Well said bro. Congrats on 50k!🔥🔥
Hey thanks so much!
Great video -- I appreciate your positivity. I played one today at Guitar Center and I listed my TopHat so I can pick one up. The head and 4x12 set up was pretty killer sounding. It reminded me of my 1994 Peavey 5150.
Ray - love your level headed, positive views in a sea of negativity! Stay Metal!
I also have a evh iconic combo headed my way, was told October then December etc. It's going to be February at the latest..haven't played it or heard it but it's my money and my opinion so l appreciate your positivity on everything you posted..have a great day and a happy new year as well!
Guitar players are such nerds, we are mad over amps. This is why I use modelers and semi hollows to play metal.
That one specific TH-camr thrives on negativity. I’ve had issues with him on other social media platforms as well. Put it this way: why do we care about the opinions of a guy that can barely play guitar despite having tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment?
I’m stoked on this amp, I’m stoked on playing guitar, I’m stoked on the people that just want to celebrate all of these conduits that get the creative juices flowing. It’s all about self expression! Thanks Ray 🙏🏼.
He bashes the iconic without playing it. Does it for clicks probably. Bashed the badlander too. 😆
@@0megalul309 yeah he just thrives on being an anti-hype man and people eat it up.
Young man...
Thank you for being honest and keeping it real..
I've been on this planet for almost 53 years now.. Yeah.. I'm old as dirt..
I've been listening to music, and playing my guitars since the late 70's...
I was blessed that my job allowed me to travel around the world, and as an added bonus,
I had the opportunity to jam with musicians, and experience the music scene in pubs and stadiums across the globe..
You made an excellent point in your video..
It's not about the gear..
It's musicianship..
From Chicago to Tromso Norway I've watched some really great musician's kill it with a $300.00 guitar and a $100.00 amp.
You can spend 50 grand in gear, TH-cam it up, get sponsored and still totally suck as a musician...
So.. why not focus on musicianship.. perfect your skills on the fretboard..
And just melt their minds when you're up there on that stage playing your ass off displaying true musicianship...
I think you hit the nail right on the head brother. After seeing both of Fluff's videos I can say imo the iconic sounds just as good as the other 2 in its own way and in its own right. And personally if my budget (and space) would allow, I'd love to pick one up for myself.
Ola Englund tested out the 5150 valve combo amp recently on his "Will it Chug" video. He quite liked it.
Yes he did, but if he didnt like it, it doesn't mean that the amp is bad either since tone is subjective right??? The problem is that too many people are always thinking that huge youtubers know it all which is not the case. Again, tone is subjective. I could care less if Ola likes it or not, at the end, he is human like the rest of us.
EDWARD HAD HIS HANDS ALL OVER THE CREATION OF THIS AMP 100% For the price...Imho you just cannot beat the Iconic!!!....with all the great features it's a bad ass ALL TUBE AMP!!!...I'm a bedroom player and hoping one day I can afford to get the EVH ICONIC 1X12...will be long while until I save do to fighting terminal HCC..which is non alcoholic liver cancer ...but I'm determined!!!..I was leaning towards the EVH 5150 III LBX-S then save more and get a 2x12...but now that I've seen the features you get in an all tube screamer that has all the great bells and whistles..like reverb ..a noise gate...built in boost...all the modern inputs and outputs for recording direct...or to expand say to another 1x12/4x12 cabs!!..IMO it's a steal!!!...Edward would not of Ok'd this amp line if it wasn't up to snuff!....My theory is that there just was a post production snafu on the release video sound wise... trying to hurry to please folks who have been bombarding them non stop with emails and demands about the amp line...jmo though...cheers
Wow dude. So sorry to hear that, but I absoultely wish the best for you.
You hit the nail on the head. That video didn’t sound the best in my opinion but it wasn’t setup for my style of music. That video disappointed me tone wise but I was gonna wait for people who DO play my kinda music on it and it blew me away when people like Fluff and Ola put out their videos of it. It’s very gritty sounding and I like it quite alot. I’m really hyped that you’re getting one, because you’re another of my favorite youtubers. I really want one as well
Just got mine yesterday!! Got the ivory model and it looks stunning. It’s not quite as heavy or as wide as my Evh 5150 100s . Haven’t played it yet but I’m sure it won’t disappoint .
scooped tones do not sound good
I thought it was weird people were surprised the EVH channel would release a video with an amp dialed in to sound like…. EVH. Like, I’m pretty sure they understand their target audience 🤣 I can’t imagine a marketing director proofing the video and going “it’s not djun djun djun enough, redo it”
This. 1000% this.
I just bought the combo version of this amp and i love it ! You can’t wipe the smile off my face when I play it .its such a versatile amp , the built in noise gate and boost is so cool . I also own a rockerverb 50w and a jcm 900 and the 5150 is a total beast !
It really comes down to your own preference for tone 🙌 I agree man , why the need for such negativity ?
i replaced the speaker : celestion vintage 30 , i luv it
I just ordered it . I have the EVH 50 watt lll and this actually sounds better . And I love the fact that it’s loud enough and easy to move around . Amps are super expensive today . For the price this is a great buy also .
I think people hating just dont know the different between the sound of an amp and the sound of a speaker. And how many were listening through studio monitors with a treated room? And room correct software. :)
Exactly how much you wrote it, sir
Hey Ray,
So glad to hear you bringing this up. This is a trend I've noticed for quite awhile. There are people who play guitar and use gear simply as a means to an end, there are guitar players who love tone chasing and talking about gear, but are ultimately about expressing themselves as musicians. Then there are people who I think are just looking for a "tribe". They play guitar, but they are more caught up in the little society created in comment sections and forums. There are dogmas (tubes are always better than solid state, American guitar are always better than one's made in the far east etc etc), there are little tribes that are all about certain pedals or amps or whatever, but at the end of the day, they are in love with the IDEA of something, rather than seeing gear as a real tool of expression.
I say this because as a teenager, in many ways that was me. I was way more of a tone snob at 19 than I am at 34. I wouldn't be caught dead with a Boss pedal then; now I love Boss. Funny thing is 19 year old me is not even in the same league as a player/songwriter/artist. Once you actually know what you're doing, you start to realize how much bullshit is floating around out there.
I have a EVH 5150 EL34 50w that I quite like. Some things could be better frankly, but it's a solid amp (especially the blue channel) for the more classic heavy rock sound I prefer. But I can tell you with complete certainty that if I was a "chugga chugga" palm muted drop tuning type player, the ICONIC would easily be the best of the bunch. And if you blindfolded them and had them play all the different versions, most of the people shitting on the amp who like that kind of playing would agree.
I think the SS power amp etc actually tightens up the sound and gives it more clarity on the low end, which is perfect for that kind of music.
Make no mistake, the reason most of the people who shit on this amp, shit on it, is because of the dogmas that: a) solid state is ALWAYS worse than all tube, and b) Less expensive amps are always inferior to more expensive ones.
Tell me I'm wrong....
Peace.
I guarantee that more than half of the bad comments were from people who don't even play guitar, or people who have never been on an actual stage playing. I just bought a brand new 5150 iconic 80 watt head and I pair it with my 2011 Marshall 1960A cab and it rips.
I use an Ibanez TS and noise gate into the input + EQ and delay in the FX Loop. The TS really makes this amp shine and gives you the CHUG you want. Ola and many others have proven this, (The Tube Screamer or Boss Super OD into the input of the amp).
For the TS: Gain at 12 O'clock, Tone at 12 O'clock, level jacked.
Dude.. totally agree with you...I'm not a metal guy but I have enjoyed your channel lately...stay positive man...
Ray, never commented on your videos. But this is right on the money. Why so much hate? Glad you (and many of your peers you mention) are trying to keep it positive. And I love the Whitney shirt dude!
Could not agree more Ray, love your videos
Hey thanks so much!
It's unfortunate that people feel the need to hate on anything. Have your opinion about something, if, you've taken time to consider what it is that you disagree with. To simply state you don't like something before you take time to research it, isn't fair to all those that read that statement. Good topic Ray, maybe not even so much about the Iconic. Love your channel. Keep the positive vibes flowing my brother.
Great video dude! Love your work. Judge the amp yourself, never from a TH-cam video. I plan on picking one up myself and give it a spin.
I blame Ola for the chugs! 😆
It would be nice if people that didn’t like the amp just decided “hey, it’s not for me. I like this other amp so I’ll buy it instead.” Unfortunately, the internet gives everyone the platform to find faults and flaws with anything and only glorify those negatives. I dig the few videos I’ve heard of it and would love to own one.
I agree, but I also think you learn more about products from negative reviews, than you do from positive ones, especially in a world where a lot of companies pay people to make positive reviews, positive comments, etc
happy new year bro,,,hears to a grate 2022
I just got me the 5150 El 34 amp head with a 2x12 cabinet and I have no complaints the clean channels on that thing you can dial them in and they are amazing and you can rock your ass off on it too I have no complaints about it I haven't had it that long but I love it I would definitely recommend it it will hold up to fender Marshall or anything else you want put up against it
Staying Positive Ray!!!
All this craziness over mic placement. Fluff and Kyle thanks for making great demo videos of the Icon and waiting for yours next Ray!!!!
I agree with you 100%. I'm no expert on this subject but I enjoy all this content. I'm sure EVH made this amp for people that want a 5150 at a good price point. It was purposely made to replicate an original 5150 in tone and for fans of it. The haters just need to say "Hey, it's cool, but not for me" There are different amps for different tones and taste. People just need to chill.
I’ll never fully understand being so snobby about gear. Obviously you have the right to craft your own sound and like what you like, but things aren’t always cut out to be exactly what you want. I love what I have, a used schecter hellraiser that I grabbed for 300 bucks and a Randall 2x12 combo that I found on Craigslist for 200 that absolutely rips. It’s all I can really afford as a high school student. I’ve played gigs with it, and nobody gave me a presentation regarding why I should get a tube amp and why emgs suck and all that. People will talk about my playing, and that’s all I care about. If they ask what I’ve got for a rig, I tell em. Sure, I’d love to have a generator 100 and an oversized Mesa cab with a mayones beast of a guitar, but I wouldn’t trade the Craigslist special for anything. Live and let live my dudes🤘🏻
Cool video Ray. To be honest I think a lot of people waited for a reason to unfairly bash on this amp because they were biased on where its made and the fact it had not enough preamp tubes. And after watching a few other Videos I was seriously considering buying one. And on another note if I dial in my 5150 stealth to an 80s Lead tone and play it through my 212 Cab it sounds fizzy AF on the red channel too. Stay safe Ray 😁
So I have this amp as well as the 5150IIIs and I can tell you this amp has a lot of versatility. The clean channel is very dry but that allows you to get the most out of your effects. the Crunch on channel 1 is very usable. The 2 Channel is what you would expect from any EVH amp tons of gain and very usable!!! The Burn setting rounds it out and the Built in Reverb is a good one. and the 1/4 watt switch is sweet. Overall it is a great sounding amp if you take the time to dial it in. (like you would for any amp).
Nice amplifier I just don't have the room for it unless their is a combo model.
Hey Ray...cant wait to see your Review...im getting one as well..but I have a EVH el34 212 cab...should be ok..home use not planning on Cranking it...cant wait...if you have one of the EVH 212 cabs would love to hear what it sounds like 👍 😀
Perhaps one of your best messages here, Ray. Well done.
Good point bro. Too much hate on the internet. Play more, hate less. You're totally right. I will totally play one of those Iconic without a problem. And I own and Original Peavey 5150II USA and a EVH 5150III LBX. People are becoming kinda snobby.
I have been waiting to get one of these Iconics for months and regardless of who hates on it it'll be a choice of application for myself lol.I am sure i will like it ... may not be the swiss army tool of tone but what is? Cannot wait to see u demo this amp when ya get it sir \../,
I’ve already demoed it 🙌🖤
Completely agree. How can you judge the sound without hearing it for yourself in person?? Sound on video is totally different than it is in person. Do you not go test drive a car before judging if you like it or not??? Same concept…. Go to the store and test drive the amp, set to your setting then judge if you like it or not!!!! People just wanna hate for the sake of hating
GREAT vid dudeman! People's negativity can be very toxic, especially in the Metal/Rock community. I'm a straight chugger and this dude blew my doors off also. But that's his style and sound. I'm 37 and I feel the generational gap or boomer shit needs to chill. Maybe it stems from this? But either way I LOVE MUSIC and your positive attitude! Let it spread! Keep it up #StayMetalRay
The great thing about the internet is that it gives everyone a voice.
The bad thing about the internet is that it gives everyone a voice.
I also think that it's become more cool to hate on things an be negative - and I've seen from a for YT creators that negative videos seem to do better. And some content creators have built their entire platform on being negative, whiny, little biatches only.
And that's why I come here - your positivity is refreshing.
Onto the 5150 - yes the corporate video was done a certain way - but the reviews/ head-to-heads done by Ola and Fluff and a few others show the Iconic off much better.
On top of that though - we all know the YT compression throws things off.
People throwing their opinion out there have not touched the amp, heard the amp in a room and, in a blind test - whether in real life or on YT, could not tell the difference.
Especially if the amps were dialed in to sound close - all this scooped mid business and fizziness - that can be dialled out to a large extent with the EQ knobs.
Honestly - if you took 3 of any amp off a line and set them up with everything at 12 - there would be subtle differences in the output due to manufacturing variations in the valves, pots, diodes and other parts.
Excellent commentary- Totally agree- Great artist never criticize minor issues they just stay the path and create music.
Personally, I’ve never gotten along with the 5150, EVH or Soldano’s for that matter. But a lot of my friends who have them love em and sound killer through them. I just prefer how I sound through my 800 or Deliverance 60.
As far as what I’m trying to achieve as a guitar player. It’s all about writing a good song. If I become a better player through challenging myself to come up with something interesting then that’s just a positive byproduct.
Very cool perspective, it's what I once heard referred to as a Mission Statement. The song comes first, and space between riffs and beats is magical, or at least sometimes it can be. Movement lives between the waves. AC/DC. DIO. THE STONES.
I love these bands and I believe they always placed the song before technique or prog accolades.
@@saltpeter7429
Serve the song has always been my approach. And you’re right on the money about AC DC and the Stones. Sometimes you gotta step back and ask yourself if you’re just pulling root.
Hey, Dude Is it worth buying ? Cause i was wondering about this tube amp but lot Of people are complaining about that head, i play Metal/ Death Metal and I am wondering Will It be a good amp for this Kind Of Metal type? \m/
@tone wars did a great review of this amp in depth and I believe was the 3rd video published about the Iconic. He should be mentioned along with the other TH-camrs as well. Anyone who rips this amp apart and hasn't actually played it loses major credibility points in my opinion. I'm much more inclined to trust a live comparison than a troll that's manufacturing controversy for clicks.
I got mines on Christmas Eve and I was blown away it awesome 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I always keep an open mind and don't judge on my first impression.....Just give what ever you do or see and hear a chance!!!
What’s does EVH stand for? Where is this brand from? U.S, China? For myself, I’d try for my for 1st electric amp would be a Marshall or VOX.
Lol, we have to master the palm mute chug to match Cookie Monster, our new vocalist! Kidding aside, the reason so many guitarists are hating on an amp that they've never played us because, somehow, guitar playing, especially lead playing, became a pissing contest and jealousy and rivalry trumped musicianship and fun!
I think the amp sounds great tbh, as for the bad comments... I bet more than half of those bad comments come from non gigging musicians and love to snob on gear way above their play grade. For the price it's a good amp.. Just my opinion. Stay metal
I do it for the finished instrumentals, Inlove good gear, if I was 20-21 and trying to cheaply step my rig up but instead of 2002 its 2022 and Id totally wanna know if that amps was worth it, thanks Louis Torres and the likes
Ray, I think the answer to you're question is dependant on who's playing...
As for negativity, every individual CHOOSES their response, and that tends to reflect that individual...
Love the channel ray...love those amps...have owned several 5150 212 combos..bought one when they first came out back in the day...I wish I kept that one...
Question for you, Ray. Is Minnetap a dead issue or just on the back burner? That bands crushes!
Man I love all kind of tones, and I love all kinds of players, my critique of modern players(not being negative to be negative) is modern metal players are kind of homogeneous as far stylistic and tonal choices, like you say everyone just focusing on the "chugs" I've kinda reacted to that mainly because I'm older from a different generation of METAL players, I like an amp to sing and scream for lead tones more than just that rectifier chug "djenty" tone, while I do enjoy it my style is different than that, I'd actually love to have one of these amps(or one of the big ticket "real ones") but I would probably use it much differently, I always start with a good loud clean tone than add gain ,than I'm using a BOSS or RAT to push the amp into lead tones, I was jamming with some friends who gave me a mesa triple rectifier to use, and I used the clean channel with my pedals driving it just like that, I think that's a big point you made that a lot of younger players aren't getting, a good amp is just a place to start shaping your own tone, a lot of modern "chug/djenty players are using the expensive 5150s and playing a million miles away from a shredder EVH style using the amp in a different way so I don't get why they don't think of this amp the same way, and give it a shot trying it out before shooting it down.
The EVH Red Channel or old school PV style 'Lead' channel was always fizzy and overtly edgy to my ears. Even though I love 5150 style tone I've always lived on the Clean/Crunch/Blue channel so I can't understand the vitriol. I absolutely agree, the guitarist has an opportunity to showcase his skills but the negativity has overshadowed his ripping which is a shame.
In answer to your deeper question- IMO there's nothing wrong with the guitar community. Social Media sucks, period, and is designed to bring the worst out in people.
Can't wait to hear your demo 🤘😎🤘
The hate is ridiculous. I never had the opportunity to meet Eddie van Halen so I can only go by interviews I've read and seen from other guitar players and musicians I look up to that all spoke very highly of him (aside from a few stories that pointed out some situations, but were all human) and most all of the people said he was a generous guy and further more they had a story about how he did something very generous for them. Eddie did not come from money and did not forget that and I would bet the whole iconic line was him trying to give kids that don't have alot of money a chance to have a badass amp so maybe they could be heard or atleast achieve a sound that makes them happy. I would bet he would be happy and even continue trying to figure out ways to make sure his company could continue to offer this amp at a nice achievable price. It's a fully loaded amp at great price and it's definitely gonna be capable it's not like amps don't have eq's and the people offering criticism wouldn't put 6 or 7 overdrives ,Delays and reverbs on it anyway. I could keep going
Too many people can't tell the difference between "I don't like this product" and "this product is actually bad".
If an amp doesn't catch fire it's not shit. Tone is entirely subjective. I play a lot of sludge and I think this thing slaps. So bored of the "djent and metalcore can only have one tone and they are the only metal that counts so if it can't do that one tone then it's shit" school of thought. Get weird with your tone and open your mind in terms of genres.
Love your takes on this stuff. Keep spreading the positivity dude! The community is slowly turning against the snobs and content like yours is really helping that.
Love your videos Ray and congrats on the success you’ve had on your channel. Keep ‘em coming bro. You hit some good points in this video especially. Like any piece of gear, I want to hear how it sounds and feels in person.
I would love to try one. Personally I’ve never liked the 5150 amps. The gain structure isn’t appealing to me. I do however like what other guitarists do with it. I like more classic gain structure (less distortion more bark). I think this new iconic sounds clean... the noise gate was also a great idea. I love Van Halen and EVH gear. Just not a fan of the amps. Especially the Peavey. I think the EL34 5150 is the most appealing. I’ve owned a Peavey and EVH White 5150 III. 6L6’s just aren’t my thing. But it’s really up to the individual musician to be inspired and create with it. So whatever works for you, then jam on. Also, love the channel Ray!
I remember everyone complaining about the original 5150s clean channel sucking blah blah blah. Lol I made another TH-camr mad over the 5150 overdrive. He was arguing how it wasn’t an od but a distortion pedal. All I said was you can use it for whatever you want to 🤷🏻
I didn’t like the sound of the original promo video for any type of music. However, my gut told me that was just a bad example of the amp tone wise. The playing was absolutely incredible though and I acknowledged that in the video. The next video I saw was Fluff’s and it confirmed to me that it’s an awesome amp and the particular tone in the original promo just wasn’t to my taste. This is a great and obviously versatile amplifier. If I didn’t own the big boy already and was still playing live I would buy the 5150 Iconic.
To be quite frank Ray!!!! I got sick and tired of buying new amps and selling my old amps to chase that so called mojo or magic tone from a guitar amp!!!! I decided to just stick with what I have and just play!!!!! All these people that hate and are negative (I would make a bet) probably aren't professional musicians and are just negative internet trolls!!!! The last amp I bought was the Orange Crush 120 combo amp because I heard some good reviews on TH-cam and on other internet forums! The amp is not perfect but it's loud and it suits my needs perfectly!!!! I know it's solid state but it was affordable!!!! And solid state amps are practically maintenance free!!!!(no tubes) Dime Bag Darrell Abbott of Pantera played through solid state amps (Randall Amps) and had a killer tone!!! Also George Lynch of Dokken fame played on Randall Amps for the Tooth and Nail album in 1984-85!!!! I believe good tone is through your hands and your imagination and creativity!!!! Just play and practice!!!!! Too many guitarist get caught up with equipment and technical B.S.!!!!! Just play man!!!!!😄😀😄😃😃😃😀😄😃👍👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘🤘 Well that's my two cents for the day!!!! You have a great day Ray!!!!!
wish I had that amp 35 years ago when I started playing guitar. Would've bought it right away!
Right? How spoiled we’ve become haha
@@xanderraymondcharles That's an excellent way of looking at it. Yes, we have become spoiled. With all the tools available to us now, that did not exist 35 years ago. If the amp Isn't for you then don't buy it. I'm sure there's some kid out there who thinks the amp is the best thing since sliced bread and can actually afford it!
So I just watched Ola england do a review on these new 5150 iconic amps and it sounded pretty good to me in his video. I have to agree with you as well that one video should not dismiss a product. I think when it comes down to amps, guitar's or any gear in general we all have what we like and what we do not like and just because I may not like a certain amp or guitar does not mean it is a bad product or that it sucks. We all have that certain sound we are chasing. I do agree with you as well as why does there have to be so much negative responses. I made a video review on the new Epiphone slash les paul that came out and man I could not believe all the hate and controversy that it caused. And I also said the same thing about people making negative video's about a piece of gear that they had not even seen or played in person. I made my video with the slash guitar in my hands So I agree with you when you say that people really should not be making negative videos and reviews of a piece of gear that they have not even seen or played themselves I actually hate it when certain youtubers do that. I personally plan on getting one of these 5150 Iconic amps as well. Anyway that is my 2 cents keep rocking Ray!
I absolutely agree, and I'm pretty sure I know which TH-camr you're referring to. Every other youtuber who had actually reviewed it has actually enjoyed it. Keep rocking brother!
I’m rocking a crate. I’m not good enough or close to needing a amp. Like that however I’d try it but first I need to learn more of playing.
I’ve got a combo on order….very excited
I can’t wait to try one
Im tempted by the new iconic but the new Orange super crush was also a possibility hell even the mini Diezel... Or a new guitar... To many choices. I would prefer a head but the full size amp doesn't go with my vertical stant 2x12.
For that price point, I think it’s pretty great. Built in noise gates, reverb, cab sim and the power level option? Teenage me would be working all summer for this lol.
I totally agree. There is way too much negativity and hate going on and it's not just in the music world and it's everywhere unfortunately. I always try to steer people in the right direction buy suggesting to try stuff for yourself and not to fully rely on others opinions because what works for them may not work for you and so on. At the end of the day it's just as you sed it's a great budget amp and you get a lot for $900.
You couldn't have said it any better...spot on. People need to spend more time playing and less time complaining.
Great video ray! I’ve never tried or ordered one of the iconic series but my main amp I use is a Marshall hgfx 100 half stack that costs 600 bucks and it sounds great with a bunch of built in effects. Tons of people have told me I need a better amp because of the tone but at that price point and with my playing I agree that it shouldn’t matter. Also that dude in the vid did kill it🤘
Ray I know what the comments mean by solid state sound. Means basically a non tube amp sound and when you only use tube amps it is a big difference. This amp has a little less tubes I believe compared to predecessors so I don't see the issue with solid state sound they claim unless their ears are so fragile to notice the difference. I got to look up specs but anyways I'm use to peavey 6505+ having a few less tubes compared to the 5150iii series. Never had an issue with it.
honestly a lot of people choose to hate amps because A, they just hate to hate, and B, they dont realize that what they hate about the sound is the cab or speaker and not the amp itself. its a 5150 so obviously it sounds like a variant of a 5150 lol.
I think haters will end up buying one secretly for themselves 😂!
My personal opinion aslong as u like ur amps sound personally I have a fender mustang LT25 and my setup is a noise gate running into a alt metal which is basically a mesa boogie dual rec my gain at 8.5 my treble at 7.5 my mids at 3.5 and my bass at like 7.5 8 bc I need the gain cranked to play the type of music I wanna play which is a bunch of different styles of metal and on the same hand if I had to have two amps for a band I’d have a mesa boogie badlander and a EVH 5150 black stealth for a little more scoop bc the boobies have a lot of bass and gain in em
I wanted to wait for the 5150 Iconic, but I bit the bullet for a used 5150iii 50w 6L6, and I love it.
I don’t know why there is always so much negativity in the guitar community,
Like people need to understand that there will never be the “perfect amp” or the “perfect guitar” because it’s all relative to the player,
For everyone who shit on the video they obviously don’t like the sound there for they can go look elsewhere. People like my dad loved the sound and ordered one for himself.
It’s all about the tool that’s right for you and what you’re doing, which is what these types of videos are meant to showcase. There’s something for everyone out there, don’t get butthurt cause this amp isn’t catered to what sound you specifically want.
Love the positivity this channel produces and I’m glad I can always click a video and have a good time here!
It's crazy how the internet loves to hate stuff. It takes some of us a long tome to realize, and some never do, but if WE like something it is good. It doesn't matter what other people think.
People complain about anything. We all have preferences, make music with what you have.
I could care less about what the marketing department at EVH decided to do with how they promote their products… I will wait till the TH-camrs I follow (yes, that includes you Ray 😁) get their hands on it and give their feedback. The price point makes high gain amplification accessible to many more people and I am here for that!
Like the shirt, Whitney was the ultimate rock star. She lived her life one rock at a time.
Its an amp. Does it work when you turn the switch on? Job done.
@StayMetalRay that's exactly what I was thinking when flicking around and watching "Does it Chugh" Videos of this....
I think EVH genuinly wanted to recreate the Tone of the first 5150 in 1991..IT WASNT MEANT FOR DJENT back then!
I've watched 20 seconds of this thing and I'm already like THANK YOU!!! I've had to ask myself the question lately. "Am I buying all this stuff to make music? Or to just dial in tones? All these non-touring guitarist types who think they're cork-sniffers could just get back to USING the stuff. But for all the whining about tone, I don't see "your" album coming out! It's similar to when Glenn Fricker said "No one cares about your Axe FX!"
My first amp was a Peavy, and it was stinker. I just never went back to the brand VH or not. IMO Palm muted chugs aren't much good without a little melody, hook or catchy riff. This, That or the Third should be the name of yer' jazz trio lol. Awesome vid as usual. I think Louis Torress began the hate on this amp, but I like his vid's too.
Idk, I never tried a 1503 style amp, plugged into the stack in the music store, played it and really enjoyed my experience with the amp.
I'll buy one....played one the other day and it's killer ...same reason I don't read movie reviews cause it's always subjective...only opinion I trust other then my own is SMR...
Man, I’ve been comparing a lot of different amp heads lately. Considering the price point and other various factors I’m looking at, I think it’s good buy. I like to keep things simple and straightforward that kick you in face without adding a variety of pedals (including multi-effects) but to each his own right 🤘🏻
