Well done . So am i ..i only fish waggler ...so feeder /method and cage or black cap .my 4 grand pole only comes out in the hieght of summer for big lumps in the margins ....and even then ...a pva bag on the bomb ...is just as good .
Love the old waggler fishing. Fished a charity man match and I was the only one fishing the waggler, everyone else was on the pole. The guy next to me , which happened to be his home water I'd never fished the place before, was truly rattled as I swung fish after fish in. To top it off I landed a nice carp , all on maggot, and he lost the plot, mumbling about how he couldn't get a bite, and he might as well sell his tackle, o now I've hooked myself, he moaned. Just had to laugh to myself and carried on catching. Lovely stuff.
I remember the days of squat / pinkie and slop. That method could be adapted just about anywhere where there were lots of small roach. This won me quite a few quid. Thanks to Mark and Rob Hewson. Cheers, guys!
I love fishing, this is totally different than anything I’ve seen. What’s a pinkie, a squat, a slop and a waggler? Is he catching these small fish for bait to catch larger fish??
Wagglers, can't go wrong. Especially slider float fishing, now that a forgotten art. Did loads of that in the 80's in the army. Based in Germany, fishing inlets off the Rhine. Many good memories catch slabs all day and all night long :)
As an american, british forms of fishing absolutely blow my mind. From sitting down while fishing to having the cstch bag and using maggots and stuff as well as chumming the watter. So taboo
Started at 7 years old with a bamboo/split cane rod, intrepid fixed spool and porcupine waggler, eyed 18 hook and maggots…and caught my first fish…a small perch. I have tried pole fishing, carp fishing, feeder fishing and at 70 I am back Waggler fishing (albeit now with Drennan carbon 13 ft X-tension rod and shimano real)….still the finest form of fishing catching everything that comes along from small silvers to double figure carp. Believe you me….there is nothing finer than playing a double figure carp on a waggler rod with 6lb mainline and 4lb hooklength…and landing it. Somehow ……watching pole elastics stretch and yawning whilest the fish ‘plays itself’ …..and bullying in a carp with a 2.75 test curve rod ……doesnt have the same thrill factor. I am now teaching my Grandchildren the thrill of waggler fishing, and like trotting a stick float on the river….IT IS A SKILL THAT WILL NEVER DIE OUT!!!!
Only ever float fished because that's all my father taught me . Looking to go again this year after a 8 year break... I couldn't go again after he passed away :(
I haven't fished a waggler for years. This video has inspired me to give it a go. My local club water, (an old clay pit) is full of rudd, some are 4-6 Oz. and more. It wouldn't take long to build a good weight. A welcome change from targeting carp.
It brings me back to where I was a kid seven years of age fishing with me first match rod a Shakespeare strike and Mitchell real, loved it great video Stephen from Ireland
Be even quicker without the Polly swap 🤣🤣 Mark was a big inspiration for me back in his Black Horse days fishing squatt and balsa wagglers. Adopted it myself and used it with great success on the Kennet & Avon canal. Great method and so quick.
I love waggler fishing, I've come back to my first love after a brief 30 year affair with fly fishing. only to have to (buy) 😢 a cheap waggler set ! So in the last eight months I've made in excess of 100 wagglers, most of which, I'll probably give away to friends and kids
bit busy but great fun if you are in mood for that...i love a 3bb waggler on a kent commercial.. great day out on my chair, rod in the rest fishing on the mixed fishery/match lake ..ive even got the missus into it...
I bough a Waggler rod during the summer and have caught so much Tench, Roach, Bream, Perch and Hybrids. I love fishing with a float especially at night for Tench using a glow stick during the Summer and Autumn. My favourite way to fish as there's nothing better that sitting on my chair on the river bank waiting for that float to go under.
Bruce and Walker fibreglass match rods were the things to have, with a Mitchell 300, spade end hooks and of course Dinsmore extra soft lead split shot.
Great video… I kind of agree really that the wag n mag method isn’t as fashionable as a pole but wag fishing is a skill .. have to say the one thing that will die out forever for sure one day is the “Polly swap” ….. it’ll be a sad day when that happens so we must make sure we enjoy it whenever we can.. 👍🏻
The best kind of fishing is the one that catches the most fish. It also has to be enjoyable, and it looks like you are having the time of your life there. I would be very interested to hear how you prepare and eat those fish.
14ft Shakespeare president.....440a Mitchell match....waggler,3lb Main line....1lb bottom.....18/20 barbless fine wire hook.....red/bronze mag.......😊 those were the days ❤
Waggler can be faster than the pole, I love fishing the waggler in particular the antennae float. I was on it today catching Crucians and Roach in 5°c, lost my hands got back jumped in hot bath warmed up lovely.
Wish there was more decent rivers and canals down my way so I could fish the waggler more but unfortunately the only way to fish the waggler down my way now is on commercial lakes which aren't always good enough due to their sizes and depths
Grew up fishing waggler on these drains. St marys 5 mins down the road. Lot of great fishing to be had. That swim isnt fished the actual ramsey water is on the opposite bank starts the end of the trees upwards
Most of the members in my club don't even own a waggler rod. I am the only one left that regularly uses a waggler rod. I take 2 with me for every match. One for silvers and one for Carp. I can't compete with them with pole fishing, but I get sneaky wins using the waggler. Usually when weights are low.
I still have my old 13ft Shakey duo gold match rod and a small Daiwa reel for this kind of fishing, not sure if I've any canal wagglers left, can't say I've seen many for sale either sadly.
what is the fish at the beginning of the video? I just recently caught the same looking fish from a small lagoon around me. I'm in the U.S.A though so I don't think people know what they are. I was taking a guess that it was either a Roach or baby carp/Rudd.
if you're not keeping the fish to eat or weigh in for a tournament, can you explain the need of the keep basket please. edit: more questions! how long is the rod? is the float secured with small rubber bead or shot on either side of the line-through?
waggler fishing thats the best way i will. fish it till i pop off nothing like seeing that float dive not knowing if its a perch or a roach or eel Great stuff
Waggler all the way, forty years ago bought my first pole bloody hated it and stopped using it. Now only fish rod and line and 20 years on still making my own waggler’s (tight Yorkshire man)
Waggler fishing is alive and well. It's Wag or stick only for me. Never owned a pole in my life. Fishing is more than just pulling out a load of fish, you've got to enjoy doing it. I love waggler fishing, the pole has absolutely no appeal to me.
im a big fan of the waggler, so much more comfee than a 12 mtr plus pole, and i find it easier and faster when rebaiting. the pole dose have its place but long live the wagler method
I do it myself in the winter, 1 Rod, And no pole roller or Roost, Easy to set up, And easy to pack away on these short winter days, Just like it used to be, Why make it complicated, They don't know what they're missing.
Bought a pole years ago, sold it within six months. Just wasn't enjoying using it. I get you need a pole match fishing but they take all the pleasure out of pleasure fishing.
youre not the only one who does waggler fishing theres tons of videos online and guys who still make videos about them shit i even got into making them for myself because of videos ive seen where people use them, no idea who you are but i dont think waggler fishing will dissapear when you die sorry but the only thing that will dissapear then is you.
I've got a good idea! Lets fill a puddle with hungry carp and drag them out as fast as humanlt possible. Then pose for a social media clip with 230lb of bewildered tame carp. Been there... it gets tedious.
It's not blindly striking. Mark explains why he strikes on the count of 4 in the video. It's because there is a fish on the end! It there was no fish on the float tip would have settled down.
I'm a waggler fisherman. We are about, i don't fish any other way than on the float and rod.
Well done . So am i ..i only fish waggler ...so feeder /method and cage or black cap .my 4 grand pole only comes out in the hieght of summer for big lumps in the margins ....and even then ...a pva bag on the bomb ...is just as good .
Me too
Me too. I have 2 poles, but I never really got into pole fishing. Much prefer Rods.
Dying art form is the perfect description
My dad tried to make me learn but I was too fixed on the pole to want to try past 15m 😩😩😩
Love the old waggler fishing. Fished a charity man match and I was the only one fishing the waggler, everyone else was on the pole. Yep, I get a few sneaky wins with the waggler. Usually when the weights are low.

Isn’t it? What blows my mind is that they have decent pike around, wouldn’t you want to fish for the pike?
Just brilliant to watch Polly in action on the waggler. Tight Lines Steve Amison 👍🦆🎣
Enjoyed this and one of my local clubs I enjoy fishing at. Grew up on canal Waggler fishing.
Great video Mark. Like your good self I was brought up fishing the waggler on canals mine was a bit tougher though on the North West canal circuit 😅.
Started at 7 years old with a bamboo/split cane rod, intrepid fixed spool and porcupine waggler, eyed 18 hook and maggots…and caught my first fish…a small perch. Sold my pole 12 years ago and went back to rod and line. Not much I can’t do with a waggler rod 👍🏻
Polly making it look so easy , how good is he .
Only ever float fished because that's all my father taught me . Looking to go again this year after a 8 year break... I couldn't go again after he passed away :(
Go and enjoy the day, lovely surroundings and great memory's with your dad.

Great video, love waggler fishing, and learned something new about catching on the drop 🎣👏👍
I grew up waggler fishing on canals....cant beat it on the day...still do today,if fishing the canal or anywhere id rather fish the waggler
It brings me back to where I was a kid seven years of age fishing with me first match rod a Shakespeare strike and Mitchell real, loved it great video Stephen from Ireland

I fish waggler and feeder rod. I dont own a pole and I dont fish for carp. Its all about a quiet day on a natrual water for me. Great video 👍
bit busy but great fun if you are in mood for that...i love a 3bb waggler on a kent commercial.. great day out on my chair, rod in the rest fishing on the mixed fishery/match lake ..ive even got the missus into it...

This is class, Left handed fishing right hand set up
Polly is the Boss
Im a carper but still hit the wagler love it😉👍
Love waggler fishing, still got my match rod from the 80s, pinkie and squat hemp and tares 2lb line and 80z hook length size 18 hook
I’ve still got an Image balsa waggler that Mark gave me when he visited the tackle shop I worked in. Must now be nearly 35 years ago! 😮
Love a waggler, great watching an artist at work 👍👍👍
Great video… I kind of agree really that the wag n mag method isn’t as fashionable as a pole but wag fishing is a skill .. have to say the one thing that will die out forever for sure one day is the “Polly swap” ….. it’ll be a sad day when that happens so we must make sure we enjoy it whenever we can.. 👍🏻

Still are pal 🎣
Used to love fishing far bank on the local canals using homemade drinking straw waglers. Made loads and sold them as well
The Mitchell reel. Fantastic bit of kit. Takes me back to some great days.
It's the music in all these fishing videos that dose my head in not the traffic
I Regularly waggler fish, love it.
Am a float and reel and rod guy , I have a pole but love the waggler better
I love waggler fishing for carp. I mix between feeder fishing and waggler.
Won my first adult match 1975 on the river Delph at manea fishing exactly like that ,7 lb of beautiful little silvers
Never forgotten, my favorite tactic, since I was a boy 🎣 4:07
Waggler can be faster than the pole, I love fishing the waggler in particular the antennae float. I was on it today catching Crucians and Roach in 5°c, lost my hands got back jumped in hot bath warmed up lovely.

Mark pollard signature canal rod 11ft 10 inch what a rod ,should reissue it ,was offered £400 for mine 😮,
No polly plenty of us into the wag... like yourself another great exponent of the art is a certain
Mr POWER.... 😊
Most of the members in my club don't even own a waggler rod. I am the only one left that regularly uses a waggler rod. I take 2 with me for every match. One for silvers and one for Carp.

Look out for the Drennan Hi Viz wagglers, very similar to the old Canal Blues
In the states we call it bobber fishing and it will never die
Used to use your wagglers and adapters still got a few superb floats
What is the fun in that it's like when the whiting are in on chesil but at least then you have to cast 100-150 yards
In the right conditions and the fish are having it it’s quicker than the long pole and more enjoyable
what is the fish at the beginning of the video? I just recently caught the same looking fish from a small lagoon around me. I'm in the U.S.A though so I don't think people know what they are. I was taking a guess that it was either a Roach or baby carp/Rudd.
i love floating.. ledger.. and ten ft pole..port meadow oxford canal love it
if you're not keeping the fish to eat or weigh in for a tournament, can you explain the need of the keep basket please.
edit: more questions! how long is the rod? is the float secured with small rubber bead or shot on either side of the line-through?
I've won more matches on the waggler than on tip ,,and I use a mark pollerd soft tip float rod it's nearly impossible to bump one 😅
waggler fishing thats the best way i will. fish it till i pop off nothing like seeing that float dive not knowing if its a perch or a roach or eel Great stuff
Not forgotten by me, I've never fished with a pole.
Killed my pole for the waggler now, can't wait to start again
Waggler all the way, forty years ago bought my first pole bloody hated it and stopped using it. Now only fish rod and line and 20 years on still making my own waggler’s (tight Yorkshire man)
I always fish the waggler. I fish the upper Nene and I'll out today fishing for silvers.
Me 2 that's wot I was brought up on and that's what I call fishing and stick float good old days ❤❤
Haven't gone coarse fishing in 20 years, but really surprised no-one uses wagglers.
Waggler fishing is alive and well.
It's Wag or stick only for me. Never owned a pole in my life.
Fishing is more than just pulling out a load of fish, you've got to enjoy doing it. I love waggler fishing, the pole has absolutely no appeal to me.
I bought some canal greys yesterday. 👍
If I went to the river and fished next to him I'd sling my gear in and go home lol. great vid and tips.
I waggler fish in the states, for chubs. Even just yesterday in the Creek by my house.
We use maggots too, but we call them wax worms here.
im a big fan of the waggler, so much more comfee than a 12 mtr plus pole, and i find it easier and faster when rebaiting. the pole dose have its place but long live the wagler method

Proper old school fishing how we learnt our watercraft in the old days
In the right conditions and the fish are having it it’s quicker than the long pole
Iv gone from commercial to fishing more river ribble cracking river waggler stick feeder or gear out for barbel
Crazy the way you fish the rod both handed...you keep switching the rod between hands
Bought a pole years ago, sold it within six months. Just wasn't enjoying using it. I get you need a pole match fishing but they take all the pleasure out of pleasure fishing.
Waggler will never die until someone invents a 30 meter pole. Since technically waggler is just shalla fishing at range.
Metre
Are these fish eaten or released?
Would be better with a closed face reel Abu 506
Abi Gracia closed face reel seen my dad fish with one when I was a kid
Yea still got 2 along with Mitchell matches and 300s great reels
Where do you park your car?
Still fish wagglers have done since the 70s.
youre not the only one who does waggler fishing theres tons of videos online and guys who still make videos about them shit i even got into making them for myself because of videos ive seen where people use them, no idea who you are but i dont think waggler fishing will dissapear when you die sorry but the only thing that will dissapear then is you.
If I had only one method i could fish it will be the waggler still got floats I used in the late 70s all peacock
Imo,this should be the only technique allowed in competitions, with the current international rules .
I had a pole 25 years ago and as I only pleasure fish there is no point for me to struggle with a pole
Who doesn’t enjoy a float?
The best way to fish.
If I float fish it's always the waggler
Swopping left to right hand looks strange, but obviously practice make perfect..
More skill using a waggler! Never used a pole and never will !
Good for you. Its fishing ....👍
ik vis al 40 jaar zo en ik stop er niet mee 👍
Im an american... i just discovered how different british fishing is today.
I was trying to work out whether you are left handed, right handed, or just kack handed ? 😂😂😂😂🤷♂️
When I die, it'll go with me!! What?? Does he think he's the only one who fishes light waggler? How immodest.
Its still a massive massive thing on the rivers, naturals and club waters ,not died at all,,clickbait for the commercial fisher me thinks,,
What are you going to do with such small fish ? I hope you are catching bait.
I've got a good idea! Lets fill a puddle with hungry carp and drag them out as fast as humanlt possible. Then pose for a social media clip with 230lb of bewildered tame carp.
Been there... it gets tedious.
Are you ok? There's not carp in this video? It's a natural drain in the fens and not a carp in sight?
👍
Blindly strikeing on your count is a little strange to me . I like to watch the bite develop and then strike 🎣
It's not blindly striking. Mark explains why he strikes on the count of 4 in the video. It's because there is a fish on the end! It there was no fish on the float tip would have settled down.
was taught to let each bite develop & strike when necessary because each bite can be different.
Seems a little automated .
@@Northstar-MediaIt was obvious that the fish were holding up the bait,
idk man alot of ppl fish like this
Waggler all the way I hate pole fishing .....
Do you use those little fingerlings to catch bigger fish later on?
