Absolutely wonderful footage. This was about the time, maybe a few months later, that i first heard Joni, and made me a fan. I had listened to other folk singers, Buffy Ste-Marie, Joan Baez, etc. but Joni got into my first place. This video is a true cornerstone of very great moments to follow in years ahead, unsurpassed by no one. Thank you for posting this rare find to YT.
Take 30 was a fabulous show. And the CBC is still the best Canadian television channel......by miles. It does what all of the other networks don't do......IT SHOWCASES CANADIAN TALENT! I recognized Paul Soles and had to check to see if his is still around. He is----at 90. I think this is from before 1967. Adrienne Clarkson was the female co- host by then.
First time I've seen this. Thank you so much for posting. Wonderful momentary capture of a bud opening into the most beautiful flower I have ever known.
This is the first time I have seen this - it's really great to see this early, early interview when Joni was in the early days of her career. She mentioned singing those old traditional ballads and "House of the Rising Sun." It would be great to see her singing some of those songs. Thanks for posting this!! Much appreciated! I love the early material of Joni's from the 60's.
Everybody’s talking about Joni, but not one girl here other than myself, (from the new generation), is talking about how lucky those two girls are sitting next to “Hermey”, like, if that was me if I was alive back then, sitting next to young Paul, like, OMG, I would be fangirling on the inside so hard! 😊💖 Paul made my ENTIRE childhood as Hermey from Rudolph for so many years! I love him as Hermey so much! 😊 💖 R.I.P. Paul 💖
When she says her songs are happy I fell off my chair. Beautiful, observant, blue, genius, story like, jazzy, cynical, sad and lonely spring to my mind, but certainly not happy. She's one of kind though. Guitar genius. Thanks for posting.
she sure is different and special I know she followed the lead of Joan Baez with the singing most folk singer s learn t from Joan Baez but she certainly has her own way and earned it what an angelic voice exciting to hear ....even now its 2018 I wonder if she ever dreamed she would make such an impact on a whole generation
what a gem! Even at this stage the light of a true genius shines. No wonder Crosby, Nash, Stills, Young, Page, Plant, Dylan and countless others fell in love with her
love playing this song on guitar, it's so so beautiful. "daydreaming can get you into a lot of difficulty sometimes..if it's not used properly.." truer words were never spoken.
i wonder why she never recorded some of her songs. they're all so beautiful. i love her early stuff from the 60s the best, just a personal opinion. and she's so amazingly beautiful! it's unearthly. and she just glows... and she tunes a guitar so effortlessly with her perfect pitch and open tunings
I agree with you that these early songs were favorites. Only Joni can answer the question why the sings weren’t recorded. But i am educatingly guessing that the whole “star-maker machinery”, as Joni has called it, was not as strong an influence at that time in her life, in favor of being a troubadour with the song to sing. For that matter, i”m not sure recording hit sings was the ultimate goal in the 1960’s coffeehouse “beatnik” scene at all, along similar sentiments. Recording certainly entered into the picture, because it meant a rewarding means to survive, to what extent became each artist’s personal dragon to wrestle with.
joni is gt8, wow paul soles must have been early 30s there ? can sort of hear 'Spiderman' in his voice hey ? RIP Paul//loved him as my fav super hero !
I love everything about Joni Mitchell. She is a Gift from Heaven.
Millions of people fell in love with her. What a career. What an amazing life.

Thanks for sharing. It's more important to try to expose these moments than to allow them to be lost for "copyright concerns". Bless you!

Thanks so much for posting this video. I would say much more , but I fear that after pouring out my heart the only response might only be "huh?".

Thirty-five years later Governor General Adrienne Clarkson bestowed the Order of Canada on Joni Mitchell. Amazing full circle.
