Well, the first settlers came from Ulm, so they named it New-Ulm, which is logical. Funny thing is, in Germany, we have a Neu-Ulm, too :D. Neu-Ulm is in Baviera, whereas Ulm is in Baden-Württemberg. Both towns are separated by the river Donau (Danube). But all three cities have more or less close ties to each other, and maintain that level of city-friendship. In 2023, a delegation from Ulm and Neu-Ulm went to visit New-Ulm, Minnesota for example.
