- Taking my 9 year old Tesla model S with a battery SOH of 89% on an 8000+ km, 5000+ miles trip from our home in Hungary, over to the UK and up to Aberdeen, then down to Alicante, Spain and then back over to Hungary. Can an older EV make the trip in an enjoyable manner?

Nice meeting you at South Mimms today. Interesting channel. Safe travels.
Thanks, you too!
Interesting, enjoyed seeing Knaresborough and Ripon (not been there). Seems like there are lots of Tesla chargers about!
Hi, glad you liked it. Thank you. Yes, I really can't get my head around how people think there would be any problem in the UK with finding chargers, Tesla or otherwise. I get that some parts of the country are less well provided than others, but compared to the large distances between chargers in some European countries, the UK is pretty well served. Spain is a completely different matter, tags or cards required at many providers and a Spanish bank card and/or phone number to register on the apps.
I drive munich to cardiff and back a few times a year. Model Y with roof box. And charge is generally effortless unless my nav is a bit unclear and I miss an exit. I do wish Tesla had more chargers at services in Europe, as they do along the M4 in the UK.
We’ve done trips in Germany with bikes, camping equipment and 5 people filling the car. Effortless mostly, just some checking for route to account for charging options.
Excellent, and thanks for the comment. I still have total non believers in my circle of friends, but some are slowly coming round. Safe travels.
@@tessiestravelsI’m in Cardiff now and leaving in a few days back to Munich. With young children and a cat, we plan to take overnight breaks on this trip.
Charging means I just don’t feel so tired after 11hr travels (cologne to cardiff via LeShuttle).
The only planning in UK is to avoid Tesla chargers in paid car parks. Also applies to some outlet centres in Europe.
And in the UK most superchargers are at motorway services whilst in Europe they are off the motorways and lack good amenities (for the most part). If using non-Tesla at services, the cost is almost double (75c V 45c/KW)
Have you encountered the height restricted chargers? A real pain when you have bikes on the roof.
I don't blame you for having properties out of the UK as life here is getting unbearable , Good example i could not get an NHS dentist , I need 7 bad teeth to be extracted due to years of drinking cola and sugary foods so have had to cough up £1400 to have that done and then will have to pay another £800 for a partial denture , I think it is very bad the UK is becoming like a 3rd world country , Anyway you chose wisely by buying a Tesla as they seem to have Batteries that last a lot longer than the equivalent Nissan or Renault EVs , I'm looking at getting an EV soon as my current car a Fiat 500 has cost me an arm and a leg in repairs and its not that old lol , Anyway looking forward to pt2 cheers
Many thanks for the comment. We left the UK to live 12 years ago, had minor set backs and regular visits back to see family , but I doubt we will ever be back to live here.
@@tessiestravels Awesome 😀 glad you made a life for yourselves outside of the UK , I may have to do the same soon as the Govt is just ripping us off now , Good example my local council wants to raise tax by 25% in April 2025 im not paying it anymore , As i only live in a small 1 bed flat but they already want £130 a month so add 25% ontop of that and it will be like £155 a month unaffordable , Then theres the ever rising food gas water and electric bills too , Its like we Brits pay a privilege to just livin in the UK , Anyway im glad you got out years back and hope i can too.
Talking about range and chargers with other vegan EV drivers. Petrol and diesel drivers don't know what they're missing. It's cool, fun and healthy whilst looking cool. "Range anxiety" No way!
But always feel on the edge of what is deemed normal!
This is what pisses me off about the Tesla haters:
If had stood on my driveway, with my friends, and said; My new car has 500HP, O-60 in 3.6s but does 110mpg and is silent. It doesn’t need services and has more interior space than the X5 it replaced …. They would all be agast. Impressed beyond belief…
But when I say it’s a Tesla, they all sneer and get very grumpy! Petulant child-like. “Elon should shut his bloody mouth” “That thing will catch fire” “Doesn’t he support Trump?” “Car parks can’t stand the weight” “It depreciates fast” “Takes hours to charge” “You’ll need new batteries in two years and they cost £30K” “You can’t cross Europe in it”
Utter imbeciles…
I hear it over, and over and over but slowly a few are coming round to the idea of an EV in the future.
Just get a Tesla
