Even in the old rules, I have Warriors in 4 or 5. Curry getting fouled every time even while shooting and still doesn’t get these calls right now, so the old rules wouldn’t affect his game
If it’s the so called old rules where apparently it was so physical then the warriors could set harder screens and get more open shots. And the pistons defense never saw anything like the warriors motion offense the played good defense in the dead ball iso era the pistons would get blasted
If you didn't closely watch the pistons you don't get it. That was my favourite team of all time. They had at least 3 starters coming off the bench. Very deep team and best defensive team ever. They would shock the world just like they did in 04. Offensive teams never stood a chance.

Fact of the matter is, the '04 Pistons just don't have enough offense. That starting 5 isn't going to play 48 minutes. Right. Everyone only looks at the Warriors offense but they were one of the best defensive teams of the era. I'll give Pistons the better defense but the Warriors offense is MILES above Pistons and anyone they faced in the past. It took the Cavs 7 games with a full squad and the last shot from Irving to take down a Warriors without Green for two games, Bogut out, Iggy. Add KD, they ran through the league and it wasn't even arguable. They swept the James. Warriors are one of the best offensive teams in the NBA history. Edit: Lakers 2002 is an asterisk. Kings was screwed by that refs who admitted to helping the Lakers.
I think the most underrated aspect of this is how easy it would be for the warriors to guard the pistons. You could basically play zone the whole game as the warriors and let them prove they can shoot 3’s at a high clip. Offensives the warriors are gonna drop 40 points per quarter. Easy kill.
@Robcbiz this might be the dumbest post in all the responses. The warriors didn’t average 40 a quarter against bad defensive teams they played against. So now they are going to put up 40 a quarter against one of the best defensive teams in the history of the NBA? The question is rhetorical because your opinion is dumpster juice.
Pistons don't double. They played Shaq strait up too. And they don't switch. Stick with your man and get around screens. And they run plays and kill that shot clock. Less possessions.

I don't understand why these guys are determining the winner of this series with matchups. If we determined the winner of the 2004 lakers/pistons finals with matchups, the lakers would have won. Shaq, Karl Malone, and Kobe Bryant were better on paper. They lost because the pistons were a better TEAM. They were more than the sum of their individual parts. Considering the 17' warriors had one of the greatest offenses in the history of basketball, and the 04' pistons had perhaps the greatest defense in basketball history, I think a more appropriate question is: "What happens when an unstoppable force hits an unmovable object." The 04 pistons broke so many ridiculous defensive records. One of only 2 teams (jordan's bulls) to hold a playoff team under 60 points. Allowed under 85 points in 15 playoff games. Allowed under 80 points in 11 playoff games. 70 or less in 6 playoff games. Allowed 65 or less in 3 playoff games. Allowed under 40% FG in 12 playoff games. Least points allowed per game in the shot clock era. Pistons are getting more defensive and offensive REBs, forcing more TOs, winning more loose balls against 17 GSW The kicker for me is that ONLY 2 LAKERS PLAYERS had double digit points in 4 of the 5 games in the finals, Kobe and Shaq. Also, Kobe and Shaq only averaged 22ppg and 26 ppg in this series. These hall of famers, top 10 in bball history, struggled against this pistons defense. I do not see Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, or Klay consistently dropping 25+ on the 04 pistons. Pistons in 7 w/ hybrid rules
Richard's last comment on the warriors about to win three in a row, but they didn't so it's irrelevant. I love the conversation about the warriors because everyone talks as if they would have made every three they would have attempted LOL🎉

No team these days trying to play through the post, which was 80% of the 2000s offense, it’s alot slower and alot less shots. The Warriors will outshoot the Pistons by a mile and dominate the number of offensive possessions, then you factor in they are scoring in more 3s vs 2s….. the math just aint mathing. If Larry Brown had remained the head coach, rest in peace Flip Saunders, they would have continued to be a defensive Juggernaut and I believe would have won more titles. After the 04 win, they went back to the finals after 05, then they had appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals the following three years. Everybody in Detroit new they're identity changed from a defensive one to an offensive one and that was their downfall. 04 Pistons had a historic defensive streak that year. Stef don't want to see Chauncy on the defensive end. To big, too strong, too clutch. Stef might get the best of him offensive but would be tired after. Klay - I love Klay's defense but no one in the league want to chase Rip off those screens, not even Kobe. It was a track meet. (We'll say they cancel each other out) KD - Regardless of what you say, Tayshaun would have frustrated KD on the parameter. If there's any player in history who could have frustrated KD, it would have been Tayshaun. KD would have on that matchup on points but they would not have been easy one. Dre, David West, Zaza, Looney, and Javale Mcgee would loose their matchups with Detroit bigs. (Sheed, Wallace, Elden Campbell, Mehmet Okur, Corliss Williamson) - Too much power in the paint. Both teams had x factors on defense. Andre Igoudala and Lindsey Hunter. They would have had trouble getting the ball past half court on Lindsey. One of the best on-ball defenders ever. These dudes are so damn dim. They played in the same era as the 2004 Pistons and the 2017 Warriors, and yet still don't know what the matchups would be. Jefferson has like Gilbert Arenas low IQ level selective memory at times. Hamilton would be guarding Curry because he can run around with him. Hamilton had elite conditioning and cardio. Thompson would be guarded by Billups. Chauncey can shut off Klay's drives, so it's just about sticking to Thompson's body on the perimeter. Tayshaun would be the one guarding KD because both have incredible length. That would be a very great matchup for KD to try to score on. That prime Tayshaun locked down 04' Kobe by himself, no double team was neccessary. Draymond would be on Ben Wallace. Dray's main responsibility would just be keeping Wallace off the glass and not allowing dunks. Wallace was an anemic offensive player that only got hustle plays like off rebs. Zaza would be on Sheed, Sheed has the mismatch there, but Sheed didn't always have the motor every game to be that guy. 2017 Warriors win in 5. Too much offense against a bad offense. The 04' Pistons offense was terrible. That was their biggest downfall as to why they didn't win more titles. Yes, their defense is all-time great, but that's only accentuated in a very slow pace bad offensive 2000s era of NBA. The early 2000s are some of the worst offensive basketball I have ever seen. 04' Pistons vs 17' Warriors with hybrid rules to adjust to both eras, Warriors in 5. Pistons would have no idea on how to guard that kind of barrage of threes, especially in transition. The 04' Pistons always faced slow paced half court offenses in the 2000s.
Hybrid rules means Prince is also shooting way more threes at nearly 40% in his prime. The spacing all of a sudden with Billups, Prince, and Wallace. Look out. I think people sleep on how many good shooters that Pistons team had just because they played a slower pace.
Even if you increase those guys shot attempts from 3, they’re not outpacing Steph, KD, and Klay in scoring production. That trio is the best trio ever when it comes to shooting
@@bn1342 they don’t have to outpace them lol they still will/can slow the game down cuz Steph will have to check CB or RIP they goin to the post .. same for Dray & Zaza tryna check Sheed lol

@Oldasianguy I watch the old man games, the classics. Mj, magic, kobe, Shaq. The way basketball is played with analytics and people simply taking and MAKING more threes will literally run any of these old teams off the court no Matter how many times you grab Steph currys jersey he would still dance on anyone and send your fans home crying. The slowest teams today are faster than Steve Nash suns. WE HAVE EVOLVED WE DONE WITH THE 90’s
@Oldasianguylmao handchecking ain't stopping shit right now. Kobe said "I don't care if they have 3 hands hand checking ain't stopping me." But he did mention how once zone defense came in they couldn't just iso like the pre zone era. Thats why modern teams have multiple players that can put the ball in the hoop, they evolved. Handchecking isn't stopping teams that have 3 or 4 guys that can put the ball in the hoop.
@Oldasianguy Kobe Bryant "But for scorers like myself and Carmelo and KD, the rules from the '80s can be more beneficial for us, because you have to be played straight up. You want to double team, you got to come all the way over. So, for us, I don't care if you hand check us with three hands. If there's nobody behind you, you're not going to stop us. So the zone I think cripples some of the top scorers.”

That is '24 Kevin Durant. 17 Kevin Durant still had both Achilles and was coming off MVPs and Scoring titles just like Steph. The 17 Warriors would have the 2 best players and they were also the number 1 defense in the league. The Pistons offense is very easy easy to guard because of the lack of skill and spacing.
The team with the best regular season record of all time, plus one of the best scorers of all time in KD. The best shooter of all time in Steph and their THIRD option on a good night could be the 2nd best shooter of all time in Klay. No level of defense is consistently holding that team under 90 points. Warriors sweep
RJ don't understand that these players will be wide open in today's game. They'd be able to get to their spots easier. And with them posting those boys, GS would have no legs by the end of game 1. Chauncy alone will have a field day with curry. I'd post his ass every time down the court, make them double and let sheed kill from 3.
I hate the constant idea that lebron beat the championship pistons . He beat the pistons after Ben Wallace left . Not the same team that’s why he drove to the rim so much in that game
GSW vs Detroit is the wrong conversation. Detroit couldn't score enough and couldn't contain that GSW long enough to stop that GSW team. Now, the Heat, with DWade, Bron and Bosh... that team could sweep the GSW.
Yeah I'm going the 2017 GSW. The playstyles are too different Sheed & Wallace having to cover all that ground on defense every single play. Ppl from past eras can lean on that physicality argument but if you watched games back then your know it was far from a car crash every play like they try to make it seem
😂 this is so funny. Depends on the rules. Chauncey against Curry head to head is 5 + 1 he outplayed him every game I believe it is Chauncey average 21 6 and 3 and Curry average 16 and 6 and 3. And he said rip can't you threes but he shot 34% now imagine him being able to take more threes not being contested Plus Billups was a three-point shooter Rasheed Wallace is a 3-point shooter keep in mind with today's rules they're taking uncontested threes. I am a piston guy I'm not saying who would win but let's be honest the matchup will probably be a little bit more difficult for Golden state.
@@Newportnews98 based on what? Cause you said it. Curry too light in the ass. Chauncey drives and finishes through curry with the foul or just posts him up. Curry will get off shooting 30 footers but you will never win relying on that. If he comes in the paint then the law firm of Wallace and Wallace will be there.
This is what actual ball talk looks like. The difference in talent is not out of the park. They trained to play against very different competition. When you look at the strategies available to both teams, Golden State will have an advantage. If that weren't the case, we would still see people build teams like this.
RJ keep talking about outpacing. Why would tayshaum try to outscore instead of play his game? He stuck on 1v1 matchups. The pistons were a team. They played team defense. Tashaun wouldve soent all his energy getting easy baskets and locking up kd and klay.

Right. Everyone only looks at the Warriors offense but they were one of the best defensive teams of the era. It took the Cavs 7 games with a full squad and the last shot from Irving to take down a Warriors without Green for two games, Bogut out, Iggy. Considering the 17' warriors had one of the greatest offenses in the history of basketball, and the 04' pistons had perhaps the greatest defense in basketball history, I think a more appropriate question is: "What happens when an unstoppable force hits an unmovable object."
The 04 pistons broke so many ridiculous defensive records. One of only 2 teams (jordan's bulls) to hold a playoff team under 60 points. Allowed under 85 points in 15 playoff games. @@leonlee877 good point. I forgot that.
@@leonlee877 and all 4 of them will be HOF
The hawks had 5 what does that mean?
@@chadhowell7239 hawks had 4. And it means they're the first ones that did that and never won anything. NBA messed up.
I love these conversations it gets you thinking, but honestly i believe the 96 bulls, 04 pistons, 86 celtics, 02 or 03 lakers would give them a run for there money
It would be about defense. Which Pistons were great. Draymond talks too much.
They could’ve spaced them out wit Okur too
Even if you increase those guys shot attempts from 3, they’re not outpacing Steph, KD, and Klay in scoring production. That trio is the best trio ever when it comes to shooting
@@bn1342 they don’t have to outpace them lol they still will/can slow the game down cuz Steph will have to check CB or RIP they goin to the post .. same for Dray & Zaza tryna check Sheed lol
@bn1342 The series will be about defense, not offense. Warriors are too small. You are talking Iike the typical Warriors homer.
Richard Jefferson is tripping. How you gonna act like GS would just be getting those open looks against the Detroit defense. Also, he talking about how in 2015, GS benefitted from the Cavalier injuries, but then he gonna say they were on their way to a dynasty in 17. They lost to the Raptors in 2019. You can’t have it both ways, man.
Bron scored 25 straight points on them.
04 Pistons defense would’ve shut that offense down 😂 Prince would have shut KD down Ben Wallace blocking shots into the stands! No one would be able to chase Rip. Man Golden State won in an era where no one plays defense! If they played 04 Pistons they be just looking 👀 like the star studded Lakers 😮 like damn what the hell just happened lmao 🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣
Who’s guarding Memo Okur, Corliss off the bench? Also Lindsey and Mike James full court pressure in the back court.. people say who’s guarding Iggy?!? Anyone.. he doesn’t make his own shot. Great athlete but he’s not a star at this point.
2017 GS Warriors
RJ spoke no lies, GSW w KD were unstoppable
2004 pistons in 6 games
Yeah in 2k
KD, Steph, and Klay was just too much fire power for any team...lock one up and the other two would still rain on you from anywhere on the court
I'm sick of these old heads who never shot the three or ran nearly as fast as these guys now think thinking they would keep up. Bro we have EVOLVED. The average nba player in 2024 would be winning awards in 2004 for like 6th man of the year because they 3 and D way better now than they ever have.
@Oldasianguyyou do realize people hand check in AAU right😂😂😂. I’m tired of you people who never played travel basketball act like you know how young players grow up. Everybody in the NBA grew up around handcheck.
@Oldasianguy it's been that way for over two decades now, y'all act like you could
Push people around and you simply never could and hand checking ain't got shit to do with 3 pt revolution. It just helps people drive off the perimeter, great defense is still very possible you just have to be fast instead of strong and not foul. You act like y'all were playing football out there and it's fkin laughable 😂😂
@Oldasianguy I watch the old man games, the classics. Mj, magic, kobe, Shaq. The way basketball is played with analytics and people simply taking and MAKING more threes will literally run any of these old teams off the court no
Matter how many times you grab Steph currys jersey he would still dance on anyone and send your fans home crying.
@Oldasianguy
Kobe Bryant
"But for scorers like myself and Carmelo and KD, the rules from the '80s can be more beneficial for us, because you have to be played straight up. You want to double team, you got to come all the way over. So, for us, I don't care if you hand check us with three hands. If there's nobody behind you, you're not going to stop us. So the zone I think cripples some of the top scorers.”
Remember that DET team beat prime Shaq and Kobe and went back to the finals the next season and lost to prime SAS in 7.
They a 2 man team in the lakers
And the Pistons were a 5 man Team. 🙂
@@DS9megafanso we’re the warriors :) and a stupid good depth
These dudes are forgetting that benches have to play. Pistons bench was much better in ‘04 and would’ve mucked up the game by slowing the pace. Also, the Rockets had the Warriors on the ropes until CP3 got hurt. Would definitely be an interest matchup.
Bro the warriors during that run had the best complete bench. Far better than the pistons. You smoking crack
They don’t know about that pistons bench they don’t know about bob sura buckets, Mike James buckets, okur another shooter, like the pistons went 12 deep that’s what ppl don’t understand you would have to see it with your own eyes not just with no he says she says!
Not the same warriors team lol , that was the 2018 team
Just silly discussion. 2004 Detroit Pistons will do anything just to garnish some respect. No one talks about 04 pistons because that team is not even on same level as the Golden State Warriors. Just sad these old players from 2004 think they’re are the best.
Pistons in 6
Bro you funny
Soooo….. how are yall acting like KD is this unstoppable weapon. When he out here getting swept by Antman!!!! This is outrageous! We have seen what KD IS. How did Houston get to 7 games vs that same ‘17 team?? Am I missing something???? See what this is right here is the “OMG LBJ couldn’t beat them so nobody would” BS! Harden the loser was cooking them! And little ass PJ Tucker was stopping them. This is why you watch the GAMES…..
Ben Wallace would manhandle Draymond 😂😂😂 there will be no X factor for the Warriors
🧢🧢
O ball knowledge, if klay caughts fire, assuming that STEPH and KD were cold its finished
Point out 1 time Draymond has been manhandled lmao he always hold his own. 😂
@@jwilliamson-xo8nd he never played against Shaq nor Ben
@@loffomonkey7942 didn’t say they would beat them 🐱
Mr. Jefferson is spot on.
2017 spurs in the playoffs was going to beat that team so I can see that 2004 pisters team beat them
GSW vs Detroit is the wrong conversation. Detroit couldn't score enough and couldn't contain that GSW long enough to stop that GSW team. Now, the Heat, with DWade, Bron and Bosh... that team could sweep the GSW.
Whoever thinks warriors win think defense is less important than offense that warriors team was not that good defensively
🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢curry will cook this man 9 times out of 10
@@Newportnews98 based on what? Cause you said it. Curry too light in the ass. Chauncey drives and finishes through curry with the foul or just posts him up. Curry will get off shooting 30 footers but you will never win relying on that. If he comes in the paint then the law firm of Wallace and Wallace will be there.
Curry averaging 16 against them is crazy lmaoo
This is what actual ball talk looks like. The difference in talent is not out of the park. They trained to play against very different competition. When you look at the strategies available to both teams, Golden State will have an advantage. If that weren't the case, we would still see people build teams like this.
People always forget you have to play both sides... They were a matchup nightmare.
RJ keep talking about outpacing. Why would tayshaum try to outscore instead of play his game? He stuck on 1v1 matchups. The pistons were a team. They played team defense. Tashaun wouldve soent all his energy getting easy baskets and locking up kd and klay.
Even when JRich was quiet i was waiting for a stream of stats to rain down
The realist “fuck outta here” I’ve ever heard
Bruhh that roster is unfaaaaiiiir. The depth is ridiculous
Fact of the matter is hands down even with their so called Death Star 5 pistons still winning in any rule area because golden state greatest strength is also their greatest weakness!
No team is beating the 17 warriors in a 7 game series. Not the 01 lakers not the 96 bulls and especially not the 04 pistons .
These old guys need to stop saying oh we can dominate today's game oh you're not the in today's game even the bench player needs to have skills bags, shooting, handles, switching, off the ball movement, defense( two way players) etc but in old era players who had 3 or 4 abilities of the above are consider Star, no offense but the game has evolved 30+ points ahead is not safe in today's game
Pistons wouldn’t even get one game. They scored 102 points per 100 possessions. The WORST TEAM in the league this year scored 107 points per possession this year. It’s just math, yall. You don’t have to like it, but the reality is that 3>2. Go let Rip shoot his 45-50% on middies. That’s less points than going 35-40% on 3s. It would be so easy for the Warriors.
That 2017 team was wayyyy too talented and deep! They had 2 damn near 3 nba starting lineups on ONE TEAM was 4 hall of famer (the 2 best 3 pointers shooters ever and 2 top 15 all time players)… come on let’s be serious lmao
Ben Wallace scored 18 points in the closing game vs Lakers…. But a zero offensive threat.. also he grabbed 5-8 offensive rebounds a game and countless tip backs to the guards.. Richard got crushed by these pistons and didn’t learn anything.. just became a Lebron Simp
