Fae Farm is out now on Nintendo Switch!
#farming #nintendo #nintendoswitch - เกม
A game I would normally snatch up despite a few flaws, I love the genre and collect titles that explore this. But the price tag on this one has really left me on the fence, looks to be way too high for what it is.
Same here
How much does it cost
@@Emisnyan€40
@@Emisnyanor 60$ switch.
For me I didn't mind paying the full $60, more support for the devs and plus I like to think of the $1/hr rule. I paid $60, I know I'm getting more than 60+ hours out of this game. More than worth it for me. It's addicting and better than other farm sims imo
The game looks very fuzzy in handheld mode. I dont recommend people spend $60 on it if they are never gonna dock it.
This is good to know. I buy games on the Switch because it's easier to play when I only have a few minutes here and there. So 90% of my play is handheld. If I'm going to have to play this docked, I might as well buy it on Steam and save $20.
Good to know I never dock and was considering this or a different game
i never dock and i love it in handheld, i don’t think it looks that fuzzy at all? like pretty typical for a handheld switch game imo
I play on handheld and it doesn’t look fuzzy to me at all.
Xenoblade 2 fuzzy or worse?
The biggest gripe for me with the game is the price....80AUD for an indie game is insane.
I bought it for 80AUD, and yeah its definitely expensive for an indie game. For me it’s been worth it though, really enjoying the game so far
I dont really like that language "for an indie game" MANY indie studios have proven to provide better quality, polish, and finished games than a lot of the AAA studios today. Indie studios deserve to raise their prices to match their caliber of work.
@chukkaque
Oooh yes I agree
@@charlesedwinbookswell they're probably referring to whether or not this is this studio's first title it's published to make a name for itself. if it's a well-known and TRUSTED studio, then having an insane price like that is less egregious. but if it's their first game, asking people to pay that amount without any reference of other games to predict if it's going to be high-quality or not is bound to rub people the wrong way.
This is coming from someone who went to college for video game design. they're right, $80AUD is bonkers.
are you pc or switch?
I am happy with the choices they made for the social interaction. That’s usually the things I dread to do. I just wanna explore and craft and collect so this game is perfect for me.
Yeah as someone who just wants to work in my cozy game, socializing is the last thing I ever do, if at all.
On Animal Crossing not this game
I wasn’t sure whether to purchase this game at first but I’m glad I did, I’m having so much fun playing! It’s so addictive!
Great review, I'm 25 hours in and I'm loving the game. Agree with everything you mentioned.
You still play it?
I love the game so far! have encountered a few glitches where after my game crashed it put back a woolum i sold, my shipping contracts seem to be off by like 10 days (i have no clue how to fix that since it doesn't even say the different due date), but other than that i love it!
I'm 20h in and just started to explore fae world and I'm starting to feel overwhelmed and a bit stressed because there is so much to do. I also feel that the seasons change to fast, all my crops and trees are not even ready to harvest before new season arrive. After 20h I'm already done with spring, summer and half of autumm. 🙃
Wow that seems really fast. How many days per month and how long does it take to go from waking to sleep? In my experience even just getting through Y1 of stardew took me like 60 hours.
@@charlesedwinbooks I dont know how long seasons are, I didnt count but one day is only 18 minutes 🙃
I'm going to wait a few months to see if there's any sales on the game or improvements before I buy.
Supposedly there's going to be dlc between December and June (I think), atleast thats what I read on the switch shop under the description for the game.
I just can't justify spending $60 on this though as it is at the moment.
Same here :)
I feel the same, but my sister is kindly offering to buy the game for me, so I'm debating if I should refuse her offer or get the game anyways
@@bill_cipher9861its a really rough game right now, i'd still hold off on buying it til they patch stuff!! though even with patches i cant see this game ever being a must-play, its a fine distraction but its a very shallow experience that does nothing new
Same. I was baffled when I saw the game is $60. I was expecting $40 at most.
I have a feeling it will go on sale. I am holding off until then lol !
My wife claimed my switch
I also choose this guy’s Switch
Use it as an excuse to get an OLED (assuming it wasn’t already one)
Have a Pikachu/Evoli switch lying around unused, could lend it to you :)
Same here brother
looking for games for her now
Love the art style, the many many characters, the ease of doing daily tasks, and the relationship with animals and people options. There's so much to discover and I like how the inventory/almanac gives hints at what's to find and what you're working towards. Enough side quests to keep you busy. My only gripe, a small one, is a few times I wasn't sure what to do (but if you experiment with the buttons, pay attention to the in-game tutorials, and read all the available materials, it's easy enough. Happy with the purchase. Important to note the $60 price includes two waves of not yet released content. Yay for not being a stale game!
It's a pass for me. For me, this isn't worth $60,00, I'd pay $40.00 for it. I'm waiting for Paleo Pines to come out as it's just as cute and is fairly priced.
it's a ridiculous switch tax for sure. 40 on steam. might try it this weekend
@@kc-lz8gsthe switch version includes the two coming dlcs
@@kc-lz8gsit includes the dlc, they announced the price drop very close to release so may have been too late for nintendo, while the steam one doesn’t unless you get deluxe which is $20 more
@@kc-lz8gsit's not $40 on steam, it's still $60 for the same edition. Definitely not switch tax. The $60 switch version is the $60 Deluxe edition on steam. Please do more research before typing misinformation.
@@louvella-samathey have both a $40 & $60 edition on steam, switch only has the $60 version
Was shocked to see how much this game was featured at PAX west recently--they had about the biggest booth there. Weird to see for a farming life sim game. Pleased to see that it's a nice game, although I do wonder where all their funding money comes from lol
it’s been really heavily hyped, esp within cozy gaming circles online after it was shown in a nintendo direct, unsure if companies saw all that buzz and put extra funding into marketing?
@@BeyondBrii good point! also i just went to the dev's (Phoenix Labs) wikipedia, and they're owned by Garena, who is owned by Sea Ltd, who is owned by Tencent 😅they got MONEY money
Is there any chance this gets added to the vouchers or its determined before release whats in the voucher? Cuz im not paying 60$ for this even tho i want to play i need discount
I'm surprised you guys are more positive on a farming game review. I do agree with the overwhelming task and grind though, but I can't be too mad with it because everything is sooo charming! Truly a visual treat!!🧚♀️🧚♂️❤
Really? I think it's Felix that seems to really dig farming sims.
For once I see the overwhelming part as a good thing because it means I'll be playing for a long time. I'm taking it slow and easy. Only just got my wings and opened the fae realm. I have so much still to do and that makes me so happy.
@@AmandaRogersarock1988I guess maybe because it is Felix playing... Story of Seasons, Harvest Moon, and similar titles are always rated low in their reviews from what i've seen.
@@MiguiMonkey yeah I find Alex's are the worst, but I know they usually just take the written reviews and make them a video. The more streaming they do, the more it seems to be in favour of farming again.
Game isn’t that good
I preordered this and still haven’t had the time to play!! I KNOW how addicted to this I’m going to get so for the short amounts of time
I’ve had to play lately I’m just getting ready for Pokemon DLC because if I start this game now I won’t stop lol. Next week I’m hoping to dive in!! This looks like so much fun and looks like I’ll be struggling to keep my job for the next few months, thanks! Between Fae Farm, Pokemon DLC, Sea of Stars, Paleo Pines and Silent Hope I feel like the social aspects of my life will be basically non-existent, which is fine lol
You said the social aspect isn’t bad, it’s just not good. I’d like to disagree & say it’s definitely bad.
This comment made me laugh so hard lmao I agree
i bought the game after release and now im about 20h playing fae farm this game amazing so many what u need to do alot of quest and work alot of fishing and bugs to cath and the draw color everything just amazing its really fun game for who like farm, craft, animal
The biggest gripe is the social aspect? I always forget about that part of these games anyways. Workaholic Rune Factory! \o/
It’s not just the social aspect in regards to relationships. Characters are pretty much robots, repeat the same lines over and over. There are no events and only one festival per month. There’s a story with progression, but it’s nothing gripping and difficult to care about it because all the characters in this world are so lifeless. Rune Factory games have amazing characters and an equally solid story that engages you in the game
I'm with Kevin; I won't be buying the game. I'd rather play the RF3 port instead
I've been streaming this game (just chill, no chatting) and uploading the streams to youtube if anyone wants to check out the gameplay for a bit to see if it's their jam. (I hate a lot of annoying voice-overs). My brother gave me a Nintendo Gift card for my birthday on the 1st, so full disclosure I didn't actually pay the $79.99 CAD out of my own pocket.
So far, my impressions are:
-Enjoying the crafting, farming & mining. Love that the tools automatically cross over
-The relationships remind me of the really old-school Harvest Moon with a bit of Stardew Valley - games where you've heard everything very quickly. Just like Stardew Valley, you have to give gifts for those you want to date, but you have to find whatever the gift is and it always changes.
-I like the game gives you the first few quests to spell things out for the basics, but slowly starts to let you find your own way. Sometimes, the actual description of what's needed to fulfill a quest aren't quite clear, but so far anything I've encountered other people have also encountered, and have had the answer for.
-The world and animation itself are very charming
-I enjoy the collecting and challenges so far, but I've already decided I'm not really pursuing the relationships part at all. I did go on one date and while the cut scene was cute, I won't be investing a ton of energy in the marriage part. A girl's gotta upgrade her house, first!
Here's hoping for a price cut closer to Christmas or Black Friday for people to really take a chance on this game. It's truly a great little gem, though the price may be steep considering there's long-running farming sims coming out the same month. Consumers had to choose between the Rune Factory 3 remake, Harvest Moon later in the month and some other farm sims. I chose this one so far because it reminded me of Animal Crossing/Stardew Valley/the Switch Friends of Mineral Town port.
What about the co-op features?
I have it for switch. You get 2 future content updates for the price, I understand. I’m loving the game. It was totally worth it for me, (I’m not a fan of making friends with npcs)
Ugh, bad socialization was why I was disappointed with the last Story of Seasons title... guess I won't be picking this up.
Dont. It’s empty af.
im ngl i never thought i would like this kind of game. im a huge rpg player and love building charcters and getting gear and skills. however something about this game has me hooked from the quests to the dungeons to the creativity. idk what it is but i love it. was worth buying it
as a big jrpg player I'm curious, how do the dungeons/combat work? Im a huge fan of xenoblade, final fantasy, etc, but in my cozy games I usually prefer no combat at all. But felt Stardew Valley did it great, where Harvestella should've been deeper and not so basic. How do you feel about it?
@@charlesedwinbooks theres virtually almost no combat at all. now take in mind i just got to chapter 4 so the only things ive fought were in the mines. its more of a relaxing game then anything. but i think there is still more to come
I have not been able to put this down as soon as I got this. It’s so addictive and there’s just so much to do.
I'm currently debating on either buying this or moonlight peaks ( I have both a switch and steam deck) and then we also have paleo pines also coming out why suddenly this glut of farm sims??
What did you decide on?
I was thinking abou this game but, along with the lackluster social aspects, paying $70 for the Switch version when I can get it for $40 on Steam means I'll be waiting for it to go on sale on Steam.
Why does the song used towards the end remind me of Nickelodeon’s Oswald’s theme?
Also, nice review!
In Canada it's 80$! I would normally jump on a game like this but at this price tag I'm going to wait for a sale...
8 is too high a score for this game IMO. A 6 or 7 is more suitable in its current state. The characters are so lifeless it removes reason to care about the story, which is only ok at best. There is a lot of stuff to unlock but ultimately it’s one fetch quest after another and an abundance of systems. It’s missing the “soul” that games like Stardew Valley or Rune Factory 4 have. Fairly disappointing because it’s clear they put a lot of effort into the game, but missed a critical part of what makes these types of games special. My girlfriend and I are playing it but may stop soon, hoping the DLC adds unique character dialogue, character events, and additional festivals to spice up what’s there
I love the game, but I really dislike having to sleep at midnight. I feel rushed. By the time taking care of crops and animals the day is almost gone…
This is my first true farm sim. The closest thing I've played was animal crossing new horizons
Kate Gray - is she back with Nintendolife or was she just contracted to do this review? Farming sims/ RPGs haven’t really appealed to me. It seems like the one to try is Starview Valley.
Stardew is the default place to start. It’s fantastic.
i'd recommend rune factory if you havent tried it, its a spinoff of the original harvest moon series. rf3 is probably the best overall but rf4 has the most in-depth farming (both have switch ports if youre okay with... awful visuals lol, the backgrounds were upscaled with ai and they do NOT look good). pretty much all of these other farming/rpg hybrids are very heavily inspired by rune factory, so if you dont like it you'll know not to bother with the rest... including stardew valley. that game wears its rf inspiration on its sleeve, but it really dropped the ball on the rpg mechanics and the farmings also pretty basic. definitely not for everyone
I'm just doing reviews every now and again (and guides too!)
yeah i agree..it's almost perfect..they should update the social aspect of the game..
I'm surprised you didn't mention the almost non-existent festivals.... There's literally nothing that happens that's of note for festivals. I would downgrade it to a 7/10 for that...
It's waaay to expensive for such a game. I'll wait for the sale.
So what's new about this game that justifies the cost? Nothing. I'll pass and wait for Palia, Loftia, & Coral Island to come on Switch.🤔
Amazing game! My wife and I loved it!
Always like cute farm game like this beside Harvest Month!! Feel relaxe & enjoy the life itself!! 😊💖
Cannot wait to play this!
Max price should be $40 it wasn’t bad and I enjoy it but definitely not worth $60 I wish I would of waited for a discount
Waiting for a sale that may or may not happen. That's too much.
Is this like fantasy life? Loved fantasy life
I hesitated to buy game because i heard at the beginning that there are performance issue on switch. But hell I wanted to risk and got it....Oh man. This game is so worth it, and I had 0 performance issues, so it seems that they patched that as well. Game is so dope and fun that it is really best to get on switch. I would not sit on the computer and play this, I wanna make myself cozy with kids on bed and enjoy chopping dam trees and catching butterflies.
I thought this game would allow local coop. I was mislead from checking this game out months ago.
A little bit it sounds like that (even though the game looks fantastic) the developers did not understand why people play stardew valley... It's not because of the repetitive work you have to do every day. It's because of the characters. The characters make you want to hang out in that world... if the characters suck, the game is just work.
Only negative about this game is how fast the days go i wish it was like animal crossing where is sync with real time
Love the art style and generally fond of this type of games BUT I don't think I'll be getting this for C$79.99... I mean it's great but it's not BoTW or ToTK or any other Switch original so paying 80 bucks for this does not seem worth it. At this price point it is way overpriced.
5:51 I mean this is what marriage is in real life lol
This is a great review, I hate the social aspect of these games to it’s a huge plus for me😂.
This looks so dang fun, im def gonna play it !!!!!!!!
Can someone tell me why I should pay 60 dollars for this vs Stardew which is free? 😅
Well now I know I have to get this game
Excellent video, very honest
Based on what I’ve seen here I just know that I’m gonna love playing in this game.
Loving this game!!
why 11 pm? At least started 2am
its funny both stardew valley and harvestella are the only two life sims with combat that burned me and i consider a waste of money fae farm while severely lacking is still enjoyable unlike those two
What didn’t you like about Harvestella? Genuinely curious, I really enjoyed that game.
I am so glad I watched this. I got tired just by watching the review ;D I am not sure if it's a game for me then ;)) Good review!
This game is slowly scratching ‘that’ itc
Sorry to bother Felix but i really really really need to know, da you already know when you will start First Bytes Majoras Mask? 😐 i understand if you have much to do, now that you are a married man :) but nearly everyday i think about your awesome playthroug of OoT, and i really yearn for MM :)
Hey Benny! I really appreciate your interest in the Majoras Mask playthough and super glad you enjoyed the previous streams!
I am currently working on a proper video about my experience and the streams of OOT. That's where my focus is at the moment, and when that's done I'll start directing my focus on Majoras Mask. Can't promise when it will happen, but it's on my to do list don't worry.
Thank you for the nice words, comments like this just motivates me even more to keep the First Bytes projects coming in the future! ^^ - Felix
Welp i'll wait for fantasy life i then !
oh honey... fantasy life i is all but confirmed to be a low-budget cash-grab. it doesnt even look like anyone from the original is involved in development. dont keep your hopes up lol
5:44 the sugar daddy concept. 😂
Mine keeps crashing on my switch everytime the mayor says my name I cannott get past that point. $60+ for this?!?!?! Anyone else have this issue????
i came for an honest review and well all i can say is i got an honest review on the game XD
Fae Farm is actually really good tbh
I demand to marry the green haired shop owner :c
A lot of this reminds me of Hay Day, lol
I think this game should be 40
having fun with it.
I am stuck on the game?_?
The game was interesting until hearing so much to do and stale npc interaction. It explains why the game has no reason being 59.99 and including taxes.
i haven’t found anything on the level of stardew for me. it’s either too cartoonish or just looks like a ps1 game.
Pass on this. It’s empty af.
It seems cute and really fun just too expensive for what it is….
60 dollars for a farm sim that has 1/5 the content as sun haven with npc's that are so dead pan they didn't even take a whole day to dialog and you give the game a 8/10
tbh it runs so much better on the Steam Deck.
Yeah but tbh thats true for most games at this point. And in my opinion it runs well enough on switch that I don't think people should avoid it because of that.
My time in Portia
my parents disowned me
Literally only ever befriend Linus and Leah in SDV. Socializing is overrated.
Definitely been enjoying it. While the lackluster NPCs may be a downfall to some I personally don’t mind it as I just prefer the farming and other aspects more.
On a side-note, hate how every farming sim is compared to Stardew. Multiple farm sims can exist and should be allowed to exist independently from one another. Let’s not forget that Stardew itself was inspired by the original Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons
...except most of these new farming games are heavily inspired by stardew valley (and they literally only exist because stardew popularised the "cosy genre" and farming sims). hell, fae farm basically lifted stardews dungeon/cave system and barely tweaked it. not that thats necessarily a bad thing, but it makes zero sense not to compare games to their very obvious inspiration
@@nicodoe6181 and yet, I never see anyone compare Stardew to Story of Seasons/ The Original Harvest Moon which is what it took inspiration from, quite the opposite actually. Seen people call one of their recent remakes a “Stardew clone” and it’s so annoying.
@@AlexDayz stardew came out years ago, nobodys reviewing it anymore lol of course you wouldnt see people comparing it to story of seasons. nobodys going to talk about a new game like "this was inspired by x game, which itself was inspired by y game, and that was inspired by z experiences"
@@nicodoe6181 Nintendo Life literally did a review for it 4 weeks ago
@@AlexDayzagreed but tbf, stardew is actually more like Rune Factory all things considered.
This game is bad and I feel super misled by all the smaller cozy TH-camrs pre-release reviews, where they clearly got paid to hype the game up. I got this game as a birthday present on my birthday because everyone was giving such great reviews and now I have to hope GameStop will let me return it, which they probably won’t.
It looks nice but it seems like Sandrock will take things to the next level and is only two months away.
I would like to play the game but $60 is too much. I might not even like it. I’d pay $29.99 personally.
Not a single word about coop in thsi review? Bummer.
WTF?! You marry and they just loaf around? The devs should've made your spouse be able to automate those farming stuff. Geez. I guess it's better if they made you hire people so they can do all those menial stuff and you can do dungeon things. Or heck maybe hire staff to do the dungeon and you can do the farming. Would've been interesting to see it that way. Then again, the game is already good from what I gathered and read from people's feedback.
my wife left me
Don’t jump to conclusions. Maybe she was kidnapped or abducted by aliens?
Should've played more farming games
..because you didn't spend 10,000 coins.
Congratulations 😂
This game is the most basic basic farming sim out there. And the audacity to charge 60$. Im convinced they paid for good reviews, or every reviewer really only played the first 4 chapters. There are 4 games off the top of my head that are better farming sims out right now.
It was a cash grab. That’s why they’re suddenly “heads down” creating new content.
Hard pass. I find it very annoying to be forced to date anyone and everyone. I don't roll that way.
You're not really "forced" to date them, though. A date becomes available and you still have to go through the quest sequence if you want to go on it or not.
@@AmandaRogersarock1988I heard it counts an interaction is flirting even if somebody doesn’t want it though.
@@Okk681 it does, but for example I had someone flirting with me that I didn't care for, so I just didn't do the gifts etc. and in a few days, I had someone else who I was chatting with at the flirting stage and asked me on a date.
yeah, i'm not paying $60 for a $20 game.
Dont waste your money now. Wait till all the content is released. This was a quick crash grab and now the developers are scrambling to create DLC content to justify the price. The discord community is just as atrocious. Just wait if you’re interested. Seriously.
If you get married to the guy I heard get baned??
Ah sadly the flaw of the npcs is huuge in a game like this for me :/

It looks like animal crossing…
Hahahaha this glossy $29.99-looking game is $60??! Lol naaaahh I'm good!
I'll just stick with Stardew Valley 👌🏻
Not for $60. Nope.
