Cannot believe this is real!! How could the police just arrest the OP and leave her 2 week old baby in the house alone at first? They probably heard the baby crying and realised the OP wasn't lying about the baby!! It doesn't not make sense and is totally against procedure. Even if they thought the OP was lying about a baby in the house to distract them, they would still be obligated to investigate to make sure that no baby was there. And not pressing charges against the MIL, so they can settle it themselves is understandable. But, even if they didn't press charges against the MIL, their are still charges against her on the state and federal level that are out of their hands. And the authorities might pursue these charges anyways because of the serious nature. The state doesn't just drop financial fraud, or fraud against the DMV! It would take quite a lot to stop prosecution, but it is possible!! Hopefully, MIL will learn from this and how close she came to getting an all expense payed holiday at CLUB FED!!!
