Yah the design didn’t change much for many years, even our 2U-D8 looks very similar to this. It’s no wonder that Cat was able to convert Sixties to diesel engines without much effort, the drive components are huge!
@@ironman3406 Ye. It seems like the most useful thing to put there for a tractor without a dozer. But, yeah, more expensive than making a blanking plate to seal it off. Hopefully one comes across that you're able to get and use! Those early cats sound so sweet too. I can't wait to hear that engine bark off again, however long that may take.
Absolutely - I want to see as many as possible return to running condition so if my left over parts can help someone else, that’s what it’s all about. Thanks for watching sir
I was lucky in that I didn’t have to pull steering clutches or engine clutch. I would like to pull top plate to inspect steering clutch compartment and I do need new links for the engine clutch, they looked good but if you saw they started to fly apart at plow day. Having my old friends 60 in running condition to me is about my most valued possession. Keep it up, it’s more than worth the effort! 👍
We knew we had a stuck steering clutch from the start, it just seems like every time we open up a new part we find more to fix lol thanks for watching, it’ll be worth our efforts for sure!
This is one of the Cat engines I never rebuilt in my 47 years working for Cat! Interesting on how it comes apart! I use to do the connecting rod rebuilds back in in the day and never did a set of these, would have been fun to do! Keep up the good work!
Nice job with the teardown Nathan! 😁👍 Sorry to see the one piston top was damaged, but sometimes that happens while working on vintage iron. Glad to see you're making progress on the sixty. Take care, be safe and happy wrenching 🔧🔩
Hey buddy! It’ll make a cool paper weight and conversation price on my desk lol thanks for watching as always my friend. Seen your latest video and checked out that tool site, seems to be some good stuff there!! Take care, looking forward to seeing what you have in store for the yellow ford.
This was much faster and more effective - I was pressed for time to get them out - really only need a couple of the rods - because these pistons are too small for the cylinders we are going to use - thanks for watching
Yes but have to wait for winter to get the free time to do it - my summers are too busy with work to work on projects like this as I travel a lot. But winter slows down so I get more shop time.
We’re still trying to track down rings - for the 6.5” ones in this video JD D pistons are the same bore and those rings work, but for the 6.75” pistons we are using it’s much harder to find rings. Thanks for watching Pat
I would be interested in the pcu but I am so far away in Wisconsin. If you or someone you know would be heading in my direction or to the states let me know. I have a scraper which only needs one drum.
Lol that was neet you and i both said paperweight at the exact same time , actually did that with an old mccormlck deering piston on a late 20s f 30 tractor
Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks for watching Terry
Looks exactly like the rearend of my D7 17a

Watched a 60 gas on a dyno 100 hp hot roded
@@wilmamcdermott3065 was it on a channel called mog5858?

If we ever find one or can afford one I’m sure we will. Thanks for watching

Steering clutch yoke is the proper name
I like your old oil can. Perfect for working on a vintage project
They built them in the next town over from where I grew up, one of the best and longest lasting oil cans ever! Thanks for tuning in once again Matt
I like that you want to sell extra parts instead of hoarding them. Help out another restoration 😊

new rings easy to get
I’ve found a company in Canada that can custom Make them
Thanks for sharing!! You are making good progress!
Thanks Doug. We’re moving along yes, thanks for watching
Way to give love to a socket, and extension. Thank you Nathan.
Gotta use what you have to get the job done, that’s one thing grandpa has always taught me. Thanks for watching

I kinda wondered if you were a Saskatchewan boy. Go Riders!
I’m curious as to what might have been a tell tale sign that I’m a Saskatchewan fella?

Sir why didn't you let them soak in the cylinders when you removed the heads. Before you pressed them out.

Where do you get piston rings to replace the ones that are junk? Go series.
