I worked 3rd shift for over 40 years. I went to that because I was mostly awake at night and I loved it! You either love or hate night shift I found but for me I loved it. I’ve been retired now for 10 years and find I am usually up till 3 or 4 Am than sleep till 10 or 11 in the morning. It works for me

Yes!! Same here. The judgy people who say “ you sleep until 11:00” get a smile from me saying “ you were asleep at 3:00 am?” Then I wink and say everyone is different😉

I love staying up late and sleeping until 10:00 am. Been that way my whole life. It was a struggle for years while in schools, working 8-5 jobs and then with having kids. Loving it during retirement. You do what you gotta do.

I never thought I could be morning person until i discovered this channel a couple of years ago. The 2 best pieces of advice came from her in past videos
    1. Morning people don’t just pop up out of bed like a Disney princess immediately full of energy. (This was mind blowing to me)
    2. You will NEVER feel like doing it-so just do it.
These 2 bits of info literally changed my outlook & therefore my behavior. I used to be a night owl & HATED it, but now I’m a natural early bird:)

I end up being my own worst enemy if I have to get up and go to work I do, if I can sleep in sometimes I will. It comes down to the person's choice. I believe if you want to change something in your life you will! A little advice from someone who it's working for is amazing either way. Kallie you're amazing keep doing what you're doing!

All the information you just gave regarding our sleep patterns, circadian rhythms, etc., I have learned before through various credible sources; citing peer-reviewed studies, and applying science-based evidence, but I love the way you are able to extract the biggest takeaways and present them in such a concise manner. Thank you! I find it very helpful!😊

Can and should are not the same. I can function as a morning person, but I’m chronically unwell if I do. Instead of trying to force everyone into one box, it would be way better to work toward a society that supports everyone’s health needs, which are ultimately what a circadian rhythm is.

Of course and I totally agree, but unfortunately society doesn’t usually work that way. I used to work at the uni of Surrey and was part of that sleep study. I believe I am a total owl (if I do as I would prefer, I would go to bed very late and wake up much later than my job demands. But it’s very true that by being regular in your waking up time and adjusting slowly to it, your body does adjust over time. Personally I work on rewards to do it well in the morning. I prepare ahead A LOT and also take enough time to have my coffee (everything else is rushed, because I also don’t believe in spending too much time doing other things I could do at another time). 😂

WOW. I wish I had heard such a simple and concise video about three years ago. 😅 I use to be the “I’m not a morning person” type of woman. I learned all of the tips you just stated over the past three years.
    - I wake up at 5.30am every day, even weekends.
    - I have breakfast/shower/get ready
    - I alternate between going to the gym and cleaning my place/getting tasks done
    - by 8am I feel AMAZING and ready to go work.
    IT IS POSSIBLE, PEOPLE.
The hardest part is actually going to bed before early. I still need to work on that because I do think I need an extra hour of sleep at least every night…
PS- I am not a mom yet so maybe I won’t be acting so tough when that happens 😅

I found this video fascinating! I am a born night owl, and have ALWAYS had trouble falling asleep, once I get to sleep I am good. But falling asleep has always been hard, even as a baby… and I mean laying awake for 3-4 hours a night regularly trying to fall asleep hard. I have seen sleep doctors and it’s believed I may have issues producing natural melatonin. I have been taking supplement melatonin for years, which has helped greatly, but is not enough to get a good sleep pattern going and get me up at a decent time each day. All this information is so interesting and helpful.

I am also a mom of four, ages 6 and younger. I don’t have a routine quite as organized as you, but one child wakes up to poop at about 530 AM each day and that usually starts my day, haha. I sometimes get some quiet time alone first thing in AM before the kids come down, and it’s divine when the house is quiet and I can make my tea, read, or accomplish something.
“The miracle morning” was a great book on this topic. 😊

I would be considered a night owl but I definitely agree that I can set myself up for a good or bad morning with a little planning and consistency. Setting myself up with what helps me has even helped my headaches! I'm not getting more sleep or anything but waking at an about the same time everyday has helped. I get a little less sleep on the weekends but not 'sleeping in' has helped with the morning migraines! I also love setting myself up to make less decisions in the morning as I find it allows me to be more flexible in those first hours when something happens.

Most of the year I work a second shift schedule (ah academia) then flip back to "normal people" hours when classes are not in session. Over the years I have gotten some handle on my sleep schedule but just this past holiday I got myself something which is the last piece I need. A sunrise alarm clock. I sleep in pitch black and the gradual light at my wakeup time makes it much easier to get out of bed soon after the alarm.
Also, circadian is pronounced SIRcadian. :)

I must be an exception to the rule. I'm 57 and I consider myself both an early bird and a night owl. I function extremely well with very little sleep. I have found that even when I am sick, sleeping more than 6 hours a day makes me very, well, not functioning at my "peak". It has been this way for about 40 years. I often function better with only having had 2 hours of sleep than with 6, 7 or 8 hours of sleep. Last night I went to bed about 12:30am, woke up with ease at 4:45am and do not need caffeine to function or be awake. Do I get tire? Sure, I'm 57, but I am overweight, over worked and often have boundless energy without the use drugs or stimulants. And I was a single mom for most of my child's childhood. :-)
