That car is a gem. crack in frame looks like impact damage, weld it up, plate if needed, look at shocks, car might have air self-leveling suspension, and the springs on old big cars over time 'collapse' under the constant weight they bend, and lose their 'springiness' and the car sits a tad lower, not sure when or package air suspension began with.
If you take the time, effort, and a little $ and put it into that car, then maintain it, your kids, amd maybe their kids will be driving it. The old 'aircraft carriers' after about 2 owners or 5 years seemed to not get much more maintenance done, just driven until they stopped and seemed easier to replace it given fuel prices, newer mid-sized car accessories and performance, many just bought a new car and parked these out of the way left to rot.
Button in glove box is trunk release, driver seat controls on driver door,
metric speedometers did not exist in An
American cars until the 70s or 80s,
Cadillac and Oldsmobile, Buick, Mercury and Lincoln had a LOT of accessories and refinements NOT found in regular Ford's and Chevy's unless you bought a trim 'package' Like LTD for a Ford to get climate control as opposed to manual
heat and A/C, remote mirrors, cruise control, automatic headlight dimmer, power windows, door locks, etc.
Plug wires had looms from factory for routing/neatness, you can follow distributor cap to plug, or vice-versa, the 'lean-rich dial' on the carb is the automatic choke adjustment.
    Hope you love rebuilding carburetors.
Welcome to the Rochester Quadrajet 'fan' club.(some call them Quadrajunk) 😁 These cars are great, luxury cars you could maintain yourself. Unless you see verification of fresh oil, I have seen old, conventional oil with 4,000+ miles left parked for a decade, pulled the dipstick, oil looked brand new, a buddy and I carefully pulled the oil pan, and oil on top surface looked new, below that was as black as sin. All the crud previously suspended in the oil had settled to the bottom of the pan, that lower 'oil' had a very high crud content as the lighter oils were clean on top. Figured if we started it, concentrated crud would kill or shorten the life of oil pump, and various engine bearings, never turned or ran up a 'sleeping' or 'comatose' engine without pulling the rocker or cam covers unless could see full length inside with a light and mirror, scope, etc. look at oil and coolant for possible head gasket leak, plus put in fresh oil.
That concentrated sludge can take years and miles off of what CAN be a great find...And we only did a few, that due to tight budgets required engine condition to be very good, and the trans to be rebuildable at minimum.
And yeah, I AM that old I was 9 years old when I fell for these cars...😁

Cadillac introduced the cornering lamp in 1962 - located on the forward part of each front fender these lamps were touted by Cadillac as being the “latest advance in nighttime driving in ‘62” these lights operated when the turn signal was engaged and the park lights or headlights were on - cornering lights were standard equipment on all Cadillacs for decades beginning with ‘62 models - I’m sure you’ve noticed the amber fender mounted turn signals located on each forward front fender

what a beautiful car - the color is Turquoise Metallic - the very first thing to do is to find a 1962 Cadillac factory service manual - there are several for sale on ebay right now for modest cost - my preference has always been to find an original printing if in decent shape and not too expensive - having one of these manuals will answer so many questions you’ll have and these manuals are from General Motors - the interior looks to be in very good condition with the original upholstery - there are also some other very nice Cadillac manuals on ebay that describe standard and optional features - your car has the optional Guide matic Autronic Eye automatic headlight dimmer - available on ebay - more later

Soft glass (means window tint). See... (Vintage Thunderbird Repair) on youtube, he is working on a similar year Cadillac frame repair. Buy the starter, but you can rebuild one from a junkyard maybe for less. You need only find any single power window switch from a similar year, you can remove the guts (my car had tiny springs inside... careful) You take the single switch out of its bezel and put it into your 4-switch bezel. you can polish the contacts too for better operation. The plugs can be an issue too (also fidgety) may break, and need crafty fixes but doable. The power window motors usually need cleaned & re-greased but are rebuildable too. Danger! there are springs on the windows don't remove the motors alone Have someone hold the window they can hurt & trap you! You will spend a lot of time fixing non-working windows but spend no money I did that for a friends 67 (8 motors switches & plugs) it had power wing windows front & rear. It took 2 full days. Did it in the 1990s they still work. good luck! PS. Trunk release may be vacuum actuated check for hoses vs wires in the silver button in the glove box. Door locks may be vacuum too.

@@StepOneStudio If whatever I know can be of any help let me know. There is a butterfly valve heat riser in the exhaust that may be an issue it ties in with the function of the automatic choke & intake manifold, (if it is not working causes the intake manifold to overheat, causing carb vapor lock.)

Cadillac and Rambler share the same brake master cylinder. This was the first year Cadillac, AMC and Jaguar had a dual chamber master cylinder. GM didn't put the dual master cylinder on any of the other makes until it became law for 1967 and later models to have the dual master cylinder. The 1962 & 63 year model dual chamber master cylinder is discontinued. The original master cylinder had screw on caps. I have a 62 Rambler Classic that has been in my family since new.
The Atlas brand battery is a Chevron gas station brand battery. The master cylinder is the OEM style that is discontinued. My 62 Rambler Classic has the same cylinder. The third make that used the dual cylinder is Jaguar.
Champion is a great brand spark plug to use. It's better than the OEM AC Delco plugs for GM cars.
This Cadillac originally came from the USA, as the speedometer is in miles per hour.p

That cracked and perhaps buckled frame needs to be checked for being square. It might explain the doors needing adjustment. If the frame is out of square this car might be too ambitious as a first project car.

Well you did get a nice set of hubcaps and the GM SoftRay tinted glass should be worth a few bucks.. The generator was used in 1962 on GM cars without A/C; this was the first year for the alternator (37a) used only on cars with GM Frigidaire A/C.

    • @StepOneStudio
      @StepOneStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1
