Well, I was flying with Ryanair countless of times starting from 2014 for my dancing events trips all over Europe. And I have to say I like them. I know how the website works, I know their processes, what to take and what not etc and it all works for me. I want to go from A to B for cheap and they deliver! Cabin crews are mostly young, willing to joke, have sense of humour and they know what sort of airline it is (announcement like that happen for example "you can buy a water if you need, it is not for free, because nooooothing is freeeee on Ryanair"). If it was not for Ryanair I would not have so many wonderful dancing events in all these remote places in Europe which I will remember forever!

Sorry not totally true, I used to pay 500 DM (now 250 €) for Berlin-Valencia during the 90's, with luggage, food, decent legroom in the 90's. Back then the Iberia was flying MD-88 and LH already had A320's. Cockpit visits included with crews that explained me half the systems. The english tourists were flying monarch and other cheap ass airlines where flight attendants would get slapped on the ass regularly without complaning and the passengers looked more like football hooligans than. In terms of power of aquisition their ticket prices where way below the prices of ryanair today. I guess there was some sort of govermental subsidy, otherwise it think its not possible. I was involved in illegal activities on a tourist airport so I would go there 3-4 times a week and made so much cash, that I thought of getting a flat close to the airport. Seen it all back in the days. The Ryanair is just a swine carrier, poor flight attendants. The O'leary idiot says he wants to teach passengers, the guy is well under my academic grade and I would straight smack him in the face the ways he dares talking to people. There was a company called Dan Air, etc... There were a few trying the cheap price offer.

I'm a CC for Ryanair, we leave the seatbelt sign switch on for the whole duration of the flight because we do not want passengers to queue in for the bathroom due to Covid, but it does not mean that you can't walk, use bathroom etc.
In general filming is not forbidden but in a case when a CC doesn't want to be filmed she/he may ask you to stop filming so it does depend on the person. For me it's not a problem, I also take pics with passengers if they ask me. But I bet a lot of people wouldn't like to be filmed while doing their duties at work, so just try to understand. She shouldn't be aggressive though. I'm sorry she approached you this way.

Let me tell you a quick story… on a short hop from Paris to Edinburgh a poor pregnant passenger thought she was having a miscarriage. She was in severe pain and was bleeding. When we landed the arrival area was deserted (maybe because we had been delayed for several hours due to a fault with the aircraft - and arrived at 3am). Long story short, the Ryanair staff left this poor woman writhing on the floor and stated she was not their problem as they had now disembarked and she was the responsibility of the airport. I challenged them and said ‘please do something and at least call for medical support’ and they reiterated it was not their responsibility and just left her lying, crying and bleeding on the floor! Maybe it wasn’t their legal responsibility but by god the lack of compassion and unwillingness to help a passenger in distress was astounding!

Well said Jim - some of us have got to stick up for them ! It was never sold as a First Class Cruise or a Luxury Coach ride - it gets you there fairly efficiently and nearly always on time. Why not just sit down and look out of the window or read a book instead of swinging a video camera about ? We have all seen a taxi out to runway and a take-off and landing before ... what possesses these nutters to always film it ? If I was cabin crew I would be very annoyed if some anorak was forever pointing his camera at me as I was trying to work ... and depending on the size of the camera it actually could be a safety issue in the event of a sudden stop or turbulence when it could fly across the cabin and hit another passenger - so maybe she was being a bit fussy .

Ryanair don’t permit the filming of either it’s cabin crew or other pax onboard. Crew are obliged to offload any passenger who they feel is filming crew members as they could be filming security procedures that crew have onboard and making the security procedures less effective if they become widely available within the public eye. For that reason there is a zero tolerance policy of pax filming crew and the crew will implement this firmly to ensure the whole flight remains safe and secure above anything else. If the crew ask you to refrain from filming you should do it straight away as it could be for any reason that you may be unaware off. Regardless of the situation, the final decision on anything will rest with the Captain who has authority over everything onboard and if the request came from him/her then the crew will impliment it very firmly.

Ryanair has brought travel to the millions and made europe accessible to practically everyone by bringing prices so low. I flew dublin to palma last week for 44 euro return. 25 years ago i flew dublin to london for 350 pounds return. And btw, ryanair has practically forced other airlines to drop their prices so the whingers can get decent prices too. It doesn't bother me flying for a couple of hours in a slightly uncomfortable seat to save myself a bit of cash. The last time I flew RyanAir about a decade ago, never since, I had bought a sandwich and a drink onto the plane from the secure side of the airport and was told that I couldn't eat my own food on the plane, only that sold on the plane and if I didn't stop I would be arrested. I questioned which Act of Parliament was she relying on and eventually she said it was in the terms and conditions of travel. Now I know this is crazy but I had in fact printed out the terms and conditions of travel. A stupid thing to do as it is not actually good bedtime reading material and effectively reduced my cabin baggage allowance by half its weight but I handed the T&Cs to her and asked her to show me knowing full well that she had probably not read them either. At that point she brought the honcho who again argued the point despite not being able to show me what he was claiming in the T&Cs. Growing more than a little tired of this conversation I eventually told him that he had better put off at the next stop. I don't think to this day he was intelligent enough to realise that the next stop was in fact the destination.
I ate my sandwich and drank the small bottle of wine.

The cabin crew member was correct to tell you that you should not be filming during taxiing and also takeoff, they with landing are considered to be the most dangerous periods of the flight and your undevided attention is required, incase of an unplanned emergency incident and evacuation, not fiddling with your camera, time in evacuation is of the essence, she may have been abrupt but time for her is limited due to taxiing and the need to be in her crew seat for take off. Why can't passengers just do as requested by the crew and not make a song and dance about it, after all you only are required to turn up on time sit on your seat, be served, behave and get off at the other end, is it too much to ask. Please also consider the complaints the crew may get from other passengers about you possibly filming them, people are very touchy about such things after all you don't know if someone is on the flight with someone elses wife for example. If you want to know why the cabin attendant spoke to you then I suggest you apply for the job and go through the 6 weeks training, that way you will understand, or maybe you have tried and failed and are bit frustrated. I say all this as someone who has done the job for over 30 years (not Ryanair)

  • @richardp1726

Firstly I must say I would rather cancel a trip than ever set foot on a Ryan Air plane, there is nothing to like about the airline especially its toxic owner Michael O'Leary and It sounds like the member of cabin crew did not handle the issue well and should have been more diplomatic.
However there is a very fine line between filming yourself and/or your family on the aircraft which is allowed and filming the aircraft, the crew, the flight procedures and other passengers which is not. So I do get why Ryan Air backed their staff member (much as it grates with me to say that).
This is the actual wording of the regulation used by all airlines relating to this:
“Use of still and video cameras, film or digital, is permitted only for recording personal events. Photography or video recording of airline personnel, equipment, or procedures is strictly prohibited.”
If that had been me filming, I would have spoken to a member of the cabin crew when arriving on board and requested permission to film explaining what I was filming and what the film would be used for. That would have avoided any confrontation and may even have allowed for a little more flexibility in what you could film and what you couldn't.

  • @drevildog1
    @drevildog1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Somehow I cannot agree with the Flight attendants reaction. Nowadays everyone has a cellphone or tablet. And I have seen passengers taking videos or pictures of their flight. Yes we get told to set our phones to the flight mode. But the cameras keep going. But on the other hand, I checked with the Ryanair website. And as a company policy, it states that cameras, video recording devices of any type are strictly prohibited for their theater shows. So if they have the time to mention it for the theater tickets. They should specify that it also applies to the air travel they offer. And not everyone is aware of the company policy. So if it is forbidden to film in the cabin. A more civil way of explaining it would be appreciated. And Ryanair cannot defend that.

I remember as well I flew Ryanair a few years back and the flight attendant saw my camera and goes “turn it off, turn it off now immediately sir” and was very rude. He didn’t even say hello upon boarding or anything. He just stood there slouching and leaning against the wall in the galley. Then when they were coming around asking customers if they want to buy anything the same man came along, and the person who I was travelling with had earphones on and couldn’t hear him, so the flight attendant poked him in the back to get his attention. That is illegal to do and we had a good mind to report him. Although once again, I think that was just an unfortunate time we got him, as 99% of Ryanair cabin crew are very good people, who do not deserve to have a colleague like him

Well she sounds like a delightful person doesn't she? Unfortunately in recent years now I have found with some cabin crew they have no interest in the passengers or communication skills. They just want to chuck your food on your tray and serve drinks as quickly as possible so they can go to the galley and talk and laugh really loudly for as long as possible, we the passenger's are just seen as a nuisance to get rid of as soon as possible. This is my reason for disliking and trying to avoid a certain middle Eastern carrier. I'm sorry this happened to you and want to thank you for your great reviews.

Hi! I worked for ryanair as a FA for around 4 years based in Frankfurt. Unfortunately, the company is really strict with filming on board and we are not allowed to appear in videos and also we are supposed to tell to passengers to not film us/cabin/ other passengers. However, there is many ways to say this and is not nice how you were told. Just keep in mind that ryanair does not operate as other airlines and they have "weird" procedures towards filming. Also, since covid started, during the whole flight the seatbelt sign is off so people won't gather in the same spot all at once.

That flight attendant is on a power trip or something, filming passengers or crew isn't a good idea, but you didn't do that and the crew was aggressive with that. I don't understand why she even was on a power trip when she was on a budget airline with minimal training requirements.. My Ryanair experiences we're good, not bad at all.

It's not about flying skills or safety procedures. It's well documented that Ryanair has been safe and reliable. Ryanair is what everybody knows that it is. It's a low cost, no frills, reliable and safe transportation company. In this particular case, a customer, who has made several similar video's of Ryanair flights and not a peep from those flight crews, had a run in with a member of this particular flight crew. He felt wronged, reported it, and the company said screw you.
If that's how Ryanair wants to handle customer complaints, that's their choice, if that's the corporate mentality, so be it, but there sure seems to be a lot of bad press around Ryanair customer service.

      www.tripadvisor.com/Airline_Review-d8729141-Reviews-Ryanair
      www.trustpilot.com/review/www.ryanair.com
To a casual observer such as myself and 5 minutes of Google searching, it appears that Ryanair has a corporate attitude problem, which they think they can afford to have. I admit, that I am very much a "less experienced" traveler but reading this stuff, from so many different sources makes my travel provider list a little shorter. As for perceived arrogance, that's like porno, you can't define it but you know it when you see it. Seems like a lot of people have been seeing it lately. Ya'll be safe.

Of course, this happens due to the weather conditions at the destination airport - where my daughter was waiting - other airlines did not have any problems with landing. After 2 hours of waiting for bus replacement services, and then 6 hours driving. There was no toilet on the bus. It is not worth mentioning the lack of an offer - glasses of water for exhausted passengers. So NEVER again with Ryanair !!!

At 2:21 you can see someone in the row behind staring straight at you. Might they have said something do you think? In any event, given the fact that almost everyone gets a phone camera out at some point on the flight, the behaviour of the crew member is outrageous. I was recently lectured by a member of Lufthansa crew for photographing the crew and had to explain that I was taking a selfie to send to my daughter. Once I showed her she was okay though. Have flown with Ryanair on over 50 return flights in the last 20 years. That's over 100 individual flights. Never had any issues with crew. Some seem more cheerful than others. I could tell some on evening flights nearing the end of their shift are a bit narky. And I don't condone what this attendant said . But the point is Ryanair are cheap and efficient. They get you from A to B without hassle. Like a bus!
If I stopped using an airline because of one relatively minor incident, I would no longer use Easy jet, Jet2, BA,, American , United or Virgin.
If I said " I'm not flying because of this or that happening" I'd be a bit screwed for going to the US unless I go via Amsterdam or Madrid or somewhere and extend my journey by hours!

I used to flew with Ryanair more than 20 flights/year, usually between Porto and Dublin, sometimes using UK for connection. I never had a problem with Ryanair because they just fullfil their contract. Thay sign a contract with you when you buy the ticket to fly you from point A to B and you have rules for the luggage. Sometimes I even used slithly oversized luggage and no problem, because it fitted the proper place. You can say what you want about the service, but I know other companies where the service is the same or worst (I mean food, not safety). At least, you can have a decent meal there for 10 euros and the ticket didn't cost me 150 Euro :D
Now I don't fly Ryanair, not because of the airline but, due to my job, I don't need because Ryanair doesn't serve Munich (No... Memmingen is not the same), but if I need to fly Ryanair to go to different places, yes I will. At least I know one thing when I fly Ryanair. The odds to arrive late are very low.
