Another lovely video, Joe. Strange that us plant lovers tend to be into rocks as well haha. Minerals, gems and fossils is my other passion, too. I’ll likely add some cool rocks to my plants once certain ones are put into nice pots. Thank you for sharing with us. Have a wonderful weekend and happy growing 👍🏻🌵☀️🌼🏜
Thanks Daz, very happy to hear you liked the video 👍😊 And that is sooo funny, actually brilliant, that you too are into rocks, minerals, etc !!! 🤩 What a cool coincidence, and you are right there are indeed quite a few folks who are into both succulent plants as well as rocks, probably a shared love and interest for unusual and bizarre shapes and forms of nature 😅👍🌵🌼 You should definitely post those plants once you have repotted and combined with cool rocks too! Looking forward to hearing of your experiences and thoughts 🌵🌵 You have a great weekend too, happy growing!!👍👍😎
@@cactusjoe Now how did I miss this one? 😲 I'm very badly into rocks too 🙄😄 I lost most of my collection when I was homeless but still have all my meteorites. I've been collecting again since I landed in Kent, I have a collection in the cactus house that I'm planning on doing a small vid for my other channel. I've even found the KT boundary on the coast nearby here, the layer where the asteroid hit that wiped out the dinatrons 🦕
Hi Ziggy!! WOW, that is sooo COOL, Ziggy, to read that you too are a big Rocks, Minerals & Fossils fan by the sounds of it!!!!👍👍👍😍🥰😊 ...I had no idea!! Fantastic that you have your meteorites still, but so sorry to read about losing a large part of your former collection! And you are a KT-boundary geek too, wowsers!!! You have such wonderful, unusual rocks…I’ve been picking up rocks that are interesting to me since I was a kid, and have been putting them in the pots of some plants so I can enjoy both plants and rocks. This was a very enjoyable video! 🗿🌵🤗
Aww, thank you, that's so nice of you to say! And also fantastic to read about you having the same hobby as I have had all my life, collecting unusual rocks! haha, that is so cool to read that you have been the same, since you were a kid! Nothing nicer than a beautiful combination and staging of unusual plants with unusual rocks, haha! I am so glad that you enjoyed this video - it was one of my very first ones, and video editing skills were still so much more of a huge challenge to me, lol! Thank you for watching my videos and brilliant that you are finding them interesting and useful. Wishing you a terrific Thursday, take care and happy growing / rock collecting of course!
I'm all about " staging " I think it really makes the plants stand out!! I use also fossils & arrow heads. The arrow heads are finds from caves & farm fields here in the Ozarks. We also have some very interesting rocks that have many holes allover often with quartz crystals in the holes. You have some great examples of cool rocks to use in staging!!!!! Thanks for sharing Joe!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌺🌿🌻🪴🌹🌲🏵🌳🌷🌴😃👍
Many thanks Clyde, really appreciated, and I 100% agree with your comments about "staging" our plants! SO INTERESTING to read that you actually find and use arrow heads from your area, thats really amazing!! Thanks for watching and for your awesome comments! Enjoy your week ahead, best wishes, take care and happy growing!! 🌵🌵🌵
Hi Cheryl, I'm super happy that you found this video interesting and inspirational! I am a huge fan of nicely displaying and staging of our wonderful succulent plants - I find it makes them look even more interesting and beautiful! Wishing you lot's of success trying this out in your own collection - let me know how it's all progressing, and also do not hesitate to revert if you have any questions coming up! Love the idea of combining plants with stones. I have quite a collection of stones , quartz and stuff as I'm also interested in the healing ability of stones. I have and still are into them for about 30 years. A lot of my stones are in boxes so I will have a rummage around to see what looks good with my plants. Thanks again for an interesting and inspiring video and thanks to Lyn Kimberley who introduced me to your channel
Hi Bernadette, many thanks for watching and for your wonderful comments!! Very happy that you enjoyed this video!! And that is REALLY very cool that you have such a large collection of stones and minerals - indeed, I'm sure you will discover quite a few attractive combinations with your plants too - as I said in the video, I am huge fan of nicely staging and displaying both plants, as well as stones - so why not combine, LOL? Indeed, Lyn and her channel are AWESOME, I am a huge fan!!! And I'm also delighted to hear that you are finding some of the videos on my channel useful! Hi again, Joe. I got a video coming up soon on a plant I potted up and staged, I was wondering if it would be ok if used a little bit of your footage of staged plants in my video to show people some examples? Thank you my friend and thank you for the inspiration to stage one of my plants 😊🌵🌼☀️🌸🌺🏜

@@kimhignite6521 thanks Kim, very nice to read, glad you liked the video, be sure to check out Daz's on his Cactimania channel too, great stuff! Yeah, I bet you can find some really cool rocks around the Lake! Happy staging!
I loved this! Very inspiring! What makes these concepts hard to execute becomes really hard in a small, 4-5 inch container. It often looks like just a rock plopped next to a plant and never achieves the look of a real miniature landscape like your shelf or an outdoor garden can achieve. The scale becomes more accurate when you can add more space. I think I need to look for miniature rocks that look like giant boulders, so when I place them next to my plants. they look like a natural outcropping around the plant only on a miniature scale. I'm going to be using some Haworthia chloracantha var. denticulifera that naturally grows in shallow rock crevices or rock ledges. I'm getting a vision...
That's fantastic, Terry! Very happy that the video was able to help and inspire you with some thoughts for own concepts. It really is all about just trying out a few things in this space, experimenting a bit, etc and then you will find what works best for you! It was always a dream of mine to have a little mini landscape, cacti and rocks combined, which is what I had worked on for many years ....before I had enough of the experience and ingredients to finally put the one together that I now grow and cultivate in my greenhouse. Best of luck in realising your vision, and do keep me in the loop! And if questions come up, please don't hesitate to ask other growers or me!

Almost all of my succulent plants are in bonsai pots. They've got rocks, mud men and the occasional ceramic items. I wander beaches , streams looking for unusual rocks to use.
Haha, I love it, that is fantastic, Dave! Great to hear that there are more like-minded folks like us out there! Indeed, I too have quite a few miniature figures (including a group of chess players, a few fishermen, some dogs and cats, etc.) hidden away and living in between my cactus and succulent arrangements too, lol!! Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Really interesting! I'll definitely try this out myself and be on the lookout for interesting suiseki style rocks. I was wondering, are there any stones that could harm the plants, or even if any would be beneficial in some way? Or because it's just placed on top of the soil is it quite safe to use any stone that has been cleaned?
Hi Ruby, thanks and great question! Indeed, in my experience the vast majority of hard stone (or rock) types are quite safe and can be used once they have been properly cleaned with normal, plain tap or rain water (no detergents, soap, etc). I would avoid using softer, especially chalky stones as these will naturally dissolve much faster over time - and usually change, i.e. worsen the alkalinity/quality of the soil your plants are growing in.
