Every time I listen to "Hey lover" I feel a sense of calm.. With all the pressure and sadness I go through in life, this is most definitely my comfort song. It makes me forget about all evil in this world and just focus on the happiness of life. How did you guys make such an amazing song? I sing myself and I just love singing to this song.. love you guys

I am hoping that this will ease and you will be able to feel the beauty of nature, and the innate love and goodness inside of yourself and most others. Thank you for writing. We did not write this song. Our manager asked us to learn it and record it, but we cannot take credit for the writing. Our amazing lead guitarist and singer, Judy is the one who brings the spark of lightness to this. The pure sparkle of her personality comes right through this 58 year old recording……bringing joy and smiles to all the fans of today. This song inspired me to reconnect with the love of my life immediately following the death of my mother. Even if nothing comes from it, she knows how I feel and we're still talking a month later, so hopefully that trend continues. Your song is still inspiring love 60 years later

I am very sorry to hear that you lost your Mom……as that is so difficult!! I lost my Mom almost 35 years ago and I still think of her all the time. In fact, if I ever have a difficult decision to make, I always factor in what my Mom might have said…almost like I can still hear her thoughts. @@KR3T1 Thank you for your comment. We never ever reached (or even came close to) the amazing talent and popularity of the Beatles. But I am so flattered that our music, after a 50 year hiatus, came back to touch the lives of today’s young people! That is quite amazing when you think about it. I’ve never been to Austria….but would love to see it someday. Such amazing music history from your part of the world!!! ❤️

Thank you for writing, and I am happy to answer your questions. The Daughters of Eve was formed near the end of 1965 and stopped performing in 1968. I, (Andee the original bass player) had left the band in 1967, and was replaced by 2 other bass players. A year later, two of the bandmates, Marsha and Judy, left the band to get married. At that point, the band just fell apart. None of us looked back and we all moved ahead to where our lives would take us. In truth, the Daughters of Eve records were not promoted nationally, so, outside of Chicago and the Midwest, we were not in demand. In the music business, so much depends on how a band is promoted, and our manager did not have national status. We are all stunned that young people of today are our real fans!!!! Thank you so much for being one of them! ❤️
Hello, Just heard this on a FB Reel someone used your song so I looked up the lyrics. My friend came out from the other room saying "Who was that"?.What a catchy tune.Nice harmonies and sound. Make a comeback. Most of today's music is crap.
You are so sweet to have written. Couldn’t agree more…..today’s music makes me stressed! A young fan just told me that “Hey Lover” makes him feel happy and peaceful. We ladies, in our 70’s are enjoying our lives too much to head out on the road. At this point, it’s just nice to connect with our fans. Where are you writing from?

I was privileged enough to be an original fan. And I had a huge crush on Debi (who we called Dee Dee at the time) because she was cute AND played drums! Loved this band and love the memories.

@@DaughtersofEveOfficial You're most welcome. And speaking of holidays, here's a memory for Debi. In the church Christmas show around 1966-67, she had her kit set up on her dad's altar and did a heavy rock version of "the Little Drummer Boy". I've never forgotten that - sticks flying everywhere!

Hi! Yes, I’ll be responding to comments and questions from fans for as long as I’m capable. Your question is awesome!!! When we made our records (in the mid- 1960’s)….there was no internet, and the term “viral” only referred to having the flu or pneumonia. Our music was only played on one radio station, WLS in Chicago. WLS had a fairly large circle of broadcast in the Midwest, but that was the only area where our records were sold. We played gigs in those areas, but mostly in venues that were on the small side. There is no way we could have possibly imagined that in the future there would be ways that our music could be heard on demand in nearly every household on the planet!!! That would have been science fiction to us back in the 60’s!!!! That we now hear from fans all around the world is miraculous and that our song Hey Lover is known by most teens around the world is a shocking surprise!!!! Thanks for reaching out…..and happy to hear that you are loving the music!! Music certainly is magical. ❤️
I was at the Keane show at The Anthem in Washington DC this past Thursday. Holds about 3000 people, and Hey Lover came on while we waited for the band. And the ushers were dancing and I told my daughter, "This is a GREAT song". Beautiful and just wanted to let you know people are still hearing and appreciating it.

Love you guys! 65 years old man. Love your originality, innocense and spirit. Grew up pkaying drums/ percussion in 70s early 80s. Recorded a couple albums in highschool (classical music) but rock n roll was in our veins. Lost a few rockstar friends in later years. God spared my life. Pulled me out of the music industry. Broke my heart not to pursue my passion for playing drums professionally.

Hey, you’re almost as old as we are!!! 😂. Most of today’s fans are under 30. Thanks for writing. Yes, life pulls us in all sorts of directions, and for all sorts of reasons. In many ways, I (Andee “Bass”)….am thrilled that life pulled me in the direction of teaching piano and guitar to hundreds of young people over my 45 year career of teaching. Celebrate what your life was…..and get yourself a nice little set of drums and look for a little band to jam with. It’s never too late!

I (Andee the bass player) sold the Hofner to the bass player in the second all girl band I was in, “The Weaker Sex”. I played lead in that band. Debi still has the drums….and still plays them very well.
Just found this song today by chance and I’ve honestly already lost count how many times I have listened what a track! Yet another reason I feel like I grew up 40 years too late, music like this makes me feel nostalgia for an era I never had a chance to live 🥲💙

Absolutely adore this song! Im 27 years old from GB, known this song for a few years now. When i first heard it i really thought it was some modern band going for a retro sound; It really sounds like some dreamy shoegaze song very in place with all the stuff i listened to in my late teens early 20s.
So glad people of generations past were able to listen to *absolute bangers* in the sense that i am familiar with.

Anyway, I don’t know how the younger generation found us…..but they did, and now we are hearing from people around the world at this stage of our lives (we’re all in our 70’s now). @@Iorel_03 Thank you for writing to share your experience and the feelings you have listening to “Hey Lover”. In many ways life was more simple back in the 1960’s when “Hey Lover” was made. No computers, internet, cell phones, or the hundreds of stations available on cable TV. This gave us more time to connect in person with our friends and family, and to be more active….rather than spending time looking at a screen. Our music sources were a handful of radio stations, our vinyl records, entertainment shows on the 4 or 5 TV stations we had available, and the monthly issues of teen magazines. As kids, we didn’t worry about school shootings…only about passing our school exams and socializing at school events. Still, there were tensions in the world. There were wars and assassinations, and fears. I feel so good to hear that our song brings visions of a beautiful time for you. I hope this will encourage you to share love and kindness in the world so we can work together for a more loving world. ❤️

Listening to "Hey Lover" truly transports me to a different time, where i feel the pace of life seemed more beautiful and connections more authentic.
It makes me happy to know that music can unite generations and inspire positive changes. Your message motivates me to continue being a good person and to share love and kindness with others. Although sometimes it is difficult, I will not let that flame go out.

@@carolbarnes3212 Thanks for writing!!! Nice to hear from a Chicagoan. Yes, you would have heard this song on WLS back in 1966!! The Daughters of Eve were the sister band of The Buckinghams. Both bands managed by the same person. Needless to say, the Buckinghams achieved national fame and our band came and went in a short time. In the last 5 years, this song achieved popularity with a whole new and young generation on TikTok. The 4 original Daughters of Eve are all still alive, one still resides in Chicago. I am Andee, the original bass player, and I live in California in the Bay Area.

@@nyrbeeluvdbeatles Excellent Question! Thanks for writing to let us know that you’re enjoying listening to our songs. We were between the ages of 14 and 16 when we recorded Hey Lover. You can do the math on that to come up with the answer that we are all in our 70’s now. It’s been a real treat for us to be able to communicate with our new young set of fans. In 1965 we didn’t have the luxury of being able to communicate with our fans over the internet. Life was so different back then!!!

@@richardornelas4052 Thank you for your note. The band never received national notoriety, was poorly managed, and one by one the girls left the band. I was the first to go….and was replaced. When the lead singers left the band, the band fell apart. We all went in different directions and lived our lives. It wasn’t until all of us had reached our 70’s that that today’s young people found our recordings and made them popular on TikTok. There are many photos floating around, no videos of our band…and that is the story. However, out of the 4 of us originals, I’m definitely trying to connect with everyone who writes.

@@glowinggirlshayee Thanks for the note! Hey Lover and Stand By Me were released as a single “45” in 1966. Hey Lover was side A and the cut played on the radio…..and side B was Stand By Me. Neither was what you would call a “hit” back in the day. Apparently, our fans weren’t born yet!!! 😂

Only 17 and I love this song so much, really does appeal to everyone. Ever since I heard it I was hooked & am currently working on learning it, though im not very good im still trying. @DaughtersofEveOfficial if you want to try to connect with more modern music, try looking at indie rock bands. When i first heard this song, i thought it was a modern indie rock song. You may like the band "cults". A lot of my love for modern indie rock is that much of it has the soul and even sound of 50s and 60s music. My favorite indie musician is snail mail. I love all kinds of music. I grew up listening to 50s and 60s music with my grandparents, my dad really liked classic rock. My mom liked modern rock and electronic. I like all of these, some more than others. But my big loves now are progressive metal, indie and all kinds of electronic music. I'm 31, originally from Michigan, now living in Tennessee.

I’m from Cyprus, a Mediterranean island, and I now live in Athens, Greece. I’m going through a particularly difficult time with my studies at university - it’s the exam period - and listening to your song for the first time this morning had given me all the energy I needed to find inner tranquility and peace, perseverance to keep going!

Hello to you in Athens! One thing I have learned in life is that we are never late……we always arrive at the exact time we are supposed to. In the case of the Daughters of Eve, we recorded this song in the 60’s and here it is almost 60 years later and the music is finally finding our fans. Such a crazy story!! Anyway, your studies are bound to stress you out at times, but just know that your growth as a human being comes not only from knowledge…..but from learning to persevere. You will look back on the tough times and they will end up being the times that form your character and empathy for others. I am thrilled to hear that our music brought you the energy to keep going. your music is truly amazing. you guys have all inspired me to start playing the piano as i love music thanks to you all. any advice on sight reading and music theory? i really love you guys💖

Nice to hear from you. Piano was my first instrument, guitar second, and then I became the bass player for the Daughters of Eve. I have taught piano and guitar for over 40 years. I think music theory is completely awesome, fascinating, and the key to being able to understand how music is constructed. Sight reading?? Just practice reading and playing everyday….eyes on the music, not on your hands. Start simple, gradually making the sight reading more challenging little by little. Make reading and playing fun, and ease up on becoming frustrated. Just keep at it….and learn to have fun repeating over and over and over until you get the result you want. Electric bass?? Start by playing a major scale on G, A, C, D, E. Then progress to a blues bass riff. You will need to work up the callouses to toughen up your fingers. Again, the key to success is to practice over and over. And also listen to bass lines on the music you enjoy. Try to copy them. Good luck!!! What city are you writing from?

@@DaughtersofEveOfficial thank you so much!!! it is really pretty, every time i get to play it i get lost in its beauty. i do have a piano teacher assisting me throughout the piece! i’m a senior in high school (12th grade) and ive been playing piano for 4 years now, id say im a bit advanced now. Since im busy with school work and also STEM related things i dont get much time to practice at home, id say about 4 hours!

Hey 19 year old male here, this song was very important to me. I discovered it at a bad time in my life when it came to relationships with those around me and the line of true love and understanding made me realize that there are a few key fundamentals I now look for in people. At first I thought you were a new band and Hey lover was released in 2021!! lol. Love the eclectic style of the song and lyrics. It seems to have lots of choruses and refrains. Never heard anything like it. Drums are pumping too. I can imagine Taylor Swift covering this and you'd all deserve the credit and royalties!
Thanks! We didn’t write this……but our recording of this song has been popular for more than 10 years now. We recorded this back in 1966….and it wasn’t a hit at all back then. Unfortunately, we are not getting any royalties at all. But we do hear from fans and of course, I write back because it’s so nice to learn about the people that ARE our fans right now. Back in 1966 there were not sound video cameras…..so we have absolutely no video clips. In fact, my Dad (I’m Andee the original bass player) hired a photographer to take pics at this gig. All the rest of our pics are just for 8x10 glossy publicity photos. Debi the drummer is a tiny little person with a dynamic drum power. Would love for Taylor Swift to get involved. 😂. Maybe we’d actually get paid!!!

In my opinion, (BTW, I am Andee the bass player)…Judy Johnson who sang lead on Hey Lover and was the lead guitarist REALLY made this song!!! She was also tremendously fun to work with. On stage, she and I stood next to each other….and her personality had me smiling and laughing throughout most performances.
