In today's video I visit Taichung Mosque and Luce Memorial Chapel to get a sense of how religion is practiced in Taiwan.

原來永春國小的校舍建築這麼夢幻，而且風格竟然和緊鄰的清真寺這麼搭配，這樣的風景好看得要命，而且這個國小並不是為了認同隔壁的宗教才蓋這樣，只是單純想要和它一起在同一個街區一起有型的Mix and match !

東海大學比一般私立大學的學費都貴，除了有教堂跟乳牛，教學一般般。

Note that the architect 貝聿銘 is well known in the west as the great Chinese-American architect I. M. Pei (1917-2019). The chapel may not be as well known as his many other award winning designs, but it's a definite must see for visitors to Taichung!

Great video as always Lewis, very interesting to see the inside of a mosque in Taiwan, especially when Islam doesn't constitute a large proportion of religion in the country.
As a Muslim myself, I am delighted. And the fact they were enthusiastic to show Lewis around was fantastic. Now I know where to go if I ever make my way to Taichung

@@YGZ What I found more interesting is the result of Taiwan's Covid policy where they were able to pray side by side as they should be. Meanwhile, in Malaysia and even in Saudi Arabia, praying that close together has only been recently allowed

There’s also a Chabad in Da an District, Taipei City 106 if you were interested, usually they are at a hard do find places in china for obvious reason, that’s not the case in Taiwan…

Weirdly, I only found out recently about some of Taiwan's Mosques in Taiwan. There are plenty of Churches of course.
Tbh, Dao Jao or Taoism is not something I know alot about.
This demonstrates two things: 1 My ignorance, but also 2. That the main religion of Taiwan is not in anyway forced upon others.
This may well be, as you say, because the right to worship whatever God you please.
Sadly, this could change if Xitler has his way.

btw, the major problem in religious affairs in Taiwan is not about tolerance or diversity, it's much more about the corruption in its organization, such as tax evasion and problems of fiscal transparency.

還有一個特殊的事情是跟宗教有關係的
我們家沒有真正的信 佛教 或天主教
但是 佛教開的幼稚園 或天主教的幼稚園
是我 跟我姐姐 小時候學齡前的上課的第一站
其中 也有讀到您片頭影片的東海大學的姐姐
基本上 家族祭拜習慣偏道教 跟祖先的 傳統家族宗教觀念
這點也是宗教很自由的理由之一吧

If only all of China had Taiwan’s style government. The world be such a better place! I also understand why previous western leaders believed that Mainland China would end up like Taiwan if they only had the the right guidance. However Mao’s Marxist-Leninist government is just such an unbelievably destructive cancer. I haven’t totally lost hope but I certainly have less hope. The polarity of Taiwan and China boggles the mind.
