You did great on these flights, well done. And kudos for the Donkey Kong Country music 😊 My F-14 arrives next week from the EU warehouse so wish me luck.
Kudos for sticking it out. I've already been put off on this one. Try lower the landing starting altitude a bit. Flaps might have been a bit much for that wind. Keep some power in at the end. Fly her to the ground. Don't let her get too slow or she will drop a wing.
I bought some "LED Chips" like these: www.aliexpress.us/w/wholesale-5W-High-Power-LED-Chip.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.search.0 And the LED lens kit for the bigger F-14 from Motion RC: www.motionrc.com/products/freewing-80mm-f-14-led-light-covers-fj308110912 I then soldered some wire and connectors to the LED chips, cut a groove in an existing panel line on the vertical stabs, then ran the wire inside that groove, black wire facing out so it wasn't noticeable. On the control board for this plane, there are some extra/open ports for LED lights. You can plug the LEDs into the strobe ports on the control box and they will blink as shown in my video. It's just basic DIY stuff with a bit of soldering. It wasn't that difficult once I had the LEDs wired up.
Congratulation on the re-maiden. My earlier comments on your first flight that the C.G. marking "maybe wrong" has turn out to be correct. Wrong marking or even the absence of C.G. marking on M.I. C. foamy is not new. The other problem which I quickly resolve before gluing in the foamy parts, is to check adequate space for all airborne equipments . I would hollow out the foam further before glueing the various parts. Wish you more sucessful flight in future.
Good review! It seems pretty clear that if you balances only at the wing CG, it seems to be tail heavy. That can explain several films that I have seen that the F14 flies like a dolphine. And if you also use flaps, and that seems to make the airplane pitch up a little (even if you set up everything right) it will be very hard to handle in the air. I don’t have this f14 but i could be my next on the list. So good to know!
I am 4 flights into my plane and I have the same experience. It just flies odd or maybe it’s just an f14 thing. I’m making small gains as well and it’s coming around I guess! Good video!💪
I finally got it dialed in after numerous flights. My only issue now is that it still wobbles a lot when my wings are swept. However, with wings out, the plane flies well now. However, it REALLY hates landing with the nose up. It's important to not flair much on landing or she'll dip that wing!
The gyro I am referencing in my video is only to mitigate external influences like wind. SAFE is a more beginner-oriented gyro setup that keeps the plane level and "easier" to fly. My gyro is only there to help reduce how much the plane gets pushed around by the wind and will not autolevel the plane.
Cg is 40mm behind where the wing leading edge meets the body. See manual. And i always check cg inverted gear up. Although sometimes gear should be out and then plane right side up. Pity they dont mention this. I am assembling mine as we speak and i will take note. Normally nose heavy will not cause flight issues, but tail heavy will cause plane to fly irratic❤
I 3D printed new pilots for this using this STL file. www.thingiverse.com/thing:2970724 I modified it so that they had visors and obviously painted it myself. I then just carefully pulled up the plastic canopy from the fuselage, put the pilots in and then use a little bit of glue to resecure the canopy back onto the plane.
Hey ! I totally agree about that CG !! I'm going to use the marks on the fuselage. Did you see the assembly video from FREEWING ? Not motion .there isn't any talking but the put notes on the screen and say they recommend using the fuselage marks . I think everyone is putting the battery too far back
On RC groups, one of the freewing engineers actually responded to me in one of my videos sharing that free Wing assembly video you mentioned. It was only then that I realized there were actually CG marks on the fuselage.
@@ShadowVFX it definitely looked like it made a big difference! And I think those flaps cause some issues too think I'm gonna try half or none depending on the wind . Your no flap landing was great !! Thanks for putting the content up hope others see it
You have two gyros in your F14. Which one are you more comfortable with? I'm going to bypass the E20 for the control servos on my 14 and fly the AR8360T receiver gyro.
I wish I could tell you, but I just dont have enough flights to make that determination, and until I get a day without turbulent wind to fly, it'll be hard for me to know. Hopefully in the coming weeks I will have the chance to make that decision.
Mine (unflown as of yet) balances right where yours does in this vid. I suspect that the CG was indeed too far aft in your first flight. The poor wing profile at the tips (only) probably led to your poor roll stability while fighting the CG issue, but it still looks like a wobbly goblin while swept. Lots of folks complaining about the stock gyro in this regard
I have the 80mm twin , im really thinking on this one , i like it because of the size , but it also took me afew to fit myself skills on to the 80mm , but this one has a different kinda headache it seems to be . The wing load on this one maybe sets me to pullaway from deciding much on this because i don't want to find myself doing mods to this and it's pricey as it is already. That's what sucked me into this hobby as it is as the years went on .
I really like the 80 mm version, but I also prefer smaller aircraft and when the 64 mm version came out I swooped on it. But I am finding this one much more Twitchy and requires a much higher level of pilot competency to master compared to the larger one. Just keep that in mind when deciding your purchase.
Also nothing wrong with the gyro on it, have it both times on and off, you do got to keep speed up when landing also try the SAFE version on landing , will stop the tipstall if your to slow
Because I wanted an all-in-one gyro/Rx unit and the only other 10 channel option is the Spektrum AR10360T, which costs literally 3x as much. There are no other all-in-one units that are 10 channel on the market currently.
I did the maiden of my friends, he was using a 6s 4000mah and had the lipo sitting with end lining up with the rear Hatch. Cg was perfect. The roll rate we had at 80% was way to much . We don't fly Spekjunk, we use Radiomaster tx16s with either Flysky rxs or ELRS. I would never trust Spekjunk in my expensive planes
shut up! spektrum bashing all time over social media. no one cares that you fly radiomaster instead. dont have to post it on everyone that does use spektrum.
One set of CG marks are for wings out and one set is for wings swept
According to…who please? That info is not in the manual or Freewing’s assembly video. Thanks.
@@robsrc2018 well your 100% wrong dumb dumb

Thanks and good luck! Hopefully this video (and so many others by other pilots) lead you to success.
Very useful information. I will receive mine soon.
Glad it was helpful!
THANKS for the info !!

That seems a lot Better than the first one

Yes it’ll drop a wing in a hurry. I did it twice on the maiden. Luckily I recovered it. I appreciate the info tho. Thanks
what is the function of the gyro? Is that equivalent to the "safety" mode of the Eflite f14 twin 40mm jet???

I’d recommend cutting your flaps to half of what they are now and add some down trim on the elevator. You will get this thing nailed down!
agree with putting in some downtrim when the flaps are deployed thx for the video
My Tomcats have the CG on the wing pivots. (Starmax, 80mm)
Is the only change you made adjusting the cg to be more forward since the maiden ?
Cg is 40mm behind where the wing leading edge meets the body. See manual.

I think your 2nd approach with flaps was too steep? So the inertia increased the velocity and caused the flaps to generate quite a bit of lift ?
How did you add the back seat pilot? What pilots did you use?
I 3D printed new pilots for this using this STL file.

I haven't flown mine yet it's been such crappy weather here in Illinois

No. Gyros do not prevent stalls.
Exhalent diagnosis and problem solving.
Thank you.
Why did u use the lemon if u didnt care for design ? Find that odd

This jet has so many things that need to be Inproved freewing needs a v2 and take v1 off the market.
You land like my friend, no flare 😅
Not weird read up on flap in a widy situation its a no no Butbyou brought her in great on no flap landing
I think you should have stayed with original setup and just fix the CG. Glad it went good though, good job
Those Amerial rxs are garbage, that's why they don't sell them anymore, yes they are lemon rxs except they were reprogrammed for Motion .
Get rid of admiral
It's not a good jet
