- Google DeepMind’s newly launched AlphaFold Server is the most accurate tool in the world for predicting how proteins interact with other molecules throughout the cell. It is a free platform that scientists around the world can use for non-commercial research. With just a few clicks, biologists can harness the power of AlphaFold 3 to model structures composed of proteins, DNA, RNA and a selection of ligands, ions and chemical modifications.
AlphaFold Server will help scientists make novel hypotheses to test in the lab, speeding up workflows and enabling further innovation. Our platform gives researchers an accessible way to generate predictions, regardless of their access to computational resources or their expertise in machine learning.
Experimental protein-structure prediction can take about the length of a PhD and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Our previous model, AlphaFold 2, has been used to predict hundreds of millions of structures, which would have taken hundreds of millions of researcher-years at the current rate of experimental structural biology.
AlphaFold 3 model is a Google DeepMind and Isomorphic Labs collaboration.

It is dual use, not all what comes of it maybe good for us. The only thing usually what nations had kept them from using certain bio weapons, was that they couldn't controll the outcome in aspects to their own population. This might give some people the impression this might now have changed, which i doubt, but hybris is somewhat of a human trait often to be encountered. One could only hope that with the recent experience of covid, who ever conciders anything will be sane enough to not go down certain roads.

I can hardly believe this. I remember contributing bits of my crappy laptop CPU in 2002 to the Usyd protein folding modular supercomputer. Molecular biology has just evolved by a quantum leap

I am seeing all the hype and excitment about this but still fail to understand what the revolutionary aspect is or how we will see its benefits. Can someone explain and maybe put it into context of other important medical breakthroughs?
Most of cancer is misfolded proteins. Sincr proteins are huge clumps of atoms forming a complex molecule. All The atoms of one protein have influence on each other causing them to twist and turn eventually becoming relaxed. The issue is there can be many possible relaxed states and until now predicting those states was computationally insane. Supercomputers simulated atomic forces in brute force manner (with some optimization) to solve this but now this ai can just predict with far less computations becuase it has been trained on known solutions and it has inferred general patterns.

Okay, can you tell me what to do with the downloaded structure? I am not a researcher.
@dr.akshayprakash5735 it depends on your goals. One thing is not knowing the structure of a protein and now having a predictive model that outperformes all others in terms oof accuracy. You might want to develop a drug that targets this protein. This you can only do if you have information about its structure.
Or you don't know what the protein does at all. By knowing it's structure you might infer something.
You might also want to engineer the protein, meaning changing its design to perform a specific task or to not perform it anymore (in case of a protein that causes desease)
To name only a few examples.
