Man I remember this way back years ago man, back when I was still pretty young on my ps3 playing the game with my older brother on co-op and then playing the game all the time, I think I nearly completed everything in the game more than 4 times because I just could not stop playing it man, brings back some nostalgia bro, and it kinda brings me back to gta 4/5 and bully just the pure chaos and fun you could cause was great 10/10 game series from me.

Never say never! Resurrection is always possible, we’ll never have a Volition Saints Row game again, but that doesn’t mean another developer couldn’t create something just as good. Perhaps one day we’ll get something as good as Saints Row 2, perhaps, something even greater :3

Well, you learn the explanation by the end is that he's just an actor playing the part, so it's not retconned, it just seems odd. And it's not coming out of nowhere, since they do actually mention in the beginning of the game that they were in the process of creating a Saint's movie. That's the whole point of Josh Birk being with the gang during the 'Publicity Stunt' which went wrong - he wanted to 'get into character.'
