Tugu Batu Pahat tu dibina pada tahun 1994 bersempena ulang tahun 100 tahun Batu Pahat..saya ingat lagi sbb masa tu sy pergi ke dataran utk raikan sambutan ulang tahun 100 Batu Pahat bersama keluarga ketika saya berumur 11 tahun
Hmmm, seven years ago but glad to come across this post and thank you, for sharing it, Mei²...👍👍👍 Awesome presentation and love the contents. Brought back many memories as I used to frequent BP, visiting the Temples, having curry fish heads etc etc.... Take care, be well & stay safe, Everyone 🙏🙏🙏
Hmmm.... found this in 2019. You are now a grown-up. Good job. I was born and bred in Batu Pahat way back in the 60's. Just to share about the origin of the name. Apparently the version we grew up with is a bit different from yours. The Siamese came to attack Melaka. Tun Perak led the defence and he went as far south as what is now Batu Pahat. They set up camp at Pantai Minyak Beku. When the Malay army from Melaka ran out of water, their ketua panglima, Tun Perak chiselled the rocks (or ordered his men to do so) and a well was "born". To decieve the Siamese, Tun Perak cleverly ordered that obor api to be lit at night among the mangroves over a long stretch of the shoreline. It gave an impression that Melaka had a huge army camping by the sea. Brilliant strategy! The Siamese went home and a battle avoided. Melaka was saved.
When I was growing up there it was a small town. We can kick a soccer ball on the street and wont get run over by car! It is a city now!!!!!!! Alamak where did the time go! I am coming home soon to visit.
BP isn't a small town anymore. The high density in the district, which includes towns like Parit Raja, has made BP the 10th largest town in Malaysia in term of size and population.
Rich information . Thank you
