I hardly thrift these days. I get sad. I love vintage, but now i just feel for the past owners. My mom died suddenly and her landlord gave us two days to get what we could out of her 3 bedroom house. I took as much as i could for family dropping stuff off at their places. Things i couldnt bare the landlord taking to the dump i dropped off at Value Village.
2 yrs later we did renos in my home and i let go of much of what i had been holding onto from my childhood and cute thrift store finds i'd picked up over the yrs. I don't want my kids to have to go throught what i did. Sadly i know there is still so much more i need to go thru.
You remind me of a younger me. I love your energy and your sensitivity.
I'm so sorry you and family went through this. Loss of a loved one is hard enough much less a Landlord being an insensitive prick. We have lost so many sentimental things in storage mis-haps. All my photos and kids stuffed animals and things from my skincare training, things from my husband and my childhood. It just pissed me off. We had an agreement with the storage place and they screwed us over and sold it out from under us. I can guarantee majority of it the buyer tossed because it wasn't worth anything to anyone but us especially the pictures. We asked if we could contact the buyer so we could purchase it all back from them but the storage place said no. I had to just grieve it and let it go, and think well it's like losing it in a fire, I'm never going to get it back. It was hard and awful. Wish I could sue the company. My heart goes out to you. ❤

Sorry I keep adding comments. Im thrifting vicariously with you since I dont have large and varied thrifts near me! Add denim to the vest at sides from jeans as a V inset or complete straight piece of fabric inset. You can flat feld hem at sides to make it seem part of original.Or add a large inset of lace or other denim at the back as a V inset. When I add my side insets I dont go above empire line, under bust line, because cutting up sides relaxes entire top. I often also do a bit at a time. Its more scary cutting into back but it also relaxes entire fit more than you would think.

I was in such a rut thrifting for sooooo long, hadn’t had any luck and I definitely feel alive again after this thrift. So many of you said, just show us stuff! It’s ok if you don’t buy anything! And that’s helped me reevaluate how I go about these videos! So happy you enjoyed!

Nice selection of items but that thrift store's prices are too high. They will price themselves right out of business. Goodwill is getting the same way...sad when most of the wares and clothing are donated to them for free.

Great haul! Love the gingham dress. I haven't had a good clothing haul at VV in a long time. Their prices are insane and not having change rooms really sucks. I live in Burlington. Somehow the prices seem to be a bit better in St. Catharines. At least what you found anyway. I seem to have had better luck at Goodwill these days.

I don't understand goodwills pricing. I mean its pure profit for them but yet they jack up the prices. They would sell more and get things off the shelf if they priced better. I turn down many things bc it's ridiculously priced. Love that sherpa jacket you found bc it has that nice lining inside. ❤
Oh since I dont make videos yet. I follow Catherine Sews. She is really good at alterning clothes to fit especially knits. The long sweater could be shortened and if too small add long insets under the arms from wrist to bottom hem. Could plan the existing hem or redo without a banded hem.
The prices at Value Village/Savers are just bananas lately. Almost makes thrifting not worth it at this point 😢

As someone who worked in retail, the majority of us don't care as long as you're respectful and don't ruin the clothes! We would rather you try it on and like it then take it home and have to come back and return it.

I buy a lot just as "fabric" or anything that is lace, has lace, has fringe. I will buy eyelet dust ruffles to add length to tops, shirts. I make toddler pillowcase dresses from vintage pillow cases. If damaged I'll make similarly to add the embroidery or lace to bottom. I buy anything velvet too because I will make binding, cuffs for items I sew. I alter sweatshirts, sweaters, many items into cardis, one button jackets, boleros, shrugs. Loving your other videos today!
