Thank you Morten for your videos. It looks like you had fun with it. I wish we could sponsor you with a 705, but the radio is very expensive for us as a company as well. I am also dreaming a bit about this radio myself, maybe in the future. Thanks again Christopher LB2GG ChrisTech as
Thank you for letting me use this radio for two months. It has surely been a great experience. And I have no problem understanding that you can not sponsor me with a free 705. I don't think any youtubers get's those expensive radios, except as a loaner as in this case. Thank you for the support of my channel, and thank you for the service you provide to the Norwegian ham radio community.
My IC-705 has given me the same positive experiences described here. The video didn't talk about the receiver, which is outstanding. It mentioned the lack of a built-in antenna tuner: one might add that an excellent matched antenna tuner is available from Icom. It does cost more, but I'm glad I got one.
Yes, the receiver is amazing, but contrary to popular belief, when you are operating in a noise free environment like most people do, even a poor receiver works well. And yes, you can add the matching tuner to the radio, but that adds bulk in your portable kit, weight and most of all expense. Thanks for commenting!
@@LB0FI Yes, just as you said, the tuner adds bulk, a little weight, and expense, and also the need to connect it to the IC-705 with yet more cables. Likely most people will not go for it. For those that do, the matching tuner gives immense frequency agility and the ability to use most anything --- including simply a wire --- as an antenna.
It is also very good at SSB and weak signal modes on VHF and UHF, it is an excellent driver for higher band transverters then you can have a chat on 80m run it into an amp for whatever power you want 50W or 1kW.
Looking forward to seeing what Yaesu do with the new FTX when it is released next year, as they’ve had considerable time to review the 705’s features, and likely, improve on them (if that’s possible).
I have had my 705 for over 3 years and never looked back. It ticks all my boxes for what I want to do. My only gripe with it is it gets pretty hot pretty quickly on full duty cycle especially FM on 10w if you are rag chewing for any amount of time. 73 de G0LQP
thanks Morton great video 73 from kb2uew
It's the Swiss Army Knife of radios with all it's features.
It is. I barely got to scratch the surface of it.

I appreciate your fair reviews. I also appreciate all the time and energy you put into the ham radio community!
Thank you very much. Comments like this is what keeps me going!
Great stuff Morten. I’m willing to bet that you’ll buy a IC-705 within 18 months. I’ve had mine for around 3 years or so, it is simply fantastic!
I'll start the stopwatch right now Jonathan!

Boy, you ain't kidding about expensive. They are au$1949 inc tax down here in Australia.

Well summarised! You're going to miss that thing more then you miss the G90 I think!
I probably had a closer relationship with the G90. The 705 was just a summer romance.
The G90 is cool, i realy enjoy mine now days, the only thing is that it just have NFM ... @@LB0FI 73 from LA-M160560
Thanks for the video Mort! 705 is a great radio, but may not be for everyone. 73
It's a fantastic radio, but it's not for me at the moment. It is truly a great radio though.

I have no complaints about it, it’s just not the right radio for me right now.
@@LB0FI I also have the matching AH-705 Tuner but generally use resonant antenna's if I can or use my Chameleon F loop.
I have had the 705 since June, but I still can't find a suitable power Amp for it.
The 705 is a bit picky on voltage on the PTT circuit. I know several people have modded the MX-P50M to use with the 705.
hopefully you get the chance to compare the new ftx ... 73
I can always hope, but I am not one of those youtubers that are first in line for new and expensive radios.
How did the 705 perform at 10w? How far were you able to make a contact?
@@craigskinner8489 Without double checking my logs probably eastern US and Canada.
@@LB0FI Thank you. I am considering the 705 however some people are telling me that 10w is not enough power for POTA and I should consider a 891.
