All the books in the Bible were written hundreds of years apart from each other, by people from all different backgrounds. Kings, prophets, land-owners, religious leaders, one tax collector, even poor fishermen. And every book ties the story of the Bible in one cohesive narrative. A narrative that carries the greatest message of redemption in the world. You cannot convince me that mere men alone could have written this by themselves without a divine hand guiding theirs.
All of the gospels tell a different account of the same stories. The book is not cohesive at all because each writer, at the very least in the New Testament, had a vastly different interpretation of who jesus was and why he was, his purpose, his nature, everything.

So, looking at the rest of Scripture about the food laws, we understand that the primary meaning of the food laws is to symbolically and meaningfully set God's people apart from uncleanness as a concept. Pigs are rooting animals and will eat almost anything. They also wallow. They are unclean in a symbolic (and therefore true) sense, and God was setting apart His people for that reason. Disease prevention was a side-effect perhaps, but people were eating pig long before and during and after that law, all the gentiles around them. It wasn't about disease prevention. And what really matters is that Jesus in Mark says that what goes into your mouth does not make you unclean, but what comes out of your mouth, for your words are an overflow from your heart. If the law about pork was about disease prevention and not merely a symbolic setting apart from an animal deemed unclean, then Jesus could not rightly set the law aside, because the danger of eating pork supposedly would still have existed in 30 AD. You have to remember Jesus cast a demon from a mad man and cast it into a pig, which then ran off in s river and died. So pork was seen as unclean. Also it is a high risk food for getting awful food poisoning if not cooked to a high enough temperature. So mostly pork is unclean as it represents eating something seen as maybe evil too

We look at manuscripts from the 1400s, from the 1000s, from the 300s, whenever. like we look at more modern manuscripts and very ancient manuscripts and we find that actually the writings and such have NOT changed much and started pretty consistent Think about it this way. If you were ordered to transcribe a holy book and it said "if you change a single word you're going to get absolutely bodied by God bro" I'd be pretty careful to make sure I get it right

Not really, back then everything was passed down orally and that was seen as how we see writing today. They fact checked each other and made sure the story stayed consistent. Along with the thing other people have mentioned about the manuscripts we have for the Bible. In fact we have more manuscripts for the Bible than we do for stories and things about ancient history that we teach in schools.

It's more like a collection of important stories and teachings. So when we read it, we gotta understand that some things might not match up with what we know from science. And the story of Noah's ark isn't meant to be a real historical event, but more like a story with a deeper meaning. It's all about God's judgment, mercy, and faithfulness. Scientifically, we know that animals ended up on different continents because of some stuff that are taught in elementary school, like continental drift, migration, and adapting to their environments over a long time. So it's totally possible that the ancestors of koalas and kangaroos were chilling on the ark and then made their way to where they are now. And one last thing, let's be honest and admit it, I'm sure we all might have some questions that leaves us confused, and only God knows the answer! Pork isn't the only animal Israel was told not to eat. Read Leviticus. Mammals must part the hoof and chew the cud, you may eat jumping insects (like crickets), fish must have fins and scales, and domesticated birds were clean to eat. Other dietary laws include: don't cook a kid (goat) in its mothers milk and don't consume blood I think it has less to do with a healthy diet or any historical context, but rather, everything to do with obedience to God. Yes, Scavenger animals in Leviticus 11 in the bible, have bacteria and toxins in them. Clams and shellfish are water filters. Birds of prey carry strong viral bacteria and disease. You are advised not to eat clams and shellfish during winter months due to red tide. It all makes sense. Toxic meat filled with impurities is unhealthy. That is what Leviticus chapter 11 is all about. People just have to read it and ask themselves which of those animals you would consider to be inedible because they are filthy. I grew up going to church every week but I don’t as an adult. I still find it cool when new studies and research comes out to back up what my religion taught me all along. Especially when it’s the weirder commandments that turn out to be good for you. In the case of finding out scientifically why pork was “unclean” historically, I think that if you find out that there was a reason for it, but now that reason doesn’t apply, there should be a re-examination of the commandment. I seriously don’t know the answer to this, but do Jewish people not have a prophet of some sort to be the mouthpiece of God or do they just believe that everything that God needs us to know is already given to us?

A narrative that carries the greatest message of redemption in the world. You cannot convince me that mere men alone could have written this by themselves without a divine hand guiding theirs.
All of the gospels tell a different account of the same stories. The book is not cohesive at all because each writer, at the very least in the New Testament, had a vastly different interpretation of who jesus was and why he was, his purpose, his nature, everything.

So, looking at the rest of Scripture about the food laws, we understand that the primary meaning of the food laws is to symbolically and meaningfully set God's people apart from uncleanness as a concept. Pigs are rooting animals and will eat almost anything. They also wallow. They are unclean in a symbolic (and therefore true) sense, and God was setting apart His people for that reason. Disease prevention was a side-effect perhaps, but people were eating pig long before and during and after that law, all the gentiles around them. It wasn't about disease prevention. And what really matters is that Jesus in Mark says that what goes into your mouth does not make you unclean, but what comes out of your mouth, for your words are an overflow from your heart. If the law about pork was about disease prevention and not merely a symbolic setting apart from an animal deemed unclean, then Jesus could not rightly set the law aside, because the danger of eating pork supposedly would still have existed in 30 AD. Jesus has paid the one time sacrifice for sins, setting aside the symbolic laws of the Old Law for a greater covenant under a perfect High Priest. Hebrews 10:14.

As Christians we are fairly sure we know who wrote all the books of the new testament , secular scholars are sure of about half of it. Outwith the 4 gospels and the book of acts, the nesw testament is made of letters and correspondence between churches in Greece, Turkey, Rome and Israel . We know Paul wrote the majority of them. These aren't like the OT , these are just advice on how to govern the church . We believe Paul met the risen Jesus and we believe this gave Paul authority to spread Gods word.

As a science-educated agnostic in a family of fundamentalist mormons, I've been in Joe's shoes like this so many times where you're trying to help a religious person separate fact from fiction. You patiently walk them through their own belief system (as they describe it) with logic, reason, and evidence and you can see their rusted gears slowly turning but you can also feel the urgent panic to defend these irrational pillars of their belief system because their ego rightly fears deconstructing the cherished lies that they've internalized.

As a clinical nutritionist, I would like to say I've broken down in laboratory pigs and they have human DNA as a adjunct meaning they were mixed with human beings or were fed human beings and therefore their DNA is used for valves with our hearts and for skin grafting. No, the reason is: Originally, before Judaism formed, the middle east was a much cooler place, which made raising pigs suitable and make pork safe to consume. However, the change in climate made the middle east too hot to raise pigs, which made pork unsafe to eat.

I grew up going to church every week but I don’t as an adult. I still find it cool when new studies and research comes out to back up what my religion taught me all along. Especially when it’s the weirder commandments that turn out to be good for you.
In the case of finding out scientifically why pork was “unclean” historically, I think that if you find out that there was a reason for it, but now that reason doesn’t apply, there should be a re-examination of the commandment. I seriously don’t know the answer to this, but do Jewish people not have a prophet of some sort to be the mouthpiece of God or do they just believe that everything that God needs us to know is already given to us?

It's not just trichinosis... It is more than that... Several reasons pork is not good... Long story short... Ask a farmer bro... Pigs are deadly to other farm animals as well... Example...you can't have other animals (horses/cows) in a pen/area where pigs were kept for up to FIVE years after pigs are removed... Due to pigs being soooo nasty. Even if you dig out the pig dirt level... Pigs are farmed separately for a reason. Pigs are not kosher for a reason. You CANT de-worm a pig. Just think about it...
