Philippines has been stuck in the 90's since the 90's.. It's not like we were late.. We stayed cuz it's an amazing era..
Glock 9 is one of the finest rappers in the Philippines. He has been in the industry for so long. He is actually my fave rapper, next to the late Francis M, who discovered him in a rap contest. His music has social relevance and deep meanings. He is very humble despite the achievements he already has in his field. I have been to several fan meetings/autograph signings, but Glock-9 is so different. Still very grounded. Love this guy.
Rappers in the Philippines are such good singers too, like really good singers..

🎸🎸 Yes finally, Gloc9! and I second Gloc9, Upuan. One of the oldest performance on wish bus (Upuan by Gloc 9 feat Lirah Bermudez). Read the translated lyrics but not sure if you can find a good one. He’s big on lyricisms, social issues, social observation and the way he story tell through his songs is amazing, if only you could understand tagalog.
Edit: wish have the old performance upuan but there’s also another one (shorter but live live, like concert live they’re not on the bus) and there he sang with KZ. Idk, I like both but they’re different kind.

🎸🎸. Filipino language naturally sounds good in rap because it is very percussive so it's easy to play around with rhythms. Gloc9 is one of the best rappers in the Philippines with his career starting since the early 90s. He's known for his melodious rap songs that usually tackles social issues and social injustices.
Gloc-9 is what we locally would call "haligi ng industriya", loosely translated, "a pillar of the industry", an artist who has been around for a while, with countless hits, and has influenced many people. He is an icon who raps and sing. He writes about socially relevant issues.
For perspective: Most, if not all, of the rappers in P-Pop, look up to him.

These guys are household names. FLOW G for me has the best flow in the world (1. Rapstar MV or G Wolf Wish performance). And he can sing too (Titig wish bus) where he let his boys do the rap while he sings.

I love Gloc-9. His lyrics are always deep... Topics singers/rappers don't talk about... His song, "Sirena (Mermaid)", is about homosexuality. Another is "Magda" (like Mary Magdalene), about a prostitute. He is not a trash-talking rapper but brings heart to his lyrics.
What I love about Philippines rappers is that they can sing... You have to be able to do both to be a rapper in the Philippines. And they also harmonize in rap verses or they harmonize the melodic parts.

If you’d like to see more of Pinoy (Filipino) Rap, Flow G (in black) has “Titig” & “Pauwi na ko” on Wish Bus.
Also Michael Pangilinan and Ryssi (Rainbow on the Wish Bus) have a rap video called “Nadarang” which you also may want to check out.
I agree with this recomendation for "Pauwi na ko". For Glock 9, I would recommend "Sirena" or "Upuan".

I’m not sure if you know epik high but Gloc 9 is like epik high in a sense that he collaborates with a lot of artists. He even have one with Regine, with bands (Parokya ni Edgar, rnb - Jay Durias from south border), and ofcourse with other rappers. He’s one of the OG. His collaboration with Francis M would probably be nostalgic again for you both. (Francis M died young due to leukemia but OG Pinoy rapper).

This genre is already so well-developed here, so unique, the world can learn a lot from it! These guys are superstars here, Gloc-9 is an OG. If you will notice in the Wish viewership, it's the rap/ hip-hop artists that is sure to get millions and millions of views. It's because Filipinos naturally love rap that's styled our way. I suggest you watch the Ex-Battalion MVs where you get to listen to many of the best rappers on one watch. Their latest one is "We the Best". Please discover, too, EZ Mil, who is on a different league, too. A lot of American/ Western rap enthusiasts stan him solidly.

Hmmm... if memory serves me right i believe that even before the onset of the internet or even before the music videos were born, our radio stations were updated on what's new , in or out (even in fashion).
I remember listening to american top 40 with casey kasem. Also our radio DJs that time were top notch with proper american accents (not that it mattered).
So I'm thinking it's just a matter of preference really on why we sing the way we do. While we appreciate and dig the songs of the "now", we just choose not to forget the "then" songs. They were and are beautiful after all. BTW Filipinos by nature are sentimental and romantic.

Gloc-9 and his wife are family friends. We invited him to my niece's debut birthday party and they were treated with awesome live rapping, he sound exactly the same Live. My niece together with her classmates and friends loved him. He is such a humble guy and also a toy collector. So, as a token of our gratitude, we gifted him with a limited edition toy robot, which he appreciated so much.
You guys should react to 'PRANING' by Flow G also the 'G WOLF' both songs have wish bus version and his raps is insane 🔥💯
