Yeah, I was talking with Martin about this (the PTC product manager) and he said when he previewed this to the PTC/User working group, they were really excited about this too.
Just recently updated to Creo 7. It seems I might have just waited a little longer for Creo8 beacuse I love those improvements.
There really are a lot of fantastic enhancements to this version.
First of all, well done, your videos are great!
These improvements are great; however, PTC is not looking at the real problem.
I meant that CREO could not create automotive class A surface, which is the real reason the automotive sector uses CATIA and NX, with few exceptions that use CREO for the powertrain.
As a user with 26 years of experience in CREO, I'm dying to see PTC creating a real surface package like Alias and ICEM Surface btw the same ICEM Surface that PTC sold back in the days.
This is not true at all. You can create surfaces in ISDX with G3 continuity on the boundaries. How are these not Class A surfaces?
@@CADPLMGuyOnly G3 acceleration is not considered a Class A surface (automotive quality). There are many other things we need to control to create a true class A; for example, we need to have the ability to control the nurbs, and the reparametrization command in the ISDX can’t do it right. It is very limited.
We also need the ability to control the patches and isolines.
This is just a couple of exemples I can talk about it for days.
Btw we don’t have even the tool to analyze the surfaces properly, to validate as Class A.
Where do these requirements for the definition of true Class A come from?
@@CADPLMGuy Basically, automotive Class A surface is a “subjective” topic since each company has its own requirements.
To simplify Class A surface is a high-quality surface that can be easily modified.
Personally, I’m struggling trying to achieve that quality in CREO for the past 15 years.
This last month I sent a simple model to PTC, nothing organic, just a simple model.
That case was escalated, and at the end of the day, I realized they have no idea at all about Class A.
So I studied Alias for a couple of hours, and I could get the same model done flawlessly in class A.
Then I sent the model made in alias to PTC, so the answer I got back from them was CREO wasn’t able to achieve that quality.
Your definition did sound subjective as I had never heard what you specified as requirements for Class A surfacing. It sounds more like Creo can't meet your needs for quality in automotive Class A surfaces. That happens. However, it is not accurate to say that Creo cannot do Class A surfaces. That's why Creo supports import from high-end surfacing applications.
Regrettably there are times when Creo can't meet, say, some customer's requirements for assembly modeling. But it would not be correct to say that Creo can't do assembly modeling.

I can't, because that doesn't exist. Outside of sketch mode, you can use SHIFT to select multiple entities to be considered as the same chain in different operations. Or you can use Copy and Paste to turn multiple curves and edges into a single chain. Perhaps if you told me what you were really trying to do, I could help you.

Hi. Im using creo 8.0 Student version. I cannot drag or rotate components much less use the mechanism function as shown in other videos I've seen. Are these functions blocked or do I need to toggle a switch somewhere?
I don’t know anything about the student version. Last I heard it was managed by a third party. (Liberty Education Systems?) I recommend reaching out to whoever handles support for it.

@@CADPLMGuy PTC's Academic Program. Allows students and teachers to download it for free but only up to Creo 7 so far.
Is that from the PTC website? Is there some link or contact information there?

Seems like creo is catching up with solidworks , in terms of ease of use.
That wasn't the intent, but you're free to feel that way. If you've seen any of my SolidWorks - Creo comparison series or read my blogs on the subject, you know my perspective on that.
