i recommend “before the coffee gets cold” by toshikazu kawaguchi!! i haven’t heard that many people talk about this book but it’s really good! it has such a cozy vibe. it’s about this café in tokyo where customers can travel back in time. in the book you follow four visitors who want to travel back in time to confront the lover who left them, receive a letter from their husband whose memory has begun to fade, see their sister on last time and meet the daughter they never got to know. i really love how the further into the book you get, the more you see the characters relationship with one another. i loved the ending (i cried but it was a good ending). i’d loooove to be able to read this for the first time again
Hey do u have any recommendations close to that, I want books that don’t include alot of relationship/love yk something that’ll benefit me and I’ll have fun reading or a simple fun novel
Nayna pleaaase read "A song of Achilles" if you haven't, and also "Daisy Jones and The Six". Both are amazing! I always read your recommendations and find our taste quite alike!
Norwiegan Wood - reminiscent of student life & set in Tokyo (suicide trigger warning) Normal people - relatable relationships (BBC tv series available) Conversation with Friends - relatable relationships Never let me go - dystopian Flat share - lighthearted Ghosts - adult life & comparing progress (Everything I know about love) The midnight Library - non-classic love story (suicide trigger warning but generally an uplifting book) This is going to hurt - diary of a student doctor & funny A thousand Splendid Suns - heartbreaking but so emotionally investing (writer of the Kite Runner) Such a fun age - life in your 20s & themes of racism & pricellage
The 7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a great book to get people out of a reading slump! It's one I think you'll really enjoy Nayna!😊 Character driven, a mystery, queer romances, and historical fiction! Btw I also loved the British humour in 'This is going to hurt'!! Great vid!!
never let me go is one of my absolute favourites. it’s terrifying because unlike most dystopian settings they never once think about fighting back, because they’ve been conditioned to not think twice. it’s devastating.
yes!!! theres a video somewhere of ishiguro speaking about that aspect of it- i really love that he chose to focus on a different narrative than i would expect!
I think you would love "Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine"! It's this really funny, heartwarming book about friendship, but also deals with mental health and abuse. I've also just finished "Firekeeper's Daughter" and loved it:)
This comes at a perfect time because my only resolution for this year is to start reading again and not stop. Architecture school and its residual exhaustion I felt during the holidays really took me out of reading and I hate that. I literally have a picture of me reading at the corner of a class in my high school, I was that big of a reader. I had my head inside a book always, shutting myself out from anything happening around me, and I loved that feeling, how all the noise around me would slowly disappear as I got sucked deeper and deeper into the book I was reading, how it felt like the world revolved around that book, the characters and their story only. I want to feel like that again. So thank you so much for motivating me throughout last year for me to make this a resolution this year since I know I will have the time soon enough to be able to do this. Love youu bye
I recommend -To Kill A Mockinbirg by Harper Lee - Beach Read by Emily Henry - the switch and the Flatshare by Beth O'leary - Thursday Murder Club, Richard Osman All immerse you in their story and are easy to read, yet fulfilling and well-written! 💛
A little life is probably the best book I've ever read. It's a long one but I've never seen characters written so intricately I truly felt like I knew them. Definitely a must read if you haven't read it
i read never let me go because of you! i absolutely loved how you don’t completely understand everything that’s going on from the start. it was a lot different from other books that i read and it’s one that’s stuck with me!! 💗
also a thousand splendid suns is amazing!!! i read it quite a few years ago and it’s another one that stuck with me a lot. it’s so heartbreaking but i love how intense it made me feel for the characters :(
your hair looks really pretty here!! I think one of my favourite books this year was interview with the vampire (and its sequel the vampire lestat) by anne rice. gorgeous writing style and really rich characters. hard recommend!
I haven't read any book in my entire life but Nayna makes reading looks so peaceful and addicting I hope I read more books after these recommendations...❤❤
Soooo many great recommendations, I heard of most of these but have only read the Sally Rooney books. I really look forward to reading A Thousand Splendid Suns though, because I adore Hosseini's writing style. Based on these recommendations I think you would really like Piranesi by Susanna Clarke and Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. I just recently came across your page and I'm so glad I did! I look forward to catching up on your videos.

some of my favorite books which i can totally recommend to anyone!! - aristotle & dante - the secret history - the apple tart of hope - one last stop - last night at the telegraph club
Norwegian Wood is my favourite book!! I appreciated the ending when I re read the first chapter. I felt that the nature of the book, him reflecting on this part of his life, means he stopped the cycle. I was also frustrated by how women were portrayed, but that’s definitely Murakami
Loved so many of these books !! Some other ones I’ve loved recently: Daisy Jones & the Six, The People We Keep, the Nightingale, Beautiful Country, Educated, Greenlights

I loved that the books you recommended balanced each other out. There was the right amount of every topic😌 which is something I want to try this year I tend to stick to like 4 genres when there are so many!! Thanks for this Nayna 💕😊
Love this! You best believe I added a few to my goodreads wtr list. The midnight library was definitely my favorite book I read in 2021. Some recommendations: - The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab - Writers & Lovers by Lily King - In Five Years by Rebecca Serle
Loved this video I really want to pick up more books in 2022!!😭 I'm at uni also have a TH-cam channel which you've properly motivated me to keep going with, because I just love making the videos. Keep inspiring nayna xx
I read the midnight library because you said you liked it in a video and I loved it so so much, it was so easy to read and I just loved how beautifully it was written.
Some recommendations: The Secret History by Donna Tartt Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky The Outsider by Albert Camus The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde Yes, they are classics and they may sound daunting but they are incredible! I beg you to read them!
just kids by Patti smith! I read it a few weeks ago and it's easily one of my favorites now. also crying in h mart and my year of rest and relaxation :)
Hi Nayna! Happy new year to you. I want to thank you for inspiring me to read more in the past year. Honestly, watching your vlogs and seeing you read made me want to get back into reading. Thank you and stay safe 🥰🤗
Love this list Nayna!! You HAVE to read The Beekeeper of Aleppo - such an amazing story I was completely mesmerised for weeks! If you liked A Thousand Splendid Suns you will LOVE it! 💕💕💕

Omg theres so many amazing reads here!!! I can’t wait to read Norwegian Wood this year! From your faves I highly recommend Untold Night and Day by Bae Suah, After Dark by Murakami and The Secret History by Donna Tartt! (I have tons more recs on my channel but I feel like you’d LOVE those)🤍
Would recommend “Girl, Woman, Other” - my favourite book ever! Would also recommend “Three Women” by Lisa Taddeo ❤️ I also read “Betty” which was reallyyyy heavy and needs a LOT of trigger warnings but it’s so beautifully written and heartbreaking
Thanks for the recommendations. If you are into Japanese literature, I'd like to recommend No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai. I just read it recently and I felt so related to the character. Happy reading.
book recs: bunny by mona awad (sephy n wing’s book club read for this month !!!) the song of achilles by madeline miller the virgin suicides by jeffery eugenides the bell jar by sylvia plath (ofc) the vanishing half, brit bennett
Yay! Two of my favorite 2021 books made it to your list! (Norwegian Wood and Never Let Me Go!) Here are some of my recommendations: “The Count of Monte Cristo” it’s long but omg my favorite book ever. “Howl’s moving castle” it’s the book that the ghibli movie was inspired by and it is just so funny and heartwarming “Anne of Green Gables” just so so cute and lighthearted, also a lot of cottage core vibes “The ocean at the end of the lane” it’s more of a fairytale-like book with a bit of magic but not full-on fantasy “A little princess” I haven’t read it yet, but I plan to soon. I’ve read the first few pages and really loved it
Thanks for the recs! My recs for you: the seven husbands of evelyn hugo, red white and royal blue, aristotle and dante, exciting times, they never learn, six of crows, one last stop, we were liars, act your age eve brown, beach read, daisy jones and the six
Hi Nayna, i really like your videos. Never stop plz. I also discover your podcast and i really enjoy it. Even if im older than you (im 31..) it feels good to hear your thought , fear etc cuz at the end we al think the same Thank you . 😊
I think as well, reading is a skill. The more you read the easier it is to read. I find that when I've not read for a little bit it is harder to get into the swing of it.
i would really recommend 'piranesi' by susanna clarke for anyone who wants something thought provoking and unique! also would recommend all of donna tartt's works (the secret history, the goldfinch etc) and anything by albert camus!
I’m reading Harry Potter series in English (not my first language) the „Goblet of Fire” at the moment. I have recently finished „the Bell Jar” by Sylvia Plath which was extraordinary. I got „Normal People” by Sally Rooney for Christmas so that one will be next :))
looooooved this video - I got back into my reading gear this summer ! really loved the girl with the dragon tattoo, find me, a little life and in cold blood ! and fave fave fave book ever is catcher in the rye. happy 2022 xoxoxo
Taylor Jenkins Reid is amazing! I've read the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Daisy Jones & the Six and Malibu Rising and they were all amazing! Also love Celeste Ng's books Everything I Never Told You and Little Fires Everywhere - I think you would really enjoy them!
I loved Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro, definitely top 3 books I ever read. My all time favourite is House of Spirits by Allende, I also got really into reading Elena Ferrante (The Lying life of Adults so far my favourite) and a new find which I read in like 24 hours is The Cat that Saved Books. Hope you like some of these, if you decide to give them a try! Have a lovely day 🧡
Thank you so much for those recommandations ! I'm french but also enjoying reading english written books from time to time. I've picked The Midnight Library a couple of weeks ago and I'm going to start reading it today, and I also bought Normal people which I'm really excited about. Take care and have a lovely Sunday, love from Paris :)
we have such a similar taste in books, i think you'd really enjoy celeste ng's books, (either one is amazing) little fires everywhere or everything i never told you
I just finished Exciting Times by Naorise Dolan and really enjoyed, similar-ish to Sally Rooneys writing style and also one of those books which don’t have a super intense plot but still enjoyable to read!
Love the video! I’ve been reading the Bridgerton and Outlander series. Also read the Sally Rooney books. My favorite book is What red was by Rosie Price
Honestly, gone by the wind is one of the best stories I’ve ever read, I recommend you 100%. The characters, how they made me feel… It was a whole journey
@@Shira.Raba102 100%! The racialism is part of the history also, and it is important to see how people thought, and how are we evolving on that aspect.
a few of my recommendations: Asylum road by Olivia Sudjic, Second Place by Rachel Cusk (I think you will really enjoy this) and Trick Mirror by Jia Tolentino. Happy reading
Would recommend "the defining decade" by a psychologist Meg Jay. It's about how you can do a lot and make changes in your twenties! Love your videos and thank you for the recommendations!
If you loved ‘Never Let Me Go’ , definitely read Ishiguro’s book ‘Klara and the Sun’. I just finished it and i really enjoyed it ! The concept was fascinating to me !
I also strongly recommend "In the sea there are crocodiles" by Fabio Geda. It's about a young afghan refugee and it is a true story as well. It was so beautifully written and heart-wrenching as well!
my recommendations: - the secret history by donna tart (it's quite long but it's worth it) - my year of rest and relaxation by ottessa moshfegh (only for people who like character-driven books, it has almost no plot) - exciting times by noise dolan (if you like sally rooney) - daisy jones & the six by taylor jenkins reid
I read Such a Fun Age after you posted about it, it was such a realistic book that I felt frustrated at the end. Thousand Splendid Suns is probably my favorite book of all time.
this is such a good recommendation list! i just finished ghosts this morning and loved it. thinking about read norwegion wood soon, although everyone does have that caveat about the way he writes women which makes me hesitant. the book exciting times by naoise dolan has major sally rooney vibes, would recommend!
Writing all these down!! Last year was hands down my best year for reading so I’d definitely recommend where the crawdads sing by Delian Owens and The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett 📖💗
Same with the comments, for someone getting into the groove of reading, 7 husbands of evelyn hugo is definitely where to start. Reading it feels like an actual autobiography and you have to keep reminding yourself it isnt. Also! I highly HIGHLY rec picture of dorian gray and shadow of the wind. Both very rich language and gripping plots
Thank you for the recs! Can i make a couple? "The Book Thief" - probably my favourite book. "Dogs at the Perimeter" is stunning......"The Beekeeper of Aleppo" is also incredible.
Would recommend Earthlings by Sayaka Murata, that is what got me out of my reading slump at the start of September! Quite trigger warning heavy so make sure to research that before hand
ive read a lot of books in the last year from your recommendations! need to try Ishiguro and Murakami next!! id recommend Gods of Jade and Shadow - Silvia Moreno-Garcia for you :)
I think you'd love Mary Oliver's writing. If you would like to get into some poetry I highly recommend checking her stuff out. Her poems are very accessible and thought-provoking. There is also a book titled "Our Women on the Ground" which is a collection of essays written by Arab women. They write a lot about the oppression they face on a day-to-day basis, for being female journalists (and just being women in general) in a male-dominated industry. It's one of my favorite books! I think you'd get a lot out of reading it. :)
I'm reading a book called the beekeeper of aleppo - its about the journey of a man and hid wife from syria to england. Its both beautiful and heartbreaking
all the books you recommended that i've read i loved! so will definitely be looking into the ones i haven't my recommendations are: taylor jenkins reid's books (you've probably heard about them but they deserve the hype!) nina lacour's books - particularly we are okay one day by david nicholls (if you liked the flat share and dolly alderton you'll probably like this, edinburgh also features in it) i also started to read more in 2021 and one of my 2022 goals is to continue that! i'm currently reading hamnet
Nayna I cannot wait to read norwegian wood! My recommendations for you and for anyone who’s reading this is definitely “the song of Achilles” and “the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo”
I absolutely love your recommendation videos! Where the crawdads sing is a beautiful read, I also highly recommend It ends with us (this had me in tears). If you're searching for more informative, non fiction then Love and Math by Edward Frenkel and lastly, A little History of the World by E.H. Gombrich. Sending love to all ❤
Happy New Year! You really played a massive part in my 2021 and I'm very grateful I found your channel. My favourite books of 2021 were: Dancer by Calum McCann This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay Calypso by David Sedaris In a Dark Dark Wood by Ruth Ware The whole of A Court of Thorns and Roses serie by Sarah J Maas
i recommend “before the coffee gets cold” by toshikazu kawaguchi!! i haven’t heard that many people talk about this book but it’s really good! it has such a cozy vibe. it’s about this café in tokyo where customers can travel back in time. in the book you follow four visitors who want to travel back in time to confront the lover who left them, receive a letter from their husband whose memory has begun to fade, see their sister on last time and meet the daughter they never got to know. i really love how the further into the book you get, the more you see the characters relationship with one another. i loved the ending (i cried but it was a good ending). i’d loooove to be able to read this for the first time again
ahh i just finished this and literally loved it!! gave me a v similar vibe to the midnight library but i thought it was just a lot gentler to read. x
that book was soo good i cried multiple times throughout it, also loved how short it was
I just finished this 2 days ago and really enjoyed it! The characters are so well developed so YES I would like to second this recommendation

I love that book
@@Shira.Raba102 100%! The racialism is part of the history also, and it is important to see how people thought, and how are we evolving on that aspect.
a few of my recommendations: Asylum road by Olivia Sudjic, Second Place by Rachel Cusk (I think you will really enjoy this) and Trick Mirror by Jia Tolentino. Happy reading
You should try Baye Hartshorne's Ghosted The Treason House Trilogy Book 1.Great paranormal romance
loved this sit down style video and the reading content
I was literally trying to find new books to read, thank you 🥰
my recommendations:
- the secret history by donna tart (it's quite long but it's worth it)
- my year of rest and relaxation by ottessa moshfegh (only for people who like character-driven books, it has almost no plot)
- exciting times by noise dolan (if you like sally rooney)
- daisy jones & the six by taylor jenkins reid
Have you read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt ? In my opinion it's her absolute best novel :)

I love when you talk about books!! ✨💗
