I don’t know what other people’s opinions are about this scene but me personally I think it was a good heathy one. Now, gonna be honest I have never dated. Never been broken up, but why I think it is heathy because no one left angry or bitter at each other. They say their peace. And even saying thank you for saying that you love me or even telling me that you did. Cuz most people don’t get that. They leave either angry, upset, and they just get bitter that they didn’t get their feelings returned. But just looking at someone and telling them “thank you for I did fall in love with you” or “I have never even thought in my wildest dream I could fall in love”. It’s hard opening yourself up to a stranger especially if you don’t know a lot about them. And it’s scary for some. So, I thought this break up or rejection was a healthy one. There will come a day where you will find that someone. Just not right now and that’s okay. All good things to those who wait.

I think you didn’t really understand the show. Tenjin is Akari’s first and old crush but they never got to be really close and she ended up losing feelings for him while catching feelings for Jirou. This confession was meant to show that she moved on Tenjin even before getting rejected, at some point in the story she says "what if I’ve met him (Jirou) without knowing who he is in love with" which means she is restraining her growing love for Jirou cuz it’s a losing game for her. The fact she is catching feelings for Jirou shows that Akari liked Jirou but did not love him, it’s not as genuine as the love she feels for Jirou. This confession was the moment she realized what are her current feelings and the one and not the ones she used to have, to tell the truth, when u used to have a crush it might takes time for to realize that u are losing feelings for him.

While Jirou was and still is in love with Shiori, I think he fell harder for Akari, but is just not that aware of it and chalks it up to her just being attractive. Both Akari and Jirou pursued their respective initial love interests more out of a sense of pride in finishing what they set themselves for in the beginning, more than out of real love. That's why Akari is not that hurt by Minami's rejection, and that's why Jirou is having so many second thoughts about Shiori.

I recommend watching the series again. Her crushing on Tenjin was borderline obsessive. But, the longer she got to know Jiro (especially on the night of the fireworks festival) the more her crush on Tenjin diminished. Even at one point feeling relieved he didn't "make it."
You totally weren't paying attention to the story, Akari was already falling in love with Jirou. This whole rejection is also showing that, because Tenjin knows the one she is in love with now isn't him, regardless of the fact that he was already rejecting her. Shiori definitely doesn't deserve it better if you also paid attention to their backstory (regardless if you're anime only, but if you also read the manga then you know for sure). First love doesn't trump actual current feelings, and both Akari and Jirou are falling hard for each other.
