    Excellent video. Thanks a bunch. I called Athlon support on setting the Zero Stop , but this video is MUCH better solution.

      DJ Sisk indeed the instructions are confusing and so is setting the Stop. I'm glad the video was useful!

    Just got the same scope and was sitting in my garage...Now what? The instructions aren't exactly the best. Thanks for a perfect video. Lots of guys skip steps figuring most guys can see what goes next. When I'm messing with something new I want to see step by step! Great job on the video.

    Great video for setting the zero stop. Easy to follow and understand.
    I just bought this scope for my Sauer 6.5prc and it’s capability vastly exceeds my limited long range shooting knowledge. I simply shot iron sights in the Corps and focus most of my hunting time on archery. I need to be taught the very basics!! Can anyone recommend a good video or resource for zeroing and basic operation of this Ares BTR Gen II scope?

    Other video and the Athlon Booklet weren't good at all. Took some time to figure out. Should be helpful to others. Thanks!

    I was sent a link to your video by Athlon as I have been unable to receive a clear response from Athlon regarding the range of the elevation turret on my Athlon Ares 4.5-30x56 ETR FFP scope. The zero stop set at a mid way level where the base of the elevation turret cap lines up with No. 2 horizontal bar. This gives only 55MOA of elevation and not the 110MOA specified. Athlon response to my email say that the stop when leaving the factory is set at optical zero, which is described as the level arrived at by dividing by 2 the total travel of the turret. The maths is understandable but the consequential inability to use 50% of the elevation does not make any sense. Athlon's adviser wrongly suggests the use of a canted rail to access the lost 55MOA. The User Manual is very sparse on information
    Can anyone advise on the correct procedure or suggest where reliable information can be obtained on setting the elevation turret zero stop so the full 110MOA range is available. The inner arrangement of the turret on the Ares ETR is similar but not exactly like that of Ares BTR. I believe the advice by Athlon to use a 40MOA rail is ill concieved.

      For small caliber rifles, the Chinese Athlons would be fine and for Magnum calibers I'd go with the Philippines made Vortex PST gen 2 or better yet a Meopta, Leupold or a Japan made scope. For the prior $399 clearance sale for the Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 you can afford to buy two of them so whenever one fails you always have a spare on hand.

      elijah azzato that’s a cast away throw lever from Amazon. Works great on other scopes. Not so much on the Ares. I’m rocking the MK Machine one now.

    Ok so you zero elevation and can only adjust up. So what's the point of locking a zero for elevation? What if you need to dial left? Or right? Witch ever the lock stops it at

    • @highcountryoutdoor
      @highcountryoutdoor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scott P the windage dial is not locked and is fully adjustable. The purpose of a locking turret for elevation is so that the turret can be reset with ease to the “zero” position without looking at the dials. This is really important for long range shooting. Some people choose to “zero” the rifle at distances of 100, 200 or even 300 yards. Then they can “dial” up the turret for longer range applications. My competition rifles are usually zero’d at 100 yards while my hunting rifle is zero’d at 300 Yards. When I want to engage a target at distance I simply range the target, check my dope chart for that distance and apply the correct elevation correction to the turret.

    What is the brand of that tripod that is holding your rifle?

    • @highcountryoutdoor

      Sirui. That model is the T-025X. I would also recommend the sirui N-1204X which is the big brother of the 25X

    • @highcountryoutdoor

      bravastar1 I would recommend a 3D printed throw lever vs the strap seen here. They work much better on the Athlon scopes vs the strap Style.

    what bubble level and lever throw do you have?

    • @highcountryoutdoor
      @highcountryoutdoor  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kory Waite that is a Burris Bubble level and a the throw lever is a Breakaway Coaster throw lever from Amazon. I use them on all my rifles but honestly it doesn't work the best on this scope because of the design. It comes loose frequently so I went back to the one that was sent with the scope. I'm looking for alternative options.
