Wow...Thank you! Don't know When I learned to Read. (Feels like I was Born Reading!) I'm 76 & this Homily just made it clear How Protected I've been. I remember our Parish Priests & Teachers, (Sisters of St. Joseph) warning us about Books on the Index...."The Index" had Disappeared by the time I was grown...There were times I tried to read books I later found out were, on The "Index". I Could Not "Read" any of them, they made No Sense to me...No matter how I tried, I couldn't finish any one of them! Same was true of many so-called Popular RC Books that began flooding our Church in the 60's...(Teilhard Chardin comes to mind) Thank You, Again! Your Homilies are a Great Part of God's Own Protection, right now...They Confirm what I Once Believed in Faith, ...is Historical Fact & supported by Evidence.

I went to a Catholic high school and although it was particularly better than most others regarding its Catholicity now I'm starting to realize that it has a long way to go as I had to read some inappropriate material like the Catcher in the Rye, not to mention that most textbooks used in Religion class are published by Notre Dame (and our unused chapel looks pretty ecumenical).

Let us be well grounded in our Catechism, well grounded in our Holy Faith, and to never escape into fantasy worlds like Harry Potter, for sympathy for satan is an occult idea, and he is ever cunning and desirous of your soul. Nourish your souls instead with supernatural truths of the faith, so that you may live and die for the Lord. The One True Church is in her passion, fight for her, until the end, remembering that this is not our home.

"We should long to feed our faith and know our Catechism more than we love to fill our bellies." Excellent quote! Great advice!
And I'm releived to know that it's a longstanding custom to read and listen to reading while we're eating, so as to nourish our souls as we nourish our bodies. Well, unless I am eating with my family, I am always reading things to help me grow spiritually but I wondered if it was offensive to God to be reading about Him while eating. This affirms that it isn't a bad idea to do so. Yay!

I came back to the Catholic church in 1985 because of the unapproved apparition at Bayside NY at the age of 45 years. And when I hear about what happened after Vatican 2 I am somewhat happy that I was not going to Church. I often wondered how confused I might have become, or weather I would have joined the Society of Saint Pius 10, SSPX.

I'm in my twenties, so I grew up around HP (first movie came out when I was in first grade). I have watched some of the movies but I wasn't obsessed like some of my classmates. I never thought anything of it, it's fiction, it never had an effect on my Catholicism, I always went to mass, CCD, read the Bible. I can see how it could deceive people -- like if someone actually starts practicing black magic and rejects the Faith that would be bad. Those are my thoughts, feel free to share yours.

    • @vigildino6518

I feel the same way as you do. If I was not told it was bad, I would not have known. I also saw at least one of HP movies and thought nothing of it later on. As a child, I always liked like fantasy movies and I do not see that they had an evil influence on me.

@@vigildino6518 yes I like fantasy, but, if the Fantasy is teaching bad stuff like Harry Potter or Naruto then it should not be read. Tolkien, CS Lewis, and Chesterton are okay because when they do show "good magic" it's usually more like the prophets and they know what is used. Harry Potter is the baby playing with fire.

At 1:30, Father stretches "from this book" to "the whole deposit of the faith." That's an awful big stretch. And before you jump all over me, I am a devout Catholic. Protestants stretch it to mean the entire Bible. Very perplexing. Why can't it mean what Saint John said it meant?

What can I make of this? In times past when these places were thriving with the faithful they sent many souls to heaven.
Now, the vacancy is saying, we are not sending anyone to heaven.... the past speaks for itself and that it held the torch for those they were responsible for. What say now? the church of what is happening right now? Who are we leading to heaven?
the stairways are empty.... God have mercy on us all. Amen

I listened to the debate mentioned not too long ago. I thought Julian Ahlquist's argument was extremely weak, and he came off as arrogant too. Though Michael Matt's defence of the lord of the rings was also a weak point.
Though the fact that Harry Potter contains actual spells researched and adapted from ancient Pagans is enough to set it apart from the Lord of the Rings pretty drastically. You wouldn't consider reading a wicken spell manual right recreation, Harry Potter is the same thing.

So you don't think it has anything to do with Protestantism turning Church into an ENTERTAINMENT media rather than a union with God via the Eucharist? While people like you obsess on the host in the hand versus the mouth, people are leaving in droves because they find a much more welcoming embrace in large Protestant Mega Churches that constantly tell them that they are wonderful and that God exists merely to give them whatever they pray for. They call it Prosperity Gospel, and it is very popular. Catholicism teaches that we are sinful beings needing redemption. Protestants are now starting these big mega churches that tell people that they are instead fantastic (no need to change in any way) and that God loves them so much that all they need to do is pray for the perfect house, car, job and mate ,and he will bring them. Yet you think the true battle is between those who like Mass in English and those who prefer the jibberish of Latin? You traditionalists see a decline in Catholicism and then apply your own solution, i.e., bring back Latin, bring back more statues, bring back anything from pre-Vatican II. Yet you have zero proof that any of this has anything to do with the decline. But the decline has happened as Protestant churches went from sober mainline denominations into more extreme charismatic emotion based Mega Churches with rock bands, big screens with simple minded song lyrics. WATCH JOEL OSTEEN. He has the largest Church in the USA, and it is totally modern. Yet ironically, your answer for Catholicism is to go even more backwards to an even more primitive pagan style worship service. How out of touch are you? You think people left Catholicism because they could understand in English what was going on and preferred Latin? They all left because the priest faces the congregation instead of the tabernacle? They all left because they receive the host in the hand? Give me a break. That is like saying that everyone voted for Donald Trump because they adore orange hair.

      @ArizonaWillful 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@Instaurare Omnia In Christo I am glad you are an expert in modern Catholic Services. But my Church is nothing like what you described. By the way, they offer the host in the hand OR IN THE MOUTH. It is up to each individual. When you go up, you either cup your hands or open your mouth and extend the tongue. It is up to you.

There are different definitions of magic according to exorcist Fr. Chad Ripperger. He has experienced the demonic first hand and has written and spoken widely on this topic.
HP is evil because it writes out the spells. Rowling herself was involved in witchcraft as a youth. There are DEFINITE examples of HP spells working and readers becoming possessed.
Which examples have you heard about LOTR?
The books have different audiences. Any dope can get through a mindless chapter of HP. LOTR books are long and challenging. The magic is different:
Gandalf was more interested in fireworks, slight of hand, using persuasion, not transforming into beasts, forming gills, lying, etc. Father Chad speaks to this.
In LOTR, Gandalf NEVER resorts to dark powers.
HP is both a mix of dark magic and "white" magic which we know are both related to the demonic. God bless!

  • @ChristianSaintSavior

This same truth (condemnation & avoidance of forbidden books), also applies to some of the works of J.R.R Tolkien (Lord of the Rings), C.S Lewis (Narnia Chronicles) and even G.K Chesterton. Just because they were "Christian" authors, does NOT mean we should just automatically and blindly, read & enjoy their works, which contain the glorification and glamorization of magic, paganism and the occult. Truly know & strengthen your Catholic Christian Faith, before doing your careful research, on ANY author, and his or her works, no matter how "classic" or "innocent," they might seem to you, on the surface.

Virgin Mary appeared some place, and said Priest's should learn to project their voices, like in the old days. I have hearing problem and find Priest's will not project their voices, and often modulate their voices up and down, and then occasionally mutter something under their breath as if they were sitting right in front of you. I have tried moving around to get near a good speaker, but depending on the church that may not help either. So for numerous years now I just just don't bother to strain myself. Most of what is said nowadays is simply boring or repetitive anymore, I do miss announcements, but hopefully they are in the bulletin. I think Mary hit it right on head, if the Priest projects his voice forcefully you might feel the wrath of God, but if he speaks normally, we can just go on our merry way and enjoy life, and forget about sin.
