      You should put the pops from the bottom first it’s easier to slide in with the stacks and slide out is easier too n make sure the top goes on top and the bottom goes on the bottom cus even tho it looks like it fits it fits weird when u do the opposite

  • @chrisnave3104
    @chrisnave3104 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    1st you should never put a pop in a popstack from the top . There is a reason that the top piece and the bottom peice will not fit vice versa . The bottom is a bit larger than the top and the pop will slide in easily without doing any damage to the lip of the pop where the window meets the box . Please pass that on if you read this as its amazing that ppl who collect pops do not know this

  • @Jason-xb7rg
    @Jason-xb7rg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    The hard stack should get the most damages because it’s acrylic and the lids do not lock. Stupid they cost 8 to 10 times more. The .5mm is probably the best of the 3

    This was a really cool video and I was right there with you with my soul hurting as each pop went through the tests. I don't really like Pop stacks because of the clunkiness. I have a bunch of the pop shields and Shumi pop protectors and enjoy using those more. I did have a few fall off my dresser and the world froze as I watched them hit the floor...But my pops were in Shumi/Pop shields and they were just fine.

    Here I was thinking I was stupid in putting the cheaper Funko pops into the thinner protectors and then as they get more expensive they get a better protector. Glad to know Dr Applesauce does the same thing too. Only difference between us is that I do not display my pops without their boxes

  • @Jmener69
    @Jmener69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Cool vid, I use the same 3 protectors, I also put my entire collection in soft protectors, and the more expensive or my most favorite in Stacks. I'd say 20% are in Stacks, 70% in 7 bucks a pop protectors and the other 10% in Shumi. The bad thing with the stacks is the bottom drops off most of the time while picking up and moving, so I tape them. I appreciate this test, the good thing about the stacks is the edge around the bottom helps lock them in when stacking 4+ high, soft protectors do not stack as well and over time the weight of stacking in soft protectors will show wear causing them to bow slightly, the stacks hold the weight so they don't bow. In all I'm surprised on your results and makes me consider Shumi more, so for that I thank you

    Worst part is when some sellers send them in paper inside the parcel to so call give some what protection an scratches the crap out of the pop funko box. But all depends on the collector if they want their pop in its box or not.

    • @DrApplesauce

      be. funko hey!! My first choice would be Shumi. There is a link in the description of this video. They are .14 cents more per protector, but are a bit better in quality. 7 bucks a pop is where PopShield protectors are sold, and they are my second choice for protectors. As far as buying Pops from 7 bucks a pop, I never have and most likely never will. They basically sell at PPG or full resell value. Shumi is a great site to buy new Pops from, and you can use the code APPLESAUCE and get 10% off.

    thanks for the video and just subscribed. I put all my Star Wars in the Hard Stacks (about 300 pops). I do like the Thinkgeek over the Funko but they don't seem to make them anymore, and you can't find them on Thinkgeek. FYE has hard stacks (clear with no label) as well which I bought a few at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago. I've had lessThinkgeek arrive damaged than the Funkos. My other size pops are in soft protectors. These are good and I hold the tops down with clear circle tape (comes with the order). None have the push lock tab in the tops. I've been buying from RetroProtection for years. Shumi looks good but no other size but 4". Might have to check out PopShield though.

    So I have a bit of a problem.. might I even say a tragedy.. I recently bought 100 .45mm soft pop protectors from 7bucksapop.. I put about 20 of some of my most expensive pops in them.. then I took one out to display it and I noticed the bottom of my pop box was indented and pushed inward.. I checked the other boxes and they all had the same thing some worse then others.. did I do something wrong? Is this unheard of? I want to cry 😢

    • @DrApplesauce
      @DrApplesauce  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, if you didnt pop them open properly and make sure everything was nice and flat, that can happen. The pop should slide in easily and the lid should close without having to force it much, I am sorry to hear that

      Nope, protectors protect the box. I think about 99.9% of collectors aren't, concerned about the insert, as long as it is there, and not completely destroyed.

    Hard stacks are a waste of money. I have a few of them only because they kind of give that "prestige" look in a big case, but protection wise, its not necessary. Also .5 are great, but I still only use .45 with the lock tab even for my most valuable items, they are stacked on my wall 15 pops high and the ones at the bottom support the weight with no problem at all. I find them to be the most worthy "price/quality". Keep your money for more pops. Dont need more protection then the .45mm. Like you, I strongly suggest people to stay away from cheaper soft protectors they are not doing the job. I have them shipped from Hong Kong (from AliExpress) and they cost $555 US for 1000 shipping included ($0,56 each). Not bad at all.

      @@DrApplesauce So put the pop inside of the pop shield and close it normally . Now on the top of the box pinch the protector where the front meets the top (the crease ) (the corners of the protector) you can do this to the top "front" and top "sides" but it doesn't really work on the top "back" where the latch is to keep the protector closed. But you just carefully pinch around the other 3 folds and then boom . The bowing is not there! Works for other protectors but I find it makes the biggest difference with the shields!
