    You need to write a book for Aliner owners covering all of your mods and repairs. Nice vid.

    Hi Slim, Aliner would be well advised to watch your video's and improve there products and send you a nice check. Beautiful area you are in. Be safe and Happy.!

      I'm cynical. Aliner will just write it off to wear and tear. As far as money is concerned, I also think not.

    That really was a brilliant piece of ad hoc engineering for the vent fix. Don’t know if it will work but the sailing channels I follow use butyl tape to seal ports and hatches, for what it’s worth. Some very useful info and seeing your tool boxes was very helpful. Thanks for sharing

  • @l.w.lavelle6317
    @l.w.lavelle6317 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I think you need to seal the window from the outside in..do what you did on the inside. .then remove the outside screws (if there are any) replace the butul tape (that's usually what is used) that seals the window from the outside. .re-assemble and you should be good to go..be sure and clean off any old butul tape from the frame as well as the trailer siding..and to top it off use denatured alcohol to remove any contaminants before you compress it all together..Soon to be on the road..retiring in June....with RV Maintenance Skills..L.W.

    • @SlimPotatohead
      @SlimPotatohead  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great advice, thanks LW. No screws on outside, looks like its bonded and sealed in place. I'm rather limited while boondocking but will do a better patch-up once drydocked. Slim

  • @jerryclower8079

    Ok, I have to say that when you showed the vent and needed a fix I had to stop the video and just sit and think for awhile. I had to think of how I would have done the fix if it were me in that situation. I knew that I'd have to use the aluminum angle that you showed in your tool pile, but never thought of cutting the angle near the bend to keep the slide on the plastic runner. My fix was to slot out the aluminum and attach that piece to the vent cover, then attach the control arm to that with a bolt. Your way is so much cooler (and easier too). keep up the great videos.

    Your videos have great commentary and some of your videos rise to the level of art pieces (the bird video). Keep up the good work. I would love to see a weekly posting schedule. A regular posting schedule is all that stands between you and tremendous success on youtube.com.

      Hi Peggy, I guess I need to make sure what you mean by a weekly posting schedule. Are you looking for a new video every week? Thats almost impossible for me due to the complexities of shooting,editing and travelling. I also seldom have a good signal. I try to get them out as soon as I can. Appreciate the feedback! Slim

    I am so impressed with a man who can think through and FIX things. I dated
    a nice man once and actually had to show him how to change a tire. Was not
    a great experience. A good man needs to know "how to", just like a woman has
    to know how to cook. There are just some things necessary in your repertoire.

    • @efzapp7
      @efzapp7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nancy, isn't it great that you know how to do it. I, too, have a lot of "know how" and I can cook. And I have a great husband with no "know how" and he can't cook but he is learning and appreciates that I can teach him.

    You could still use the broken plastic piece of crap from the vent cover, if it hasn't gone to the recycle bin, and recess a screw or two into the sawn slider parts on both sides so you could eliminate the need for some kind of lube. Of course, you'd have to separate the metal portion a touch, which you know is obvious anyway. Brilliant video!

    Good job! Thinking on your feet is rapidly becoming a lost art! The only thing I can see that may cause problems is the leaking window fix. As it is, you may be getting water inside the wall and not know it! Sealing from the outside, with an all weather clear caulk, might not be a bad move!

    Only two tools are needed. WD40 and duck tape. If it moves but shouldn't, use the tape. If it doesn't move but should, use the oil.

    A pretty cheap plastic welding tool could repair the plastic and make a simple job out of a difficult one... You would need 60 watts to get the welder {similar to a soldering iron}. I recommend you get a Jackery 1000 watt power station to carry with you on your trips. If you're short on cash you could buy a smaller power station, but I personally love the largest 1000 wh one..

    As for the window seal a light candle or match could be a good check of how good or bad the seal is

  • @ekathrynwilms7621
    @ekathrynwilms7621 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The on the road repair is a great idea. The window may need silicon starting at the top and work it into the cracks inside and out to get a tight seal. I have found that with car repairs where the rubber starts to fail and I put in new seals. Sunlight and heart is the biggest cause for plastic failures. When you are not using the camper you may want to cover it with a reflective tarp. Just a thought.

    • @SlimPotatohead
      @SlimPotatohead  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I will definitely be taking the whole window apart once not in use. Just hope the bandaid stays on a little longer! Slim
