    This is the first old electronic repair I've ever attempted...and I succeeded!! Thank you, sir! Now my mom can listen to her old cassette tapes! 😊

    Thank you for sharing the picture with the sequence. I've just opened my WM-FX401 and the step #2 was the secret that I was missing. Now the walkman is in full operation again! Thank you so much!!!

    Loving your videos,mate.Really helpful,the walkmans of this era with no screws are tricky to open if you dont know the way!

    This is really informative, thank you!
    I've had my Walkman (WM-FX195) for about 12 years & since I bought it from a thrift store, never had an operation/repair manual for it.
    The only difference in the model I have is that it has a couple screws on the back holding it together.

      You are welcome! I think yours is from the same generation as the FX455 that I reviewed here and replaced belt on it too: th-cam.com/video/cE8Ni81SOLg/w-d-xo.html Although yours does not have auto reverse.

    Hello, I have one of these, looks and works good, however there’s an odor inside where you insert the tape. Like burnt electronics. What could it be and can I use it like that? I am not good at fixing electronics:(

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess it depends how strong the odor is. They always smell with plastic, and the motor and the circuit board have specific smell too. If it works, does not noticeably wobble, grind or overheat, I would not worry too much.

      @@ConsumerDV thank you, someone told me to look for leaky capacitors and replace them but I can’t even open the back plate so much for replacing stuff.

    Would silicone be ok for the gears?

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Silicone grease is supposed to be safe for plastic, this is all I know. I used it.

      @ConsumerDV that's what I'll use. Some say lithium, but I think that can be bad.

    What is the measurement of the belt when you stretch and fold it? And what is the thickness? cm x mm

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly, I don't remember what the size was. I bought a belt specifically for this model. There are cheaper thicker belts, they are not good enough. The one that worked better was 0.5 or 0.6 mm thick square belt. You can buy a set of a hundred different ones and experiment. I have bought such a set but haven't used these belts.

    What input on the laptop did you connect the Walkman to test wow and flutter?

      Microphone input.

      I use WFGUI by Alex Freed. Works on Windows. Google for it, and you'll find it.

    The 2nd flywheel is used usually in an Auto Reverse mechanism, but on this one it serves as part of the Anti Rolling mech. (lower Wow & Flutter) while on the move.

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  ปีที่แล้ว

      IDK. I think Sony did it to save costs. The next - and the last - generation has metal frame, and non-reverse models have only one flywheel.

    Thanks....It was dismantled slowly and carefully so we could understand what to do....And not some speeded up useless shaky piece of video crap like you sometimes see with dismantling videos !

    I was quite savage opening those walkman. One or two clips out and squeeze the whole plastic body while stretching it and voilá. I don't recommend my kind of opening. Love your video.

      @chrisnelson2057 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could always super glue it back together like I sometimes have to do with remote controls 😆

    where can i get the belt for WM-FX195

      I tried three different resellers, and so far fixyouraudio.com worked best for me.

    Very helpful video, btw do you know the belt dimension for the WM-FX16 ?

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Usually I order the belts from the sellers that offer good quality belts, so I do not buy in bulk, and never measured them. Sorry :( All I can say that many sellers sell belts that are about 0.9 mm thick, while I buy ones that are 0.6 mm thick; thinner belts seem to work better in terms of wow & flutter.

    Why couldn't they put some bloody screws in the damned thing...

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suppose that Sony felt that these walkmans were disposable. It is amazing that 25-30 years later they still work.
