I’m finding it fascinating that so many people are just recently watching Gilmore Girls. It’s an interesting new surge of a show that has some moments that did not age well, but as someone who watched the show obsessively back when it aired, I get the love. Also… Team Jess!

I've never seen it but I watch the podcast Darling Desi and it's on my streaming channel so I plan to watch it very soon.
Lexi!! You really, really, really should read Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. You would love it and it would be a great read for spooky season!! Gothic suspense.
I was surprised to hear she hadn't read it as well. It was so good.

I think I was spoiled the plot twist or the end, is it still worth the read? And how scary would you say it is?
@@apo1270 yes! In my opinion it is still worth the read. It’s a very well-written book, so I enjoyed it just as much rereading it as I did the first time. More spooky vibes IMO and less outright scary.
To be fair, I think when Gilmore Girls references half of these, they're referencing the movie version and not the books. Also, some of these books were not read by Rory, but by others. Like Deenie, which was April's favorite book. Also Team Logan! Logan challenged Rory in ways that she hadn't been challenged before, and forced her out of her comfort zone, which is where true growth happens.
I have read 35 of them. I could probably add 10 more if I ever read the books on my shelf.

Brave New World is incredible because it was written in the 30's but relates exactly how our world/society is today.
I would challenge that this list isn't all the books she's read because many of them are movies (which they've consumed,too).
I've never seen Gilmore Girls, but I took the quiz, like you mandatory reading for school really helped my numbers. I've read 74 of the books, not bad I guess :)
I was shocked when you said you hadn't read Jane Eyre and Rebecca. Those would be great reads for this time of year!

I did horribly on this quiz. Then I realized a lot of these books Rory doesn't actually read. The List has books that were either read by or referenced (title, character, or line) by any character. Jess references To Kill A Mockingbird when talking about the town meetings, but you don't see anyone reading it.
There is more than one reference of that book, including a guy that protest on the church tower, he's called Boo Radley by Lorelai
Yup this is a list of all references by anyone. And could have been movie vs book debate too since they watched a lot more movies then read.

@@FaeryLaume yeah I was tempted to mention in my comment that it is....a super messed up story to say the least. I don't know why they made us read it in MIDDLE SCHOOL. Probably to try to scare kids into being empathetic 🙃

☕️ As I Lay Dying was one of the most morbid and difficult books to understand. I read it in high school and couldn’t stand it. However I did notice you didn’t mark To Kill a Mockingbird and you should read it soon! Frankenstein as well!!
I’ve only read 18 books from this list! Slaughterhouse-Five really is incredible. I have “so it goes” tattooed on my forearm. It’s my favorite quote of all time.

Okay so I’m watching Gilmore girls for the first time ever right now and I’m OBSESSED! I’m in season 3- and after season 1 I discovered this reading challenge and I’m so excited! I don’t know if I see myself reading ALL of the books on the list but id love to get through as many of them as i can!! And I just LOVE your channel so I was really excited to see this pop up here! I’m clocking in at 289 of Rory’s read books! That was way better than I thought, although I admit that I was obsessed with the Gilmore Girl’s when it came out and may have generated my TBR based on a lot of the books I saw, and references they made, so I feel like I cheated 😂. Out of all the ones you haven’t read i feel like the shining and to kill a mocking bird are must read soon books. ☕️☕️

So! To be fair! These are all the books MENTIONED in Gilmore Girls and some of them were just referenced and not necessarily read. I think my number was like 84 a few years ago but I’ve also TRIED to read more specifically from this list. You should for sure read Anna Karenina, it’s a top 5 of all time for me. ☕️
I commented the same thing! And there are a few instances where they are referencing the movie version rather than the book version.
I find it interesting that a lot of the required reading I had in school you hadn’t read! Like lord of the flies, or grapes of wrath, or brave new world. I grew up in California, so everywhere must have different lists. You still checked off more than I would have 😂

Great video! I have not read a lot of the books on the quiz but I want to read much more and then retake it. As for Poptarts when I ate them I like Snickerdoodle and Chocolate flavored but I like to eat them untoasted. ☕️☕️

An idea for a future video is to read banned books. There were quite a few on this list.

☕ I listen to your videos as I drive to work at a school library. Our year 7s just finished Rebecca and loved it. I scored 44 on this quiz. I DNF'd Frankenstein (I think I'm too old for scary books) but I think you'd love 100 years of solitude for it's magic realism so maybe read that first? Stephen King is phenomenal, read dozens as a teen. My English teacher gave me On the Road and I've read Fear and Loathing about 10 times. Great list! PS, they stopped selling unfrosted strawberry pop tarts in my country in the 90s and I still dream about them sometimes ❤

I've never seen Gilmore Girls, but this challenge was still really fun to watch! That was a good (long) list! My favorite pop tarts are chocolate fudge but the brown sugar cinnamon is a good one too! Also loved the 🎃editing when you cursed 😆☕☕
Just for the record, I really think watching Shakespeare is better than reading him. Or, at least, watch the plays a few times and THEN read the scripts. Also Brigadoon is a musical. You really really really should watch it. Gene Kelly. Dang, I had such a crush on him when I was a kid.

Frosted Cherry Poptarts are my personal favorite and I've read a good 70+ books on this list, I need to up my game too. I'm a huge Alice Hoffman fan, I love Nora Roberts books, V.C Andrews, Jane Austin and Cozy Mystery books and anything Chicklit worthy of Hallmark Movies, and I love reading Dark Academia and also Mail Order Bride books lol the last ones just because they crack me up.
I'm currently reading Cackle by Rachel Harrison.

Loved the Gilmore Girls...never heard of the Rory Book Challenge before. Just took the quiz. For sure read 68 but there were probably 10 or 12 more that i think i read but not 100% sure so didn't count. Also....some that I definitely wouldn't ever read 😁. ☕ havent had a pop tart in forever! Pumpkin spice or strawberry (fave cereal - cranberry orange granola)

I started the Gilmore Reading Challenge (Jules Buono-“The Literary Lifestyle” email list) this year, where you have a prompt each month & pick from the master list. Great way to plan in books you wish you’ve read but never otherwise pick up! Thriftbooks has most titles too.
I haven’t read most of these either. What’s interesting is it’s really Amy and Dan Palladino who are this well read to be able to make this many literary references in their show. I feel like the literary references really go down in season 7 when they weren’t writing for the show anymore.

I have read 78 of the books which surprised me. I was thinking about attempting to watch the series again this season. I only got through season 3 last time and then just stopped watching for some reason. Going to give it another shot-and maybe pay more attention to the books she is reading.
House of the spirits is one of my favourite books. You should definitely check it out.

Fave poptart is Smores! I've read 71 on this quiz and own about half of them. Please read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas!! That book had such an effect on me when I read it freshman year in college, I was obsessed!

@@alexandraroselyn😊 I'm from Scotland, a lot of required reading at high school and university was older books but the old English in Chaucer was definitely new to me! 😅
The last time I counted I was at 106, and I'm proud of that. However, I read them bc I like them more than to show off. Usually, one or two people in the comments section have read more, and I say Kudos! to them. What I discovered through BookTube is that while I do score well on this challenge there are many other lists where I struggle to approach 50%. These are the kind of things old people like me love because over 50 years the numbers tend to grow large.
