- Final comparisons and the exciting posedown at the 1989 Mr. Olympia contest in Rimini, Italy. Final placings - 1st Place - Lee Haney, 2nd Place - Lee Labrada, 3rd Place - Vince Taylor, 4th Place - Rich Gaspari, 5th Place - Mohamed Benaziza, 6th Place - Mike Christian.
The Golden Age of Bodybuilding!!! Incredible physiques!
Haney is so densely muscled. Very complete overall. Best champion and ambassador.

Haney was other worldly during his entire reign. I never thought anything could be more unbelievable.
Then Haney showed up peaked to the max in his best ever condition in 1991.. his last Olympia.
Just one of the best shapes & overall packages of all time.

These champs all have so much muscle but they also have class mixed in with their physiques..........bring back these days and change the way competitors are judged.

I think Mike Christian is one guy who never reached his full potential.. I'd rather have Mike's physique than Haney's.. Haney may be able to beat Christian on he stage but if both men were walking down a city street together with jeans and a tank top more eyes would be drawn to Mike Christian with his Height and natural frame structure.. He would look more more imposing than Haney in that type of scene..

I've been working out since 86, and I actually owned the VHS tape of this contest (I have no idea where it's at now LOL). Haney deserved the win: best overall package of mass, condition, balance, structure, and presentation. I agree with Labrada in 2nd and Vince in 3rd. I had Christian in 4th though (best he's ever looked in my opinion, but he always had weaker legs and chest, and a shallow ribcage), and Richie in 7th (too many flaws structurally and the beginning of his pec tear). I had Samir battling Momo for 5th and 6th; Samir looked great that year. Buchanan at first glance is impressive, but his legs were extremely weak. Mike Quinn seemed disappointed with his placing but I actually had him one placing lower in 8th rather than 7th. It was tough for him though, being that he placed 6th the year before.

Such a great tune in bodybuilding. Look at the fan interaction, attendance. These were physiques that ppl wanted to look like …. Athletic, yet still muscular with good size . There was almost an innocence in how ppl saw bodybuilding then. It seems the sport has gone backwards cause of these gurus like Palumbo, milos , Nichols … they turned it onto GH , insulin giant belly’s and big waists . Big was not always better and even the quality of ppl in the sport seemed better , Family ppl it seemed . It’s to bad the freak era destroyed this time .

I was there 4 rows from the front, samir was complete and got completely screwed, haneys legs were weak from the back, but still a great champion.

If haney retired at 30. He's supposed to be about 27 here? Looks like gear had prematurely aged him or he may be lied about his age. But that wouldn't benefit him so fuck knows, definitely has a more mature man's look about him.

Gear can definitely speed up that appearance of aging for some people. They were starting to dabble in growth hormone as well which will add to that too.

Well, with Labrada's wife he went home a winner anyhow.
Even though Lee Haney had dense muscles, I liked Mike's physique better than Haney's. He should've been atleast 2nd, and not Rich. Rich had a stocky body and his gut was more pronounced than everybody in that lineup.

I don't know how Lee Labrada placed 2 because Momo was better than him, Gaspari was better than him, Samir was better than him, only he had contract with Joe Weider...He was about 150 pound when hi hited lat spread my god as he had never trained.
He got many favorable placings that he shouldn’t have.
Labrada is hard to beat because of his great symettry and proportion.
