  • I hired a professional makeup artist for my recent photo shoot for SparkLily. Tara Segar www.tarasegar.com worked with me on the film The Fast And The Furious and after my botched DIY makeup for the premiere, I figure maybe I should seek professional help! We talked the whole darn time so I couldn't really speed up the video, so please enjoy a full on glam makeup shown in REAL TIME. If you have ever wondered what it's like to hang out in the makeup trailer, here it is. But seriously - it's an hour and a half. Grab a glass of wine and some snacks...

    It's so refreshing to see someone so interested in what another person has to say and can teach you. You are so normal and down to earth to have been in the business for so many years. Your sweetness and humility is lovely to watch. I would love to see you in your own reality show. Great job, Tara. It couldn't have been very hard painting on that beautiful canvas.

    Hollywood should add Monique as x-men or D.C. Comics character. A lotta mature guy characters like Dr X etc. but never a beautiful mature woman as a hero in movies! All your videos are such inspiration and great for any age anyway and it gives me hope to not worry about getting older in our age obsessed society! Keep rocking it Monique! 👍🏻👍🏻✨👑

    You both are SO RIGHT ABOUT MAKEUP ARTISTRY! I can't figure out why these people on YT are considered "guru's" or "Makeup artists " when then only know how to apply makeup on themselves! Or they apply it to their "boyfriends" CRAZY. It's all repetitive and there is basically nothing new to learn from them....furthermore, how can I trust their recommendations when it has only been used on themselves???

      The only make-up "gurus" that I watch actually are make-up artists and do it as a living. I actually don't know of any that don't do it as a living. There are some that test make-up products and review them, but they don't consider themselves professionals. But you don't really need to be a professional to review or recommend something.

    • @macdizzie9379
      @macdizzie9379 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I feel like you're being randomly incredibly judgmental about people reviewing things. It's all about personal preference. Personally, I learn a lot from watching people do their makeup. There is no difference in people doing makeup on themselves or other people. It's about the technique. Or in my case, I like seeing how people put new colors together and create new looks with different shades and shimmers to spark my own inspiration.
      Now again personally, when it comes to product reviews I find people watch those with similar features. Like I watch hair product reviews by people with a similar hair type. Or a similar skin type, etc. Unless you want to be a makeup artist what do you gain from watching people that do makeup on lots of people? There's literally no difference between what they do and what people do to themselves. Everybody uses different techniques.

    • @macdizzie9379
      @macdizzie9379 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In no way was I personally attacking you. I'm just saying there's nothing wrong with the people who aren't formally trained doing makeup on themselves.
      I'm really over makeup artists thinking they are better than everybody else. Makeup is a fun art. No matter how good or bad at it, it's a fun endeavor. Why would somebody who just loves doing makeup on themselves have to learn about different skin tones and face shapes?
      You don't have to be a professional to have a passion for something

    As beautiful as Monique looks, and she was having this done for a photo shoot, so she knew this was going to be much heavier than a "normal" makeup look, (plus she is used to photo and film make up) her facial expression hardened a little bit after she got up and looked in the mirror (off camera) the first time....which leads me to think she wasn't happy about it. But I think she looked stunning (as usual!)...and the still shots at the end are amazing!! I love her! I'm 3 months away from turning 52, I just found my first gray hair and seeing her and how sophisticated yet cute she looks, makes me feel that getting gray (or silver) will be OK when it really kicks in!! I LOVE her tutorials and hearing about her everyday life... I live vicariously thru her...so much more down to earth and real life than what's on TV. Thank you for the candor and insight!! I didn't really appreciate the rant about people who wear a lot of makeup. That's pretty judgmental. If makeup is your jam, then you do you. If it's not your jam, that doesn't mean that somebody who loves and enjoys applying and wearing more makeup is less than. Some people actually love wearing makeup and that feels like "themselves" to them. If you don't really enjoy wearing or applying makeup on a daily basis, bravo! You do you...... Just don't criticize those who enjoy it. Poor form.

      I agree that we shouldn't criticize others for wearing makeup or not wearing it. Each to his/her own...that's why we live in the U.S., we're allowed to do our own things. I used to hardly ever wear makeup. Now I'm 61 years old, and I find I feel better and more confident if I have at least some basic makeup on. The whole world seems to be crazy over looking young. I know I won't look 30, but at least I don't have to look like a hag if I don't want to. Makeup is a blessing for those who like to look their best and feel like makeup helps them do that.

    After living in Fiji for two years and not wearing makeup at all (it just melts off and it looks so out of place amongst the locals) I found it hard to move back to a western country and see all the women looking like they wear masks because of being so heavily made up. I find it hard now to wear makeup, but now I look like a hag as everyone is so made up from morning to night. I wish we we didn't create fake faces where we look so different from our natural selves. I used to like makeup but now I feel we are hiding ourselves and creating an appearance standard that is over the top, what used to be nighttime dramatic makeup wear, has become all day wear.

    I chose this video because you weren't some 20-ish young thing talking about her droopy eyelids, and I really wanted to hear what the artist was doing and why. What did I learn? The model's years in the business, her cats, more about the inner workings in the biz. I would LOVE to spend 2 or more hours with you hearing about 'the days' as I have my stories, also. I'm sorry that the overall time of NOT hearing anything regarding makeup a waste of time, but I must be honest and say I did enjoy it. I would love to do your face,
    too.

      diane Kirsch Oh for Pete's sake. I have a question for you all. What do you do when you're at a beauty salon? What do you do getting new nails put on or just a manicure? I'm a stylist. If you sat there totally quiet, I wouldn't want you as a client. You would make me a nervous wreck. You socialize. You socialize people. Your a fly on the wall taking in how it is between a make up artist and an actress. That's not really a hard scenario to grasp. Is it?

    Contouring is drag queen make up? If you have makeup on and don’t contour, you’re face looks flat and with no dimension. What’s the point of even putting it on in the first place? What’s funny is, the makeup artist is actually contouring her face but it just isn’t as heavy as “drag queen” makeup 🙄

      I agree. I'm can hardly stand the heavily made up, over-inflated lips and faces full of fillers & Botox so many of these gurus have on YT. I think they might want to consider the long term affects of all this botulism and junk they needle into the faces they prize above seemingly everything else.

  • @sitavita
    @sitavita 7 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    I don't totally agree with the drag queen makeup bit. The "strong" contouring we see today is taken from drag for sure. Before contouring became all the rage it was being done for photography, and drag of course. My husband, who used to be a professional photographer back in the 80's and 90's told me about contouring several years ago. You couldn't find contouring kits anywhere then. Also, Kevyn Aucoin's book, Making Faces that was published in 1997, goes into a lot of detail about contouring.
    Your makeup looks fantastic, and congrats on the new venture!!

    • @traceyholland9882
      @traceyholland9882 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      sitavita I agree, with you to a certain degree but, I think the drag queens took contouring to a whole different level, but contouring has been around for quite some time. It was used in photography studios in the 80's and 90's, but even before that, it was always used in stage makeup, how do I know, I have acted in a few stage plays, and we didn't call it contouring back then, but that is what it was, the make up was heavy, but it was created so that the audience could see all your facial features, no matter how far they were from the stage. Most of the makeup artists back then were gay men, and there isn't really much difference between stage makeup and drag makeup. I wouldn't be surprised if a gay man created contouring in the first place. Contouring has been going on in stage makeup long before the 80's, I just don't know when they started calling it contouring. If you are over 50 and live on the East coast, and still in the beauty game, we often see young women in natural light, and comment that they look like drag queens. A heavily contoured face looks great on stage, and photos, but it doesn't translate in real life.
