Oh trust me, the first time I drove this, that was definitely some "wow" factor for me. Then, once I encountered that final left curve and saw the skyline right in my face, that was definitely a "holy shit" moment, lol. Hoping to get back to Brisbane in a couple of years.
@@FreewayBrent awesome to hear you say such nice things about our little city! I saw you mention somewhere else that you have footage of the inner city bypass that you can’t find the right music for but I’d love to see that. Some crazy interchanges tying two tunnels and the whole ICB complex together that I saw you describe as unlike anything you’ve seen in most of the US and Sydney or Melbourne. You get some cool views from some of those bridges too. If you want a song, look at a band called “Sheppard” and a song of theirs called “Coming Home.” It’s literally about their home town of Brisbane, and it feels like it’s the sort of upbeat kind of music you like for your videos. It also directly references ‘The Valley’ (Fortitude Valley) which is Brisbane’s nightlife precinct which is one of the areas accessed by the ICB and M7 tunnel. Footage of crossing the Storey Bridge might be worth grabbing if you’re ever back in Brisbane. Not quite a freeway but gives you a cool view of the city and the river as you cross it. Depending on where you start the footage you can go past ‘the Gabba’ one of Brisbane’s 2 biggest stadiums, which is getting a big metro hub built next to it currently, and then depending on when you come the Gabba itself will probably get an upgrade before the 2032 olympics which we apparently are almost certain to get at this point
Good day. So now you're down under. Excellent video and a great ride. That was a fun ride. Always great to see another country that I've never seen before. The music was great also. Thanx for posting this.
Hey there! Haven't seen you around in awhile. Yeah, my last 6 out of 8 videos have featured rides from around Sydney, Melbourne and now Brisbane. Been in a long-distance relationship since late last year, so I've been making frequent trips out there. Glad you enjoyed this; the Aussie's sure know how to design some great freeways. If you want to check out one of my Melbourne rides, here's the West Gate Bridge and West Gate Freeway into the heart of Melbourne. th-cam.com/video/1N06_VPb19g/w-d-xo.html
Thanks! It really does have the look and feel of a California freeway, but set in the tropics. By the way, did you get a chance to watch my Auckland video, driving over the Auckland Harbour Bridge and towards the CBD? Neat stuff there too, if you want to watch. Cheers, mate!
FreewayBrent Sure I watched it, was really excited when I saw it pop up in the subscriptions tab 😄 yeah particularly the Central Motorway Junction is awesome 👌 well every video of yours has something special and interesting in it, e.g. the West Gate Fwy in Melbourne, Sea Cliff Bridge in NSW, Harbour Bridge and the Western Distributor in Sydney, and the US-101 in the Silicon Valley to name a few 😄👍 btw do you have any plans to drive in Perth someday? Got some pretty interesting fwys too 👍
If popular racing franchises can (PLEASE) get on board with this, they should make a freeway for their imaginary city map (Bayview, Paradise City, Rockport, Liberty City/Los Santos, New Bordeaux, etc) exactly designed like that section of road just for the folks who can't/will never make it out there!
Great work on this one Brent! Looking forward to more vids from down under. These Australian cities look so much bigger than they did when I read about them in school back in the day.
Very good video. Those are some neat interchange designs towards the end, it looks like they must have had difficulty cramming all those exits into the land by the waterfront there.
I think I still like Melbourne better overall...but my first visit to Brisbane last month was not just a pleasant surprise of sorts...I came away with the honest opinion of it being one of the most underrated major cities to be found anywhere. Even better is the fact that my g/f, who grew up in Sydney, ended up loving the place too...there still seems to be this really outdated stereotype of Brisbane being some overgrown country town without much going on, but that's so far from the truth, if that was ever a truthful opinion. The foodie and coffee scene is fantastic, there's public art everywhere you go, pretty good nightlife, all sorts of neat events and festivals, and a multitude of walkable districts with their own unique character. And...you can't beat the Eat Street Markets for excellent street food. As for the driving...this may be one of the most interesting freeways I've ever driven. Reminds me a bit of the driving experience heading into Pittsburgh. Also loved the ride from Gold Coast, up towards the Metroad 6 interchange was an awesome 8-10 lanes of modern engineering. All in all, it was a great time in Australia's 3rd largest city. Hope to visit again soon!
It's freakin' epic. One of the most enjoyable driving experiences of my life. Looking forward to working on my other Queensland stuff...really enjoyed the Pacific Motorway from Gold Coast, all the way up into Brisbane. All in all, I recorded enough footage to put together 5 or 6 videos from around South East Queensland.
Hey, thanks! You might like my featured video, showcasing the freeways, bridges and tunnels feeding into and out of Sydney's CBD. Thanks for dropping by and commenting.
Wow! Brisbane CBD has changed quite a lot for the past 10 years. I remember passing along the Pacific Motorway for the first time (unintentionally) as we were supposed to go for Queensland Museum...
Heck...this doesn't just qualify as one of my favourite drives in Queensland, but anywhere for that matter. Sooooo much to see in just a few kilometres...all of those bridges you pass underneath along the Riverfront Expressway portion of the Pacific Motorway. It was truly an epic experience. All in all, I recorded enough footage for 6 or 7 videos from around Southeast Queensland. Thanks for watching as always, dude!
Just re-watching, I'm sure this was the very first video of this type that I saw many months back. I even have a couple on my channel now! Keep up the great work ;)
I can see Brisbane and Sydney are affected by g20. How can go thru about the day around here? Why am I asking? Toronto and MOntreal in Canada are also affected this much by the g20-summit.
Thanks! Sorry for the late response; been awfully slammed with work for the past few weeks. Catching up on comments now. As for the city itself, there's more energy overall in Toronto, but Brisbane has a lot of subtle charms and the hilly terrain really caught me by surprise. Some of the best restaurants I've ever experienced call Brisbane home. Wonderful city for food, drink, recreation and culture.
Sorry it took so long for me to respond; it's been a busy time for me! Thanks a ton for watching. I still need to work on a few more videos from around Brisbane, including a comprehensive central Brisbane freeway tour video. Next video (to be released) will be my 2nd from Auckland, New Zealand. Feel free to check out the first Auckland video (also my featured video on my home page) when you have a chance. Cheers!
Oh yeah, did you get a chance to check out my other Brisbane video, showcasing the Gateway Bridge & Motorway. If not, here's the link. th-cam.com/video/ds2KyLB9Jz8/w-d-xo.html
Yeah, off-peak vs. peak hour traffic is a complete contrast along the Pacific Motorway, that's for sure! I've got another video from Brisbane, if you want to check it out. The Gateway Bridge & Motorway. Thanks for watching, mate! th-cam.com/video/ds2KyLB9Jz8/w-d-xo.html
The Riverfront Expressway is VERY similar to the Island Eastern Corridor in Hong Kong. Same speed limit. No shoulder on either side. Viaduct over water. Short merging points. Relatively tight curves. I would assume that the same engineering firm designed these structures.
There's actually a MUTCD (Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices) that the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads releases every few years with updates. Some of the signage is created by layering existing images, but there's also a lot of customization and sign editing that I do from scratch. Trying to give the viewers a realistic overview of the driving experience; it's fun to work on the videos.
Thanks for watching! I have enough footage for 3 more videos in the Brisbane area. Coming up in 2017 will be the Gateway Bridge (in both directions), more coverage of the Pacific Motorway, and a central Brisbane freeway tour that incorporates the freeways (and tunnels) feeding into and out of Brisbane's CBD.
It's such a fun ride...a bit pleasantly surprised by the overall driving experience around Brisbane and the Gold Coast conurbation. Thanks again for watching!
Thank you! I still have a lot of footage on Brisbane I just haven't had the time to work on. :-( Hopefully in the coming months, I can get another Brisbane video out.
Love the video bro! Love Brisbane, one of the best Cycling cities I've been to as well. Also, taking a boat along the river is a must for some of the best Skyscraper views in the country. Love this city. On the outskirts of Brisbane, there is a motorway that bypasses the city, with the Gateway Bridge, which is 12 lanes, which must be one of the widest stretches of freeway in Australia. Also I just realised, in Queensland, they call them Motorways, and in Victoria it's Freeways. Anyone else notice that? It's odd, shows the strange combo of british and US influence. But Queensland is a little bit weird...
It really is a great experience, driving into the city. My g/f didn't get a chance to do one of the boat tours along the Brisbane River...hopefully next time. As for the Gateway Bridge...I have footage of that as well. I plan on working on that footage towards the end of the year!
We only have like one freeway, and that is the Western Freeway (M5), which continues from the Centenary Highway/Motorway until it ends at the Legacy Way Tunnel.
Got me thinking now, in NSW and QLD, does Freeway and Motorway have different definitions? I think in Victoria, we call them all Freeways, even though they're designated M1, or my local M8, also called the Western Freeway, because it heads west out of Melbourne towards Adelaide.
In Australia 'motorways' is the generic term for freeways and tollways for road authorities. In Victoria they clearly differentiate the two while New South Wales and Queensland not so much so just use the 'motorway' term. No toll roads in Perth so 'freeway' is used in Western Australia with some semi-freeway 'highways' also.
Thank you! Have you had a chance to check out my Sydney Harbour Bridge or West Gate Bridge/Freeway videos yet? Just a couple of several more Aussie driving videos I've uploaded in the past year. Feel free to check 'em out when you have some time!
Thanks!! I also released a Pacific Motorway video that starts about 80 kilometres south, back down in Gold Coast. Feel free to check it out, if you haven't had a chance already.
Thank you! I have a lot more Aussie footage to showcase. As for the song, I discovered it on my Air New Zealand flight, back to San Francisco. Maya Payne is an up-and-coming artist, based out of New Zealand...would have never known of her, if not for my flight.
Oh wow, that is random as heck! I actually sent the video to her when I released it in the beginning of the month; she seemed really nice, based on our back-and-forth responses.
Thanks! That whole part of Queensland is full of interesting freeways and other drives. As for driving on the other side of the road, didn't take any adjustment...probably helps that all the lane markings and signage are pretty much identical or very similar to US standards.
A few are templates, but the rest I created from scratch utilizing MS Powerpoint, MS Paint and Paint.net software. I utilize Adobe software for the video editing. Hope you enjoyed watching!
Nah. I'm still based out of San Francisco. Just happen to love Aussie and Kiwi road infrastructure, which is why both countries have been my focus for the past couple of years. Just released a 2nd video from Auckland (the Waterview Tunnel & Connection), if you want to check it out. Cheers!
my home in brisbane had palms. Worst trees!! Constantly having to remove dead palm prongs and, so annoying. Can imagine that's why they aren't as prevalent. Maintenance and avoiding having them fall on people
Amazing video. You have to reshoot this for 2032 Brisbane Olympics. The city will be transformed by that time.
That view from the hill near Tarragindi is so good. Being a local I’ve always wondered if that created a “wow” moment for out-of-Towners

Definitely dig that tight riverside freeway right inside the core like that with the sweeping flyovers, dense downtown & the whole nine yards...

The Riverside Expressway is part on the river bank, part in the river. It was designed and built in the 1970's.
