    Took my brand-new OF1010 out on it's first site job today. Was horrified to find that it was fitted with an 8mm collet, as I gazed despairingly down at my pile of 1/4" cutters. Wondered if there had been a mistake on final assembly and dispatch? All the info I'd received stated that the UK version shipped with a quarter-inch. So in desperation, I watched your video on my phone. "It comes with two collets" you said. So I shook the now-empty Systainer and heard something collet-sized rattling around under the insert. You, sir, are a lifesaver.......

    Hi Peter, as always a well constructed and informative video. Have been thinking of getting the 1010 to compliment the 2200. Have been put off by the handle configuration, but guess it comes as second nature once you have used it a few times. This " Green Slope" sure is slippery !!!! Mark.

      @NewBritWorkshop 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Norfolkswain Hi Mark, Ages ago I had the same worries about the handle but once you have tried it a few times it just seems so natural. I think the reason is that the router is quite light and the handle arrangement makes it easier to pick up and put down one handed. You are right it is addictive! Peter

    Hi Peter. Great video as always. Perhaps just a tip when setting the depth of cut. Do not lift it by the plastic attachment. It is only a (poor) friction fit. I've used a 1010 for many years and soon realized that the scale can slip and this will obviously lead to wrong depth. Rather lift by the steel rod on which the plastic guide is attached. Incidentally, I followed your advice and got the 704R and a quarter inch dovetail bit for the 1010 which I can now use in addition to my half inch router and having two set up saves a lot of time. Thanks again. Jac

    One thing I still don’t understand is how to set the depth of cut when using a bearing guided cutter, something like the round over you used in this video. Could you explain please?

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Charlie, A bearing guided cutter will run its bearing along the side of your wood. The depth of cut will be determined by the application and the shape of the particular cutter. For example, a bearing guided chamfer cutter will trim a 45 degree slice off your wood. By adjusting the depth you will get a large or smaller 45 degree cut face. Just pick up a bearing guided cutter in your hand and imagine what it will do at difference cut depths. Peter

    Hello peter this may seem as a silly question, I have the OF 1010 router for lite router work, but I have trouble with the router bits scotching the wood. Is this down to poor quality router bits ? Or is the routers speed?

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Terry De'ath Hi Terry, Scorching can occur with speeds that are wrong but it is more likely to be poor quality cutters, cutters which need sharpening or trying to take too much out at a time. For 8 mm bits (which I recommend you use) I have found the Festool ones to be the best. Peter

    Hello
    Again Peter
    I'm sure this is a silly question but would you highly recommend the MFT? I'm a portable carpenter so I'm concerned about the weight of it.
    Regards

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +James Petts Hi James, This is a tricky one because the MFT3 has risen in price by quite a lot since I bought mine but I will give a balanced view which should help. The MFT3 is an excellent portable work bench as it is far more than just a surface on which to work. The arrangement of holes allow you to do a lot of jig work and clamping which is hard to achieve on a flat sheet of MDF. You can go the whole hog and get all the extras that then give you a quite reasonable track saw cutting station. The bare MFT3 with a set of large and small Parf Dogs gives you a very accurate track saw cutting station. I have the MFT3, paid the going rate for it 4 years ago and do not regret my decision. Alternatively you can create a mobile track saw cutting station by having a pair of folding trestles and a sheet of MDF with some accurately placed holes for the Parf Dogs. I have one set up like this in my workshop and I cut all of my sheet goods on it. I can cut a full 8x4 with measured scribe marks for the track placement and use the Parf Dogs once the width gets down below 1m (any length can be cut). Both the MFT3 and my trestle based cutting station are equally portable but the MFT3 has a little bit more usefulness for jig work. Please let me know what you think. Peter

    Good Morning Peter, having watched this I’ve now purchased a OF 1010 router. It would appear that in order to accomplish many of the router tasks one also requires a router table. As you note, Festool no longer make these - on that basis is there any table you’d recommend ( preferably lightweight / portable). Also, I need to buy some precision measuring tools - I’m considering some of the Benchdogs products - are there any other brands you think produce high quality products. Keep up the great work sir. Nice review as usual from peter but I have to be honest, the tool comes across as grossly over engineered with dozens of fiddly attachments that would drive the average site based carpenter insane. It's all getting a little silly with the accessorising trend!

      Byoomholay I tried to show a range of accessories to suit every type of user. On site the side fence and maybe a guide bush will probably be enough but some workshop based people will want dovetails and so on. The kitchen fitter will want the edging setup. Peter
